Do you remember going across the monkey bars as a kid? Do you have kids that play for hours on the monkey bars and you wish you could still do that? Well you can! Seriously.
All it takes is some simple progressions to gradually improve your strength and stamina to eventually get across those monkey bars. Even if monkey bars isn't your goal, working on hanging progressions is a super helpful way to increase your strength not only in your upper body and core, but also your grip and your wrists.
Our body does really well when we can provide different loads to the muscles and tissues. Adding an element of hanging, whether it is an overhead hang on a bar, or side hang with your hand on a pole or doorway, it is a fantastic way to give your muscles the diversity of movements they need.
In the video you will learn 6 simple movements and progressions to get you started on building functional strength so that you feel more capable in your everyday life no matter what age or stage you are at. Take your time, start small but stay consistent and you will notice a difference right away.
And most importantly... have fun while you are doing it!!

Starting to train for a Spartan race; this was a great initial tutorial on the basics which I didn't need 60 years ago. Thanks for this

Thanks so much, Kerri. I've tried to offer some creative ways to build the strength, so I'm glad you like these variations!
Great job on that pull-up. Gonna share this with my sister in law. I think watching you she'll feel more relaxed and confident that she can get. She probably feels she'll never reach my level. Thank you so much.❤️❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I have never been able to do the monkey bars and I challenged myself to do the monkey bars unassisted without breaks in 2 months. This was super helpful for me to reach my goal :)

Great video, thank you!
very useful video. thanks
Thank you so much! Instascribe :) I used to love the monkey bars as a kid, but now that I'm 33 years old and can't do a single pull up, they are terrifying to me. Thanks for all the great advice. Looking forward to hit that playground on the way back from my run tomorrow :)

Glad this was so helpful! Yes, pull-ups are hard, it takes time and consistency. Either way, just hanging on the bars can be so beneficial. Hope you had fun at the playground :)
Love this Brea! I've been working on the pull up for two years, so hard! But even the work is life changing and feels so great 💪🏻
Great breakdown of stages. Thank you so much. I wonder if you have read any Katie bowman? I think you would love her. Thanks for this video. Really useful and I am off to the park now,

Glad the breakdown of the steps helped for you! And yes, I know Katy, I trained and certified with her many years ago :)
Would you please show your design decisions and how you built the monkey bars.
I’ve searched for indoor diy monkey bars tutorials and these ones seem to be best for saving space in a small room. Is this structure stable while people are swinging on it? Does it damage the walls?
You are a beast Brea!!!
