What i love about the Hellfire Gala is the way they use and honor their powers in their outfits, this happens more consistently in the next couple of galas. The powers being used in the outfits are meant to be more of a cultural artifact rather than a like "special effect" for lack of a better term. This is why Sunspot and Dazzler are absolutely slays for me. Sunspot and Storm might be the best combinations of powers mixed with fashion in the entire gala imo.

Gonna give a big agree here, you really nailed the look in this one. I could easily imagine a bunch of the characters from the Gala wearing your outfit.

I really wish I would thought of "Mayday" for 2021 - love the rhyme. Fortunately, the looks are more consistent in Slay/Save for 2022-23. 🙏🏽

I love this format! Very fun. I really like how they kept things mostly realistic (as in, you could physically make most of these outfits IRL) but with the occasional pop of something fantastical here and there, and I also appreciate that they clearly put a lot of thought into most of them, not just going for a literal interpretation of their powers nor a "fashion" version of their regular superhero outfits. I don't think I disagreed with any of your takes lol

Really love what you did with these and really appreciate your hitting them *all.* Great job. As for your evaluation style? I think you nailed the way to look at these kinds of things. A lot of the fandom at the time were *actively* making fun of the Avengers who got an invite for just showing up in their work clothes (a faux pas they rectified the next year). WRT the bare chest club, I tend to give Eyeboy more leeway than most of them as part of the idea of the Gala was mutants getting to express themselves in ways they'd been repressed for their whole lives, and Eyeboy getting to go without a shirt or too much of any covering was especially poignant for him, since he has the kind of mutation that people often react to with disgust and revulsion. Most of the other ones were pure "check out my superhero physique" though, heh. And Rachel's costume was about reclaiming a very dark time in her life. That's about the extent of my input. Sorry for hogging your comment section! Looking forward to more.

Big agree on Havok here- his look is really strong and immediately jumps out as one of the best. Synch also looking really good. No idea how you'd actually _make_ that polychromatic fabric like that, but you would look _amazing_ in it, X. Polaris I think you nailed- it's really the shape there that makes it work compared to some of the other, more boring looks. More than just the dress, she's also changed her hair up a lot to help conform with the shape of her outfit, and that really pushes it from bland to beautiful. Colossus!! His look actually stunned me for a second, the beard, the fur, the dark palette, absolutely incredible. Also really love Magneto's white suit look, I can never resist a good white suit. I did have a beat where I realized "wait... Magneto is _90 years old_ now... damn..." But hey, I guess he can still pull it off. Also really good to see Rogue in here styling. Kinda surprised at the women's side of things overall feeling a bit on the weaker side because I really was expecting more there, but Emma and Mystique thankfully came in to absolutely slay towards the end. And, honestly, for both of them it was as much the character and confidence they brought as it was the actual outfits (not that the outfits were bad, but the way they wore them really pushed them into slay territory- I guess maybe that's something of a lesson in itself.) Domino's look, though, I think she's maybe the only one of the X-Force tuxes that pulls it off. I'm _really_ biased towards a woman in a good suit or tux, and it helps that the monochrome colors work with her normal look. Loved the video overall, and I think "save vs slay" was a really fun and unique way to rate the looks. I know the long videos like this are a lot of work, but I hope you had fun making it because it was a great watch.

This was incredibly fun! Me and some of my Comic book friends went through all of the Gala Looks a few months ago! I wont Spoil anything but looking through all of the looks made me wants to read Emma Frost Comics (Had no Idea who she was before) And my absolute fave? Is Moon Knights 2023 Gala Look! @@XDF Indeed. As for personal favorite, it has to be Wiz Kid. Mainly my love for the suit that reminds me of Elton John's later attires, but also how the suit that remains faithful to his usual colors while also throwing in the white (?) details on the suit. The heeled boots and glasses just fuel that Elton look (as well as the hair) and I'm all for it.

A detail i really like about Manifold is the white circles in his body and outfit that represent his origin as a native australian, plus with the clothing the two circles in his torso forming an X

slightly late on this video, but fun fact about marvel girl/jean grey: you wouldn't have been in the wrong to give her "save the day", as she DID start wearing her hellfire gala look as her regular costume for a while, just a tad simplified (without the psychic crown and flowing cape)!

It's hard to pick a favorite, but Synch, Colossus, Karma, and Rachel are up there. Rachel's braided leash is so fierce and drag to me. If you do this again I think you might need one or two more categories, because the X-Force gang being in the same category as...Psylocke, for example, is wild. XD

Not Magik getting dragged LOL the sketch doesn't do her justice tbh. i think a running theme for the costumes of the 2021 Gala was people's powers being a part of their outfits like Storm's cloud cape, Jean's headdress, Magik's horns referencing Darkchilde and Emma in her final fit being in diamond form. (even Sunspot being in his powered form) so while the garments themselves my be lackluster the styling using the powers i think is what takes them to the next level Side note i think Iris Van Herpen could replicate Aurora's dress

Yep - they're part of the other/future galas I plan to cover.

X-Force wore matching tuxedos to the gala because they were working security. I believe most of the teams either wore the same designer or were coordinated.

That's the vibe I got - especially for the x-force. But surprisingly, some looks that seemed coordinated were actually from different designers. Very interesting overall, nevertheless

I actually like Monarch's outfit. He is giving cvnty chess piece, like a genderbent Emma Frost

I feel like Professor X being a worse dresser than Magneto may be bad in the eyes of fashionistas but really fits the character. Magneto is dressed to kill because he has killed before and will kill again and is just generally looking good while he does so, and proffessor X is a stuffy principal. How many of those have you known who were true fashion mavens? I rest my case. Also yes, I like Havoc's outfit because it combines a striking look with strong references to his theme / power. Some have a cool look because it's a neat reference, like Sunspots outfit being a reference to how he absorbs solar power and turns it into plasma blasts by having his outfit be a reference to actual plasma cascading on the sun... but as outfits it feels like there's so little of it there's not much to really talk about.

That is an interesting, fair point on Prof. X. I'm very bias toward him, so reeaally would have loved to see him with something more compelling. Sunspot makes total sense - I just wish there was a liiiittle bit more to work with 🤏🏼

I don't like Gambit's. He had a better gala outfit in X-Men 97.

Prodigy's look was so random to me, kinda basic (they put a lot of the queer characters in that corset/dress thing for some reason), and didn't feel informed by the character. You don't look at it and go, 'oh yeah, that's something David would wear.' I just didn't get it.
