I actually watched your sermon on this the other day and in view of that was reading GK Beales Revelation commentary on that passage this morning. Its been a while since I've opened that book and it's always a great help.

Thank you for your video Matthew. There are 8 things that I know of that all testify one to another the Postmillennial view of Nero being the beast. Further explanation of this below will be explained further on in my comment. 1. 666 is Nero Caesar. 2. 616 is Nero Caesar. 3. The 6th current king at the time of it being written is Nero Caesar. 4. The seven heads that are seven mountains which is Rome. 5. The man of lawlessness is Nero Caesar. 6. Babylon is Rome. 7. The 8th king is Rome. 8. The 10 kings are not Roman kings but are outlying powers that turned against Rome and sacked it over and over again. I recommend listening to Greg L. Bahnsen’s 63 part series going verse by verse through the book of Revelation. Which is available on sermon audio. When you used the online gematria calculator to get six hundred and sixty six, did you use the same name to get six hundred and sixteen? Why is this important? Because whatever names people suggest they must equal both numbers. Moreover, did you take into consideration the counting of the line of Caesar’s? Counting from the first Roman Caesar-Julius Caesar who took to himself the title “Imperator” which means Emperor, he called himself the Emperor of Rome. And Julius Caesar was reckoned by many Roman and Jewish writers as the first Emperor of Rome. Nero Caesar is the 6th Caesar to rule thus satisfying Revelation 17:10. Nero was also the last physical bloodline of Caesars. The next reigning Caesar Galba only reigned for a short period of time (June 68AD to January 69AD) as per Revelation 17:10. 1) Julius Caesar (49-44BC). 2) Augustus (31BC-14AD). 3) Tiberius (14-37AD). 4) Gaius, also known as Caligula (37-41AD). 5) Claudius (41-54AD). 6) Nero, the last bloodline of Caesars (54-68AD). 7) Galba (68-69AD). 8) Otho (69AD). 9) Vitellius (69AD). 10) Vespasian (69-79AD). And did you take into consideration the seven heads as being seven mountains? Revelation 17:9 the seven heads are seven mountains. Rome was known as the Septimontium-the seven hilled city. The hills are called; Palatine, Aventine, Caelian, Esquiline, Viminal, Quirinal, and Capitoline. Moreover, have you taken into consideration 2 Thessalonians 2 man of lawlessness as being Nero Caesar? 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 - The man of lawlessness is currently being restrained in order to be revealed in his time. - The man of lawlessness is alive at the moment this is being said to them. - 2 Thessalonians was written around A.D. 50-52. - Nero was born December 15, A.D. 37 - Nero at age 12 was adopted by emperor Claudius Caesar on February 25, A.D. 50. - Nero at age 13 was officially declared as an adult March 5, A.D. 51. - Nero at age 17 became emperor on October 13, A.D. 54. - This all lines up with the man of lawlessness being alive and even officially and legally being declared a man at the time of 2 Thessalonians being written. - As it is written, it is true that the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. - He who is the one that is restraining the man of lawlessness will do so until he is out of the way. The current emperor Claudius Caesar is the “he” who is restraining Nero from becoming emperor by being alive and does so “until he is out of the way” by being murdered by poison by Neros mother Agrippina. Also note that the name Claudius is based on the Latin word Claudere which means to restrain and/or to close. Thus the restraining of this man of lawlessness from becoming the 6th king (Revelation 17:10). - And it’s after these things that the lawless one will be revealed, who Jesus will then kill. Moreover did you take into consideration that Rome is Babylon? When looking at Revelation 14:8 John doesn’t bother to explain who Babylon the great is, he just expects his readers to understand-why? Because he knew his readers know the Old Testament. His readers knew that Babylon was the symbol the arch enemy of the people of God. And who is the arch enemy of God’s people in John’s own day? It is Rome. John does not want his letter to be intercepted and Christians to suffer further because of an explicit identification of God’s enemy, he says rather; Babylon the great. You could almost see John winking, saying you know who I am talking about right. Read along with 1 Peter 5:13 where Peter writes a letter while he is in Rome. Peter’s letter says the Church that is here salutes you, and identifies the Church being in Babylon-in Rome. Peter is directly calling Rome by the name Babylon-the traditional enemy of God’s people. The second angel says “fallen, fallen is Babylon the great”. This language comes from Daniel 4:30. Is Babylon great in the eyes of God? No, Babylon is only great in the eyes of man. King Nebuchadnezzar is saying, isn’t this a wonderful place, look at what I have made, it is just super-Babylon the great-self importance. John is saying Rome thinks that it is important too, but, what does God say? God says what Isiah says-Isaiah 21:9 “fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods are broken unto the ground”. John is quoting verbatim the prophecy of Isaiah against the Babylon of Rome, saying; fallen, fallen is Babylon the great. John combines the words of Isaiah and Daniel. John knows his Old Testament very well and now also combines a description of Babylon the great when he says Babylon the great “that hath made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication”, look at Jeremiah 51:7. John is combining words from Isaiah and Daniel and Jeremiah to bring the full weight of God’s judgmental wrath against Rome. John is saying that those who drink the wine of her fornication will also simultaneously drink the wine fo God’s wrath-Revelation 14:8; Revelation 14:10; Revelation 17:2. Moreover, Revelation 17:11 shows the beast is in fact the Empire, that the beast is himself an eighth, and is of the seven. That is, the beast continues to rule after the seven fall, and he continues with the character of the seven, because, he is of the seven. Continuing with Revelation 17:12-16 we see that the ten horns that are ten kings are not Roman kings, because, the ten kings (ten horns) and the beast will turn onto the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her utterly with fire. These ten kings are not the same kings of the earth who mourn over the fall of Babylon in Revelation 18:9-10. So what we are being told is that in a short while a group of ten kings are going to collaborate with the power of the Empire against the city of Rome itself, which is precisely what history teaches us that the outlying powers of the Empire turned against the city and sacked it over and over again.

