'66 Buick Back From The Dead! - HOT ROD Unlimited Episode 5
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On this episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, we raise a '66 Buick from the dead. After spending 33 years sitting outside in the desert, the broken down Buick Special is revived by David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of HOT ROD and Rick Pewe of 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine.
Rick's mother bought the car when it was near new and parked it when the transmission failed in 1978. In 2011, the guys spent two and a half days wrenching on the car, with the hopes of driving it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. Come along for the ride and see what happens!

Some little boys from Haggard starting saying it too. But man..they are the worst mechanics
this is how road kill all began its still timeless video adventure, they should make vacation package like this
Its crazy how wheels and a drop could make a car look that good
"Dude,that doesn't taste right"
Great show guys! I love all the classics, I have always been a big Buick fan but also love all of the other classics. Road kill rocks! HATS OFF TO YOU both, DAVE AND MIKE, You guys have a great chemistry that makes this show Great and unique!
One of my favorite cars I've ever owned was my '66 LeSabre. 340, ST400... It was given to me by my shop teacher's aunt when I was in high school. In two days we had a rebuilt 340 dropped in, cleaned up the trans, all the brakes done, new fluids.. I drove that car for almost a year before someone wrecked into it last winter. The Buick 300/340 is a really underappriciated motor! I got 23mpg highway, and put maybe 35-40,000 miles on it in the 8 months or so it was on the road. Man, I miss that car.
"like a glove" as he tosses sheet metal signs over the floor boards...... AHHAHA
So many Roadkill firsts: "Mint!" "Implement of bashing," "Well orchestrated machine," "Look at the action on that!" "It's 10pm and we're going to pack it in for the night..." *Brake Check* and... most importantly... "YES!!!"
Thanks! We love making them.
When Freiburger and Pewe are together, they absolutely feed off of each other. "mint" "MINT" "Flawless" "flawless"
My hats off to all of the unseen people that make the road kill show happen too....TY everyone.....I soooo enjoy your shows!
Man I love this car. My mother had a '68 Buick, so looking at this thing just brings me back.
THE BEST SHOW ON MOTOR TREND
I had a blue 1967 Buick Special, hard top. But still this brinks back memories! We called it the Bu-Dog
Love the floorboards, it’s fantastic
This HAS to be where Roadkill came from

I know this post is old but this is where roadkill came from
I enjoyed the video as much as reading the article awhile back. Thanks.
Man, I thought Rick was kinda welling up after the maiden voyage. Sweet ride, guys!
A couple thoughts. You should have known that the wheel cylinders would fail when they bled themselves, the seals let the air trapped past so it was just a matter of time. I like to use a remote oil filter kit in the gas line instead of numerous smaller filters. They trap more crap before plugging and time to change it spin one off spin he new one on. I use a paint strainer on a funnel to reclaim the gas in the filter after changing.
I used to have a '68 Buick Special Deluxe. It was a 4 door sedan and had a roof, but it was the same color and I loved that old car, lol.
If this was a vacation package adventure I would pay for it!
GREAT piece. Loved it. Look forward to updates on this car. Awesome.
I subscribe to 4wheel & Offroad and love it when Pewe digs up some ancient jeep from his backyard and goes wheeling. Great job on these episodes guys.
For the engine to still work after all those years is just amazing.
10:10 Then it happened...ROADKILL!
Amazing what these guys can accomplish in that amount of time.
Can't believe they didn't change the Wheel Clyinders and hoses to start with they already had the parts. No way i would have driven out the driveway without changing them.Love the show.
man i love this series its great keep them coming
literaly just brought back to life a 1966 buick skylark with the 300 buick here in hawaii...
This should've been the first episode of roadkill.

good job
These videos are amazing guys. This is SO much better than Top Gear U.S. that they should honestly be ashamed, they're nowhere near same level as this, this is quality. This is what automotive shows SHOULD be. Not dainty pretty boys who think they look great on camera, but guys who know their sh*t and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.
love tuning
As of Sunday August 23, 2020 --- Freiburger has put the Buick up for sale.
i had a 65 skylark sedan with the 300 2 speed....the trans was awesome....dual range first gear...the Super Turbine 300...variable vane torque converter
these guys are genius'.
4:47 LMFAO man, what a shopvac!
I think that Buick looks cool tbh.
3:03 that doesn't taste right...XD lol...classic!!
Holy shit. David actually wore shoes back then.
did he say, "hit the autocross?" in a 66 buick special? daring!
its a remote starter switch. it looks fancy but all it actually is, is a push-to-make switch with two wires and a pair of crocodile clips. you clip one croc clip onto the battery feed to the starter motor, the other onto the starter motor solenoid, press the button and the engine will crank over. if you have the ignition switch turned on it will start and run. you can do the same with a screwdriver or other metal implement so long as you're careful not to short-circuit anything.
epic floor bords
These videos are so unreal that I feel as if I'm watching a TV Show! :O
You should do videos like this in Argentina I own a 1970 Dodge GTX, awesome looking car
awesome
Woah Homeless Dave has shoes on, how respectable
Here's a challenge: Find an '87 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser and bring it back to life! I love those old wagons, and I have one myself.
thanks
American men, motors, and SPIRIT can do anything.
These 66 and 67 A-Body Buick have some of the best body lines.. I do hope they restore it.. These Buick's get no respect!
I really enjoy this series guys! How about finding an Oldsmobile ;)
Damn Right Man!.
1987 isn't OLD. Find a 1971 Custom Cruiser, the one you could load 4x8 sheets of plywood into and still close the neat clamshell tailgate, (the one where the glass went up into the top and the gate rolled down under the body). I had 3 of those we used for A/C service and in our remodeling business. 455 V-8, fully loaded, 9 passenger, 5,100 #, 15 mpg on the highway. The '87s were new stuff, lower power and weight with a GM motor. Last true Oldsmobile V-8 rolled out of Lansing in 1974.
Nice projectomenta.....
