6 Years After Nirbhaya, Men Tell us Why Men Rape | The Quint

The Quint went out on the streets of Delhi, in the month of December at Night - to ask men why rapes happen, who is to blame, what makes someone commit rape.

@@souradeepdas8195 it LITERALLY depends on the rapists because a women in burqa is as likely to get raped as the one in the bikini and it is not even a hypothetical situation anymore as it has happened multiple times in the country. Now this doesn't necessarily mean that women who go out at midnight wearing hot pants are doing a very sensible and unquestionable thing but the point is, as i mentioned earlier, women in both the scenarios ARE getting raped nevertheless so how does her clothing even matter? So holding women accountable for it would probably be the sickest thing a man can do.

@@barirahusmani9522 Going out at night can be dangerous for both men and women. My two friends were out at 3am catching a train and found themselves walking alone on the road when four individuals approached them with knives and demanded money. They could have fought back, but it could have put their lives at risk. Unfortunately, in our country, there are no laws allowing citizens to carry guns, making it difficult for us to defend ourselves. We live in a society where criminals have access to firearms, but as civilians, we do not have the means to protect ourselves. As a result, my friends were forced to give up what they had on them. This type of situation is becoming increasingly common in India. There is no way to stop criminals, they have existed throughout history. Where there are good people, there will also be bad people. The best way to stay safe is to take preventive measures.

@@souradeepdas8195 this would've been a great example had we been discussing crimes in general and not a specific type of crime which in this case is rape. in that particular example your stance stands vague and irrelevant. ofc protecting ourselves is on us (for both men and women) but the same question arises again which is are the women who are not wearing such revealing clothes on a safer side? the answer to which is no. a rapist will a rape a women regardless of what she is wearing so the problem isn't clothes but the men who rape and a society which still holds the victim responsible. end of discussion

@@barirahusmani9522 In Indian society, it is not common for women to wear revealing clothing such as bikinis in public. However, now, due to the influence of Western culture, some women may choose to wear more revealing clothing in order to gain attention from others. Additionally, Rape occurs in isolated and dark places, not in crowded places, and has no correlation to what a woman is wearing. Given that we live in a flawed society, it is important for both men and women to exercise caution when going out alone at night or avoid going out at night altogether. As we discussed everyone's mindsets are different. Someone gets triggered by some dresses some by others which we don't know, so now if my chicks want to go out at night in a short dress half nude then as a man I will object as I don't want to risk my girl when I know 70 percent of people are illiterate and poor, unemployment along with ranking lowest as under stuff policeman in the world index. I love her so I can't risk her life in society education or criminal mindset. So I will request my girl not to go out at night unless it is necessary. Now if you say I am controlling her body and her rules theory then you need to come to reality. Even in modern society, In every war women are the victim of rape. Criminals have existed throughout history and they will exist forever. No punishment or education can stop them so take preventive measures as much as possible. It's actually the problem of people's perspective... If a girl is raped she's the only one to be blamed... Everyone keeps saying that girls should not be going around wearing revealing clothes and all.. bt that's not even true.. there are such People who rape a 5/6months girls also! ! I don't know how .. those are just Little baby girls... Can you blame those babies ? The problem is of men... They think that problems are only with girls that drive them to rape.. They want them to come home early.. bt girls are also raped in broad daylight...even if a guy just randomly pick up a girl, the People around there would remain silent.. they'll just watch silently. And when the issue becomes big.. they start to protest for justice... What's funnier is that the rapist could also be protesting for justice and we don't even know... The World is developing definitely bt for women the world is becoming more unsafe day by day...