It adds up to "A Thinking head" that translates to "Caputsapiens" on X...😂

Biblical prophecy can have multiple fulfillment.

I’m currently a Gematria Guy…oh, that would make an interesting t-shirt. Anyway…I like the symbolic interpretation too. I don’t immediately see why I couldn’t agree with both, but maybe more study…yes, I’ll do that. Wait…a Gematria Girl shirt for the postmil ladies. Paul spoke of the rapture, so there's a hint the apostles knew Revelation. If the apostles knew of the Revelation John wrote, that would indicate John wrote Revelation pre-70ad

Yes in 2Co 12 2Co 12:2-5 NHEB 2 I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I do not know, or whether out of the body, I do not know; God knows), such a one was caught up into the third heaven. 3 I know such a man (whether in the body, or apart from the body, I do not know; God knows), 4 how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a human to utter. 5 On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in my weaknesses.

As a former Idealist become preterist, I do find the Nero argument pretty convincing though I acknowledge that the theory is not perfect and has its criticism. Thank you Matt for the awesome presentation. I do like to highlight that the Preterist interpretation does not hinge on who the number represents, but as presented here does have some weight to it as any argument (even the symbolic approach) does. Symbolic arguments are easier to reason with and make for good applicable sermons, but also lack in meaningful fulfillment of these prophecies which were to actually “take place” (Rev. 1:1) in time (Rev. 1:1, 3; 22:10, 20) in the world and not just be parabolic or indicative of spiritual realities. In other words, if it is true that Revelation has already been fulfilled, it doesn’t negate our ability to apply all of it’s teaching, but to insist that it has ongoing in time and taking place fulfillment spiritually I believe is to miss out on the redemptive historical significance of the book itself. Either way, great presentation and far representation of the math involved. Love you brother.

It's in the nature of gematria that there would be multiple ways of getting to a given numeric result, so anyone who would say that 666 could *only* be Nero would, frankly, not know what they were talking about; there would be near-infinite other ways to reach the same number. But: (1) John was writing to a specific first-century audience*, (2) "the number of a man" strongly indicates that the number in some way denotes a particular man, and (3) it's clear from the context that he expected at least some of his audience--his first-century readers--to figure out who he was talking about. And surely referring to the then-reigning Caesar would be a reason to obfuscate his identity, wouldn't it? Particularly given that Caesar was regarded as a god? Think what would have happened if you, in medieval Europe, made public statements identifying the pope as the Beast--you would likely have been executed. Such a statement of Caesar would be no less blasphemous. So, while there are likely thousands of names that could add up to 666, limiting the field to someone who would have been known to John's first-century readers, and who would give reason to obfuscate his name, narrows the possibilities a lot. I don't think that means it has to be Nero, but that in combination with the rest of what you shared here seems to make it pretty likely. * I don't remember who I first heard use this phrasing, but "all scripture is *for* us, but not all scripture is *to* us." That's important in understanding many passages, Revelation 13 perhaps foremost among them.

