6 Things You Should Know About Freestyle Libre

I hope you find this video useful. This video is made for new users of the Freestyle Libre or for people who are interested in getting the Freestyle Libre.
0:40 1. Freestyle Libre is a CGM ( Continous Glucose Monitor) but it is not a real-life CGM. So the FSL sensor measures glucose content in your interstitial fluid every 5 min, but those readings are not wirelessly transmitted all the time to the reader. Those readings are only sent when the sensor is scanned by the reader or the app on the phone
2:08 2. FSL sensors use Metal Fibre instead of needles. This can impact your accuracy
3:34 3. FSL does not require finger prick calibrations because it is factory calibrated
4:06 4. FSL sensor application is easy and great for beginners
5:00 5. FSL system is a finger prick replacement and not a real-time
CGM
5:53 6. FSL reader gives you an 'average' of the last couple of readings ( Measured every 60 sec and saved to the memory every 15 min)

Thank you for this informative video. I appreciate you teaching me more in depth what this lil gadget is doing. I've been using the 14 day Libre for a few months and I absolutely love it. My fingers were so sore from poking repeatedly and I'm still having some issues with them. This reader is extremely helpful with keeping up with where I'm at & what I'm eating. Subscribed.

I want to say thank you so much for your video. It cemented my wanting to get one. My doctor has been fighting me about it because I am type 2 and not type 1. But he just put me on a third medication. And couldn’t understand my need. Well I wanted to start fasting and was scared to try it without a better way to track my sugar levels. Yesterday . I started my 20-22 hour fasting and this monitor is amazing! I have not had to take any meds and I am with in the 80-140 range all day the last two days. I have been double checking with a tester and I am only seeing slight differences. I will keep you posted if you like. Again I am sooo glad you made this video!!

Thanks for the video. I have been using FreeStyle Libre 14 day for over a year and a half . Love the idea that I have finger tips again. However, you seem to get an occasional itching and when the sensor is removed you get a skin discoloration. If you are not careful you can knock off the sensor from your arm . The sensor needs a doctor's prescription , so it can be costly . So, I have tried a new location starting today-my belly. This year the price has increase, even with my prescription insurance. So , I am debating the sensor price over the test strips price.

I use the Libre, what I wasn't told about it when I got it is the sensor itself doesn't have a needle, BUT the applicator that applies it DOES, that's how the filament on the sensor gets under the skin, doesn't hurt when you apply it tho, feels like a shot, actually my shots hurt worse then the sensor application lol I LOVE this thing!! I got my finger tips back, I was testing so often my finger tips actually got thick skin on them, and started bruising, now since I've been using the Libre, my finger tips have gone back to nice and soft, the price of the sensors tho for only 2 weeks is killing me lol monthly price around my area WITH a coupon from a RX saver site, was still $60-70 for each sensor

Hi Diabetic Energetic, thanks a lot for this video! In search for the appropriate CGM system (first time user) I have been following lately quite a number of contributions and comments on the Internet regarding that topic but still I cannot make up my mind. Since the new Dexcom G6 is not available yet in my country I tend to decide for the Freestyle Libre in combination with the Ambrosia Blucon Nightrider, which is now also waterproof if I understand correctly, and the SpikeApp. A bit irritating I find the varying impressions people have regarding the accuracy of measurement results of the various systems but I guess that one has to live with this for now and just find the most suitable system for oneself. Thank you very much for your great contributions and help! You are really doing a great job! All best wishes!

Hi. so I've only knocked my sensor off ones and Abbott replaced it. Abbott has 14-day sensor guarantee and you are qualified for a replacement sensor when that happens. Mine was knocked off in the Ryanair toilet and I don't want to share more details 😂🤣 and it was on the 13-day and they still replaced it. To actually solve the issue, you can use special big plasters available at boots or your local pharmacy. Also, you can buy specially made libre patches on some websites ( i think RockaDex is one). They basically make the adhesive bigger so it sticks better but i still think a patch that covers the entire sensor will be better ( one that fully covers it). I hope that helps

Hey I just got my sensor yesterday, but it seems as though I get numerous signal loss alarms. My phone ends up being in one room and I am walking around the house during the day, and sometimes I get the alarm indicating signal loss. How can I see easily be corrected? Do I have to constantly carry my phone around? I do right now to avoid the signal loss and I do scan more than three times per day. Does restarting my phone help with this? Please let me know. Thank you so much for this awesome video.

How often do you have to scan it? Everytime before you eat? Or is it just certain times throughout the day.

Do you happen to know the difference between the Libre 2 and the Libre 3? I just found out about the 3, went to their website and saw it there.

If there is a way to transfer your readings history to a computer graph or excell chart on a computer that would be very helpful.

How are people getting freestyle Libras and other things like insulin pumps. I can only guess they are loaded and just buy them. I'm on 6 dosees of insulin a day so six injection for years and the NHS still won't put me on a pump. Plus absolutely no chance of having a free style Libra unless you're on a pump. I've tried everything. I know enough about unit to carb conversion and so on. Anyone have any tips

Hey . No I’ve never used it on any other part of my body other than my arm. Firstly , libre is only certified to be accurate there and also it’s easy to scan your arm. 😃

My newly diagnosed son is going to trial one Thursday he cannot wait ! I just watched your other video and was really pleased to know it’s a insulin calculator also !! I was planning on still pricking prior to meals , do we need to or do you just rely on this alone ?! Great videos 👌👌👌

That’s amazing . And thanks so much for your lovely comment. I would suggest finger pricking for the first couple of days to see if it’s accurate. And then just use values from the sensor if it’s accurate. Tips to improve accuracy: make sure he drinks a lot of water, and he doesn’t sleep on the sensor or apply pressure ( lean on it) as it will mess the reading up as it will go into compression low. I hope that helps 😊😆😀

Diabetic Energetic Thank u for reply !! Ok cool , he does need to drink more anyway so I’ll def remember that ! He can’t wait bless him , I hope it’s all he wants it to be ! Even if just the relief when he’s doing sports and School checks when he’s not eating . Just the time delay concerns me as far as hypos go , he’s in him honeymoon period atm , he’s good at recognising them just if the machine is slow maybe he won’t act right away once he swipes to check ?! I dunno just have to see I guess 😊

I am diabetic for 25+ years and I loop for a less expansive sensor. Is there one? In Rio de Janeiro it costs around BRL$ 240.00 for a 14-day sensor. That"s about US$60.00.
