Looks like I came across this video at the perfect time! I’m a Kinesiotherapist (ikr, “what?”) and have exhausted all opportunities for growth at the veterans hospital I work for. @@lmatthews27ify It’s pretty informative. A lot of stuff discussed in the videos are in the courses so I’d definitely say it’s realistic to the role. It should prepare you for an entry level role in PM. Take lots of notes as there are lots of videos/articles.

@@021kelsie Got it, I’m PMP certified through PMI and I know they they also do the CAP-M certification. Either way, whether it’s through google or PMI, try to get your job to sponsor it for you!

Finding your page has to be the best part of my week. Thanks for simplifying PM and helping me understand certain things. I have 6 years event management experience and 1 years experience managing other projects besides events and i am currently struggling to transition fully into project management. I also just got an official training. What do you advice I do to pivot?

Thank you so much for that feedback, I truly appreciate it and I’m so glad to hear that the content was helpful! 6 years in event management, that’s awesome and those are definitely still projects, I would just ensure that your resume reflects that, talk about the budgets you’ve handled and how many events you were able to juggle at once, the stakeholders you collaborated with, the documentation and tools you used to keep organized and update your clients, your ability to execute on time, on budget, and within the perimeters you were contracted for, etc. Not sure what industry you want to transition into, but in the meantime, to get more projects under your belt maybe volunteering for a community group, school board, etc and taking on some additional projects will definitely add to your experience. Good luck with everything, you got this!🙌🏾☺️

Hey Chrissy so glad to found your channel. I just got my PMP after working as acting coordinator for couple years. However working as coordinator did not involve any meetings or some technical stuff which I need to work as a PM . What should I do? Can you please guide me. Thanks 🙏🏾

Hi! Thank you for watching! If you got your PMP, you would’ve needed to demonstrate project management experience. Look at what you wrote for those sections of the PMP application and see what you can incorporate into your resume. Also write a list of what you do on a day to day and your overall goals with your role, how your role supports projects and include that on your resume as well. Hope that helps!

Yes, I totally get that. It’s hard as well depending on location, but make sure you have a strong resume highlighting all your project management skills, as well as a strong cover letter. It can be the difference that gets you the interview when there is tons of competition.

I have a BSN but im burned out working the floor so i started the google PM certification course but i just found out through some research that you cant take the PMP exam without x amount of hours and 36 months experience working as a PM, so my question is... do i just apply for jobs with the google cert for now until i get the hours and experience required?

Hi Nini, yes you will need those hours. The google cert can help you to understand the framework enough to start putting things into practice, you can either see what projects you can start doing at your current job or try to find another. You can also volunteer and get the hours that way. Getting a CAP-M certification is more of my recommendation for now because all you need is the course hours and jobs prefer that over the google certification. Hope that helps. I did my Google certification as well. I am moving on to testing. Just F.Y.I for your 36 months of experience you can use ANY experience that you have doing projects. For example have you planned a birthday party ( what did you do from beginning to end and what were the dates). Have you planned your wedding ( same thing what did you do and what were the steps from beginning to end. Anything you have done from start to finish can be considered as a project. Hope this helped.

Can I ask if it's possible for me to break into project management even if I finished a degree in the arts? I'm a Communication arts major and I was mostly dabbling with research writing, speech and theater productions, on top of that I also have ADHD. But I still wanted to shift into project management, because I feel like overseeing the progress in projects is very fulfilling.

Hi Bianca, yes of course, you can look for entry level project management roles such as project coordinator or project assistant. If you’re working now and need to stay in your job for a bit, then take the initiative to start doing some little projects around the office, or making simple things that can fill a gap and make a process easier for your team. If you have a project manager in your office, ask to assist them sometimes on some of the work they are doing. That will help open the door for you.

Yes! You can even get hired as a PMP with that tbh. Make sure your resume speaks to being a manager even if you weren’t. Not lie. But use words to show leadership. You don’t have to be a manager to be a leader or take on important tasks. So yeah APPLY.

Yes, I’ll add that to the list, but there are several different industries that are looking for project managers. For example, healthcare, education, aerospace, tech companies, manufacturing, construction, hospitality, finance, etc.

Hi love, most certainly. It really just depends on what you’ve done in terms of projects. If you’ve worked on projects or lead projects at previous jobs regardless of your degree, you want to highlight that. As I mentioned in the video, it’s all in how your frame things. Use the process groups attachment to rework your resume, highlighting projects and using project management language. Hope that helps! Good luck!❤️

Hi, with a masters in project management, you should have the 35 hours of project management education but the difference between your masters and the PMP certification is that you’re going to need 36 months, which is about 7500 hours, of demonstrated project management experience. Once you can attest to those hours, then you will be eligible to sit for the PMP exam.

That’s great. If you don’t have project management experience, you can start putting the certification to work by taking on projects at your current job or use it to apply to entry level project management positions (project coordinator or project associate). Good luck!

I was so pumped until I realized I have to show proof for every project I’ve coordinated for a PMP certification. No proof of all of my work and I’ve been doing it for 6 years. The only alternative I can think of is getting a degree.

Hi Cece, for the certification, the “proof” that you submit is really in the form of explanation, you have to explain the projects, the work you completed on them, estimated hours spent, all within the context of the 5 process groups. You attest to that and you may be selected for a random audit, where they would verify the work with the employer (I believe they would just need to sign off if true).

Hi Allen, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get a PM job when you’re finished with school. Just make sure while you’re in school, you join different groups, help with events and different projects and get some experience. That is going to be really important when you are ready to search for a job. Good luck!

That’s awesome, and you most certainly can do it! Project management is really a standard for how to deliver projects, there are two basic types of project delivery: waterfall and agile, but I think you’re probably more concerned with where you can do project management, what industry you can work in. As far as industries, the opportunities are endless, you can work in healthcare, IT, food industry, retail, construction, fashion, real estate, hotels, there are so many options.

Entry level salary?

My problem is that I am trying to know if I can study PM in university or maybe just take the google path to save time

A lot of Project Management positions require a bachelor’s degree, but there are definitely universities that offer project management programs. Also if you know what industry you want to be in (for example healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, engineering, etc.), you can go to school for that and get the PM certificate on the side, you’ll be a specialist in your industry and know how to manage projects.