How do we know this calculator is accurate ? - I wonder if it's something like 666 is the number of the spirit of evil... which can come in various forms, Nero Cesaer was one iteration of the evil and there are various different iterations of the same evil throughout history.

To me, it is remarkable that 666 equals the sum of the numbers 1 through 36, and 36 is 6 squared. This strongly suggests that this pertains to the meaning of the number 6. When I think of 6, I think of the 7 days of creation without the sabbath. By adding consecutive numbers, starting with 1, you can find other 3 digit numbers that are included in the New Testament.

It might not be gematria. It might be math: Essential the number of the beast is an unrounded three digit representation of two out of three times a hundred or ten times ten, two-thirds always yielding the endless repetition of sixes. The best evidence for this theory comes from the principle of first mention, but in this case, we actually have several mentions of the infamous number and one conflicting reference, the sons of Adonikam are numbered 667 in one place. This seems to be a clue. Solomon's talents of silver, another clue, silver being less precious than gold, Solomon being the third great king, and the wisest of all, but not wise enough to avoid taking a huge number of pagan concubines! Someone wiser than me needs to figure out the meaning. Two thirds of what?

Note that Irenaeus authenticated the number 666 with a biblical calculation found in V.XXX.2. Philo of Alexandria used nearly the same calculation for 666 before the book of Revelation was written (Questions and Answers on Genesis II (17).

God must have copied Irenaeus then. Because John didn't author the idea of 666. John was merely writing down what he saw and heard. So I think it is very unlikely.

Gematria is pronounced with a hard G sound.

In verse 16 the right hand signifies power. Jesus is at the right hand of the father. Maybe that the mark means something like that. Those who don’t worship Jesus will be at the right hand of the beast. My interpretation any thoughts about that? That can be on of the clues🙏✝️

It refers back to Deuteronomy 6:8 and the shema. This is simply saying all who claim allegiance to the beast over allegiance to God. Remember Rev also says the saints would have “a mark” as well. But no one says that’ll be a different chip lol

I love the shirt and appreciate you, a PCA minister, wearing it. I too often associate (justifiably or unjustifiably) the PCA with too many sensible muted-colored cardigan wearing soft-handed guys that would find that shirt outside the bounds of what a nuanced-minded winsome PCA minister should be wearing.

666 ("600-60-6") in Greek is read backwards and is read as "in the name of Allah"

Doesn’t Revelation 13:18 argue against the 666/777 idea? 666 is there described as the number of a man.

The number of “the wild beast” is 666 and it symbolizes the worldwide political system. So the name 666 powerfully emphasizes that God views human political systems as gross failures. They have been unable to bring lasting peace and security-things that only God’s Kingdom will achieve.

666 is stated directly and clearly three times in the Bible - Once in Kings, once in Chronicles and once in Revelation. In Kings and Chronicles, both times it was clearly linked to King Solomon. While Solomon lead Israel to its all-time apex, he also planted the seeds of Israel’s destruction. In Kings and Chronicles, Solomon’s annual income was calculated to be 666 talents of gold. No weird codes - 666 is right there in the Bible. The Beast will be like Solomon. Profoundly wise, profoundly wealthy, profoundly powerful.

God is Love (or Charity) and God is Master. 1 John 4:8 “He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.” Matthew 23:10 "Neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, Christ.” The Antichrist will call himself love and master. The word Maitreya literally means love. It can also mean master or teacher. In Hebrew, (Hebrew is written and read from right to left) Maitreya is written as Mem = 40, yod = 10, tau = 400, resh = 200, he = 5, yod = 10, aleph = 1, whose sum equals 666. There is a person by the name of Maitreya and this is the Antichrist although he may change his name once he comes to power. The mark of the beast will be a microchip placed in the hand of a person allowing the Antichrist and his agents to control the people. At the time directed by the agents of the Antichrist, they will summon the people who took the Mark of the Beast and force them to worship the Antichrist at services. By passing a light beam among those with the chip, it will excite the chip, and bring these people under a hypnotic state. These people will be drawn to worship the Antichrist as often as the agents desire. The people will follow the agent’s wishes to perform whatever they want.

The presupposition that John wrote this book is why this doesn't 100% make sense. IF you were to look for the real author you might find the entire book makes PERFECT sense. Cerinthus, an enemy of the truth by John's account, a believer in Jewish Mysticsm, and one who spent some time in Egypt would be a more appropriate author. There is HEAVY evidence for him being the correct write of this book.

The actual number is *616.*