Guys and girls, I don't think girls will be ever safe in India until girls themselves become violent. I am no priest so I don't preach. Fuck if anything threatened me, I'll beat the fuck out of that thing. But remember girls, when you raise hand on a man, he will fight back ! So fuck the ego inside of yours , fuck the attitude and help each other. Your father, brother, cousins or boyfriend won't be with you 24/7. Learn to be humble towards each other and help each other. Girls alone are weak, but girls together are very strong. Don't underestimate your hands. Beat the fuck out of anyone who threatens you. But if you could get police on time then it's all better. Even we boys rely on police when facing powerful enemies. That's just the flaw of our judiciary system. Girls be powerful. Remember, even when we homo sapiens just started here on earth we relied on strength of togetherness. There's nothing to be ashamed of. Help each other. Atleast girls don't lynch perverts. We cannot expect perverts to change their mind by themselves.

Education isn’t just for getting a job. If Indian society would be more open towards the topic of consent and teach about sex these things wouldn’t happen. They are right that people from lower classes generally molest women because of lack of education but still they also ain’t wrong that people with knowledge don’t. That’s why education is a *MUST*.

I mean if you are driving at 200 kmph on a city road and then end up crashing, I think some responsibility falls on the driver as well. This ain't a fairyland kiddo, this is real life. You can't change every evil person to be good because if that were the case there would be no stealing, m*rder, assault and SA today. If you really hate victim blaming, then just start keeping your door unlocked at night. Surely if you are robbed, the entire responsibility falls on the robber right?

@@zappy9880 First off, if someone is driving at 200 kmph and ends up in a crash, 'all the responsibility, not some' falls on the reckless driver. There's a reason why there are rules in place. So your analogy is irrelevant and weak. However, the issue here is someone driving at 200 kmph crashes into a person driving at 50/60 kmph well within the speed limit. Then people like you blame the second person for driving where the first idiot was driving. That's the excuse you're trying to make and I'm sorry, that doesn't fly, kiddo. This ain't a lawless country where people are allowed to let their intrusive thoughts win every time. This is real life with real consequences for unlawful actions. Second, nobody is claiming this is Utopia where everyone is well behaved and nothing is wrong. There's a difference between irresponsibility and 'asking to be raped'. A person not locking the doors at night is most definitely irresponsible but does that mean the thief is absolved of their crime? No. The thief will be punished once caught. Do you know why? Because that's not their house. So no matter how many times a person is irresponsible and doesn't lock their door, they are not at fault for being robbed. Are they stupid for keeping their doors open? Most certainly. Who keeps their doors unlocked? But can the criminal use that as an excuse? Most definitely not. Third, instead of blaming the victims for not being careful, why don't you advocate for harsher laws against SA perpetrators? Why so sympathetic and willing to present their case? Take a long hard look at yourself and do some serious introspection. If you are willing to accept such sick perversion in society, I'm sorry you are part of the problem. If you are not willing to help build a safer society for everyone and instead use energy on victim blaming and shaming, you are part of the problem. Grow up.

I'm a guy who's views on such subject is disliked by women like you, and I know many black hearted guys who talk very decently with women only to use and abuse them later on. According to various stats, in India more than 90 percent of rapes happen where women previously knew the perpetrator and trusted him. So, :small clothes so raped', such cases are far less than rape by trusted fellow. This rape by trusted fellow or uncle is what gives you most psychological trauma and renders you incapable of healthy relationships by giving you trust issues for life. There are far greater problems and crimes in India and law enforcement is so little and already overworked. We just don't have enough resources to put a police man in every isolated nook and corner where a woman might feel like going alone or with her 'trusted' guy. It will be more practical and responsible for women of good families to put their sincere effort in staying out of trouble, they, being an adult should learn to take care of themselves so that police and law enforcement would have time and energy for women who are actual victims of crimes and could do very little to nothing to protect themselves. I'm not someone ordering anyone how to wear but there's a fine line between Wearing short dresses and showing Vulgarity. Over short dresses exposing cleavage show Vulgarity. I don't know from where these women studied that Wearing over short dresses are attractive. U can still be attractive by wearing Attractive Clothes. Short dresses showing Vulgarity is not equal to attractive. Do u agree with my opinion. ( This opinion is not about r@pe or it's context tho...think it as from neutral POV)
