Good valid point about mould build up under mattress. I lived in a van for 12 year and made this comment about letting mattress breath and got ridiculed for it. This was on a off grid camper forum. Some people don't take advise and choose to learn the hard way. Nice van interior your doing there

I must admit I would have put the support timbers with the longest dimension vertical purely for strength. The secret with preventing mould under a mattress is to use a waterproof cover on top of it, modern waterproof mattress protectors are just unnoticable. I have one in my camper which has a solid wooden base, no problem with mould at all. My mattress is only 100mm thick but I like a firm bed.

Hi Mel, I see you your going east west with your bed for sleeping and have made cutouts so you can fit in the 6 ft wide sprinter outer wall shell. One problem I see, which I'm faced with also as I'm doing the same thing, is the lack of insulation at your head, compared to the rests of the vans walls, which is where your head is going and seeing as you have ears attached to that head, would you hear the sounds outside as you only have, what, 10mm insulation there? Also the thermal insulating properties would be minimal at these points which may result in a cold head and feet and a warm body in winter? Can you shed some light here please as these are the issues I'm contemplating.
@BigVanSmallWorld
4 жыл бұрын
Hi good question and I understand your concerns about sounds and cold so many people over think this. From experience if you have regular windows in your van you will never stop the sound from coming though I see so many van builders wasting money on sound proofing and then fit massive windows totally wasted there time as the single pain glass let’s sound travel that I do have experienced of as for the insulation this is the first time I have done this and I have yet to sleep in this van the most important thing about insulation is vapour barrier I’m more worried about condensation than anything else I have silver taped it all round the edges I’m hoping this will work now again from experience if you have a diesel night heater running on it’s lowest setting you still end up opening a window you’re never be cold if you have one fitted there brilliant 👍🤓👍
