600HP Turbo VR6 Swapped Toyota MR2 Spyder: Build Breakdown
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is a brief overview of the mods completed so far on the Toyota MR2 Spyder project labeled "Project Supercar". My goal of this car build was to have a mid-engine car capable of exceptional supercar performance, while maintaining modern interior and exotic exterior features, within a reasonable budget. I also wanted to do something that was unique and motivate others to push the envelope on the norm for modifying a car.
This car features parts from VW Golf MKIV, Audi TT MK1, Ford Mustang, Ford Pinto, Porsche 911 Turbo, Fiat 500, VW MKI Rabbit, Dodge Hellcat, Honda Civic, and of course a small part of it is a Toyota MR2.
I apologize for the camera jitters, I discovered I had incorrect camera settings after footage was taken.

Amazing swap! My wifey won't even let me change the 1zz!

The only reason I was able to persuade this, was she drove a silver TT that I hit a deer with. This donor car was for "spare body panels".
600HP IN THAT LIL CAR XD you mad lad. I cant even imagine how my mrs would feel with that much power

I despise how many of my ideas you've had. Epic build.
Finally. Imagined this swap before. Awesome. Watching your journey!

I'm not trying to be that guy but you should really consider harnesses if you don't have them. 600hp in an mr2 spider with no airbags is a recipe for danger

They are on the list. I'm going to do a roll bar at the same time. I'm not pushing the car until then. Leaving it at an easy 350 for now.

One of the best sounding engines
Hooooly shit! Thats a wild build :D seing Audi/VW parts on the MR2 always feels kind of weird but even more awesome because it does not seem as straight forward for a swap. Definately subbed, I wanna see more :P

Did you fabricate the motor mounts or did you buy them? I would like to do a similar build for time attacks. I would go with the cast iron block 2.8L vr6 bore and striked to 3.0L. Where would suggest to get used vr6 engines? Is the engine you sourced from a v dubr32? Awesome job. Id love to see you using his car in autocross or time attacks or open series race days or practices!
@269Garage

I fabbed my own, and I sourced my engine and gearbox from a TT, which is the same block as the R32 or Touareg. I'd think the best 2.8 source would be from a mid 2000s jetta. Just make sure they're 24v instead of 12v. If I need a new block for mine, I'm gonna use a Touareg block since the R32 ones are rare. Also, all VR6 blocks are cast iron no matter what size if that matters.
True gear head 👌

The front ones are kinda shown in the second video I posted. Not sure if I'd recommend it unless you've done a full audi electronics swap, and need the hub and sensor design. I'll be doing a video in the future on finishing the air suspension setup that will have more detail on the rear setup.

The hunk of cast iron that connects to all of the suspension components and wheel hub. Or the red guy from Sonic the Hedgehog.
Awesome! Was there a mechanical reason for extending the wheelbase, or was it a stylistic thing?
@269Garage
Жыл бұрын
Stylistic mostly and ease of installation and removal of the drivetrain. I can pull it in less than an hour, or 3 beers.

Both engines are capable of big power, just one sounds better than the other, and has a better dyno curve for both hp and torque. It's all about preference at the end of the day, and I work on VW/Audi as my hobby. I'm not a Honda guy.

@@269GarageSo nicely said ! Your a very motivated talented guy ! Im watching this at least a year after you had posted this and i am hungering to hear more about how it performed on the street or track ? I drove a 450 HP 91 MK2 a few years ago and i was shocked at the grenade curve on throttle. It wasn’t really a fun drive as it was a handful when the turbo was spun up so much power all at once and especially in a 2,700 pound car i cant imagine 600 or 700 HP in that little go cart lots of smiles per mile . I liked and subscribed !
