I've been eagerly awaiting LNER A2 60532 Blue Peter's return to service and having missed the loco running in on the Severn Valley Railway and its mainline test runs, I was keen to see its full mainline return. This took place on Saturday 13th July 2024 when the loco hauled a private charter from King's Cross to York, having stood in Platform 8 for an hour for a rededication ceremony.
I first went to Kings Cross to get some stationary shots of the loco but, unfortunately, I got there too late to get a clear shot as there was a 91 on Platform 7 and barriers around 60532. l then went up the ECML to Alexandra Palace, hoping that as the train was going over the flyover to join the Hertford Loop, they would have the regulator wide open. As it turned out they opened up just before the station, the distinctive 3-cylinder beat being music to my ears.
