    I wish drivers were still that courteous. I'm a new driver and I didnt know any if the companies so I started driving for Swift. I could never get anyone to help me simply because of that. Most drivers just want to bitch about Swift but they don't offer any help if they ever ask.

    It don't have to be that way. I helped two drivers the other night chain up so they could get over Bozeman Pass. Neither one knew how to chain up. I helped them and never took a dime. We still help each other out here in Montana.

    When I used to drive trucks I kept a handheld gas powered stihl blower in the sidebox or under the sleeper. Anytime I had to do a trailer sweep out I just crank that blower up and blow all of the dirt, dust and debris out of the trailer in a minute or so. Super fast and always got the trailer way cleaner than a broom, which uses up your energy as well.

    I was there in 1977! Inside the warehouse the forklift driver had hollowed out a little lounge right smack in the center of stacks of product. He pulled a triple-stack (maybe4?) out of a seemingly innocent row of product, swung 180 and invited me inside. He then backed into the space so the OUTSIDE looked as seamless as it overdid. BUT inside, there was was a cooler of beers, chairs and a table. Cold Bud was served-up fresh! The good old days. This certainly rivals "The Beach" inside the GM Camaro/Firebird plant in Van Nuys, Calif. Fact, not fiction, fellas!

    I agree 100 percent. Everyone should have the same routine.....landing gear down (check) pin pulled (checked) airlines and pigtails disconnected (check) lower airbags if needed or possible ( check) pull forward slowly and watch mirrors incase of the unlikely event the landing gear fail ( 1/100,000,00) chance, but it happens. Being a creature of habit makes for a safer driver.

    Lower the air bags after pulling ahead a foot, dropping the air bags immediately puts unnecessary pressure on the fifth wheel and the pin. You might know this, just trying to help, safe travels☺

    With both the trailer and the truck brakes set, that trailer is not going anywhere, especially in the few moment it takes to walk around to drop the landing gear. Some talk about good habits. IMO, paying attention to what you're doing each time is better than a mindless habit or routine.

  • @scjeebs
    @scjeebs8 жыл бұрын

    I agree if Budweiser wants a clean trailer for their beer, then they need to have a washout service, they can charge the companies less and do it right there, for five minutes of work they can be like the airlines and make millions on unneeded charges. Go Blue......

    It is an ok place to visit, if you just go to see the Arch, Six Flags and i was fortunate, enough, to see/hear Metallica @ The Arena, in 1991 or thereabouts and a few years, later i saw/heard Neil Diamond @ a different venue. Good times, although, i was not raped, on either occasion, darn the lick. Rest, in pieces, The Arena. Cool venue and the Acoustics were great, but, the steps were steep, in that place. As steep or steeper than the Arch, it seemed like. Also, I-55 Speedway (Pevely, Missouri) is not to be missed, if in the St. Louis area. One of the best Dirt Tracks, either side of the Mississippi, in my opinion.

    Back when Arrow was still a thing...All of our equipment had their empty weights on the side. I'm sure they still wanted their own paper trail of the tractor weights, though. Plenty of times that I'd come into a shipper and they'd ask what my empty weight was and I could tell them at a glance.

    Budweiser in Fort Collins Colorado require the interior of the emptied drop off trailer be pressure-washed.... pre-loaded trailer it is then weighed out on a digital readout scale... it gives the gross vehicle and the axle weight all at the same time!
