6610 Ford Tractor Baling Hay With a 328 John Deere Square Baler

Helping my son-n-law Justin get some hay up. I'm using his Ford 6610 to bale with the John Deere 328 while he loads with the accumagrapple

I like it to. They are good tractors. We've ran a 3000, 4000, and two 5000s in the past. Got great service out of them. My son-n-law was lucky to find this one in great shape and a great price. Thanks so much for being here!!

The Ford looks like a really nice tractor. The JD is really pounding out some nice bricks! One thing we added to our JD baler which is nice is hydraulic bale tension. Makes for a consistent density bale throughout the day. The hydraulics are self contained to the baler - no remotes required. Even though we use a pan kicker, they are not as popular today with grapples and accumulators, but they are still a very effective way to pickup bales on the fly, but you can sometimes find used one pretty cheap - yet in very good shape. Best of luck!

I've been curious about the hydraulic tension system. The one thing I'm struggling with is keeping the bales a consistent tension, shape and length. I know the strokes per minute are less on the 328 that on the 348 and I'm wondering if I'm pushing the baler a little and getting too much hay in the throat at a time. It seems the thicker the hay the longer the bales. Any thoughts? Thanks for watching!!

@@stinsonfarms6724 First thing is to run the baler full out at 540 PTO rpm. Everything is better at that speed and you get the full effect of the flywheel on the plunger stroke. Deere recommends 3 inch flakes max. The 328 is a 80 stroke per minute baler and the 348 is 93, so while some difference, not a great deal. The last flake of hay determines the bale size when it trips the knotters, so if you are pounding out 5 or 6 inch flakes, the bale can vary by that much, so smaller flakes make a more consistent bale. I like to set my tension so it’s almost hard to get fingers with a leather glove under the strings. We use 9600/210 plastic twine with zero breakage, I’d think 9600/170 would be good for you. I would not run 130 twine. The old New Holland balers like your 311 liked to be fed on the plunger side of the bale chamber. Hay bunches up there and it would fill the bale chamber when the fingers pushes the hay into it. The John Deere is opposite. Feed it from the far side of the bale chamber and let the auger move it over to the plunger. If you notice, the auger rolls the hay up at the bale chamber, sometimes falling over in front of it. I believe this vertical height charge of hay makes for a full charge of hay pulled in by the packer fork and a more even flake of hay. You’re in a learning curve, so keep with it. That 328 is an excellent baler with many diaries back in the day making 20,000 squares year in/out. Good luck and ask any questions and I’ll tell you what I think I know...👍

@@HumbleHaymakers thanks! That make since. I've been running it like I've always ran a baler but with not the exact result. I'll try that and play with it a little. Thanks again.

Nice little Ford tractor. We will be praying for you. I was in the er Monday night 2 weeks ago. I got over heated and was severely dehydrated even though I had drunk over 100oz of liquid. They thought my kidneys shout down. It was medication and now they are trying to figure out why I am sweating real bad. Kidneys are fine now just trying different medication. Food for thought.

Thanks ! I think he got himself a real nice tractor. Thanks for the prayers! I'm better now. The medication I was taking for the tick bite caused me to burn real bad in the sun. It was more like an actual burn than a sun burn. I'll know to read the prescription label next time. Hope you get to feeling better soon and the new medication works. We're not as young as we used to be! Lol
