6220SMAX 6" Super max Dredge by Keene Engineering

This is Keene Engineering's Newest 6" dredge that is designed for super fine gold recovery even down to 300 mesh. This new dredge has it all, portability, breaks down into small component, amazing fine gold recovery high power and more. The new flotation system provides superior stability even in fast water and is very comfortable with all the deck space and the large carpeted center platform in center.

    So around min 9-10 I picked up that Pat is not a fan of "rubber riffles" aka HOGMAT (making it a purpose not to name names at that point, but giving the illusion of being respectful or having "class."), had to make a "jab" that a person using HOGMATS would have to do a clean out more often. Like every 2-4hrs. Then when Pat described the outter sluice boxes, he definitely mentioned the "miracle mat," and by name, mind you. What it sounds like is that Pat Keene was approached by HOGMAT for a business deal when it came to what Keene used in their sluice boxes for recovery. And something obviously didn't work out (usually anything from making or breaking contracts or with the number crunches/money percentages etc). And knowing Pat, he probably got to the point where he just told them that if he thought mats were so much better than screens carpets and metal Hungarian riffles, he would instead just use his own money and resources to create his own mats for his dredges. Besides, Pat did say that he did have testing done of many rubber mats or riffles. And according to Pat, the best was "miracle mat." Then again, Pat did say that it takes optimal conditions for "miracle mat" to work. In other words, that could be interpreted as, that Pat got the cheapest deal/contract through "miracle mat."..... Lol...... Just saying.......... Nevertheless, there is zero doubt that Keene dredges and their other equipment are really great quality and durability and do their intended jobs very well. Thanks Pat!

    We can modify the dredge for diamonds. We have not tested it but we believe that the best option is to add one additional center float to the dredge that would add an additional 4 foot of floatation. The foats and frame would go from 14 feet long to 18 feet long. We would add a additional sluice length of 4 feet after the sump. The sump would remove the sand so the diamond riffel should really do a nice job.

    Perhaps not material but before we take it out in the field it is great to put it in the pool and work out some of the details. We already had a prototype working in the Philippines on some 200 to 500 mesh gold for over 4 months before we got to this stage.

    Hello Mark , I'm just wondering how many gallons per hr dus that pump run ?

  • @KeeneEngInc

    @KeeneEngInc

    7 жыл бұрын

    Ok you asked each pump produces 250 GPM at 45 psi. 250 x 2 500 GPM 500 x .90 = 450.00 GPM through the hose. So if you can maintian even a 10% slurry. 44 gallons of material per minute. 44 x .1337 = 5.88 cubic feet per minute. 5.88 cubic feet x 60 = 176.4 cubic feet per hour 352 cubic feet per hour Around 13 yards per hour. If you can maintain a higher slurry then you can go higher. Calinfonia type dredge we are lucky if we can get a 5% slurrly all depends on the type of ground and the operator.

    That screened grating riffle @ 9:50 does a nice job removing and protecting fine heavy material from large rocks. I made something like this to improve fine gold recovery on my Keene 4" 3 stage dredge. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmZ4zbahqK_Rk7A.html My version has this right after the undercurrent section that I run fully open. The drop zone in the first 6 inches of screened grating riffle will typically contain gold no larger than 30 to usually 50 mesh. If you are dredging fine gold with a lot of heavy black sands something like this is a must.

    Soo what you're saying is, you learned from gold hog that changing up the riffles throughout the sluice catches more gold? I know they're competitors but I'm really surprised you're not using gold hog mats. Everyone I know with a Keene sluice, dredge, highbanker are all running gold hog mats because they work better and catch more gold. That's why those boys are killing the game.

  • @KeeneEngInc

    The gold hog mats work well in a controlled environment. When you run unclassified material through them, the recovery drops signifigantly. When using a dredge, there are some issues such as clearing rock jams getting your tip stock on rocks etc. the hog mat does not perform well due to the variety of water flows and the stopping the starting of water flows. We prefer a more forgiving riffle such and carpets miners moss and a verity of riffle designs. I have played with a veratiy of hog mats and fond they did perform well in controlled conditions and steady water flows. A dredge is a whole different ball game. I also did not care for the hog mat once loaded with heavies is lost more gold than tha standard riffle did. A lot of people do not know what they are doing. I have spoken with Dozens of customers and that the same experience that I did.

    Aren’t all the sluices that people are trying invent just to short. There isn’t enough time for the heavies to separate and fall

    The Hungarian riffle design is and will always be one of the best riffle designs due to the fact, that is not just a trap but a rejuvenating riffle. Our Grandfather who was a Mining Engineer that graduated from the Colorado School of Mines and hung his hat on the Hungarian design due to the constant exchange, the heavier material will exchange with the lighter silicates that have a much lesser specific gravity utilizing the forces of the eddy currents. We have a good understanding of fluid dynamic principals throughout our combined experience of about 75 years, building mining equipment. There is a lot of hype of new rubber mats designs that mainly trap. These Mats perform ok but, without an exchange rate like the Hungarian design. The main problem with a trap is, black sands are mostly, 30 mesh size particles that have crystalline sharp edges, uneven fractures, and hexoctahedral splinters. Black sands will agitate and lock together like a puzzle. Gold has a specific weight of 19.3 and Magnetite is 5.4 but the gold that is almost four times heavier cannot penetrate the layer of black sands and skid the surface until the gold migrates out of the sluice. In order to get optimal recovery, it is necessary to classify to uniform size particles or as small as possible to achieve the best recovery possible. In the real world of mining, people run too much water, too much angle and don’t have enough surface area in the sluice. Another thing is if you do not utilize a classifier like our new sluices have, the larger rocks will create eddy currents and vortices around rocks and riffles and cause migrate gold or migrate or boil down the box and loose gold. Even a fluctuation in water flow can cause them to blow out, a slight side to side pitch can cause the gold to mover further down the box. The carpets, Miners moss, expanded metals, Hungarian riffle are very forgiving. Also with some of the rubber mats, they work well until they are loaded with black sands. I find them not to be as self-cleaning as conventional systems. I like to use the term, regenerative riffle such as miracle matting and is a very good example of a regenerative riffle design. Most of the fancy mats our there perform poorly once they are loaded and they are not forgiving and some of them are more of a gimmick without enough testing, The best way to catch your gold is two things. Slow the water down with screens and classify. That is what we like about the new sluice, the screens slow the material under the screen. The rifle is protected from the larger rocks allowing the rifle to do its job. We have all seen tons of new rifle designs and tested more than anyone knows. We also use tools such as computerized hydrodynamics flow simulations and good old fashion hard work and testing.
