Seneca - How To Be Mentally Tough (Stoicism)
In this video we will be talking about how to be mentally tough from the wisdom of Seneca. Seneca is renowned for his teachings on stoicism, and one of his most popular works is "Letters from a Stoic", a collection of letters that he wrote to his friend Lucilius.
So here are 6 ways to be mentally tough from the wisdom of Seneca -
01. Focus on One Activity at a Time
02. Practice philosophy to Control your Impulses
03. Stay prepared
04. Voluntarily embrace hardship
05. Avoid self-victimization
06. Spend time in Solitude
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope you find these insights from Seneca very helpful in keeping your calm.
Seneca was a prominent Roman philosopher and playwright who published several essential works about Stoicism. He counseled Emperor Nero, and thought that anger is a temporary madness, and that even when justified, we should never act on the basis of it because it affects our sanity. Seneca wrote a book specifically on anger called “De Ira” which defines and explains anger within the context of Stoic philosophy, and offers advice on how to prevent and control anger and that’s why in this video we are going to look at 10 ways we can control our anger from the teachings of Seneca.
Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

We all know what stoicism mean to all men that make their search to self improvement and what is to become responsible for your acts and true to himself. But on the other end, what does the other gender can bring to the table ? Is feminism a all piece of garbege that does not deserve to be studied through ? On this short video I tried to bring the sides of feminism that can be compared side to side with stoicism and what can be learnt with it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKqWmpuimKrTpdo.html&ab_channel=VoiceoftheReason

Stoicism will never get as big as it should bc it’s basically telling people to take accountability in most aspects. Stop blaming others. Learn to control yourself, your emotions, your actions.

They like to congregate at my cubicle to socialize about random things… Today was about sending me to “modern day knights” boot camp (this is simply because I work out like once a week… barely). As Lao Tzu stated: A man may conquer a million men in battle, but he who conquers himself is, indeed, the noblest of warriors. Life will never go our way, but at least our own body should go our way. Just because we've been raised and trained to be compulsively reacting bundles of stress and confusion doesn't mean we ought to stay that way just because humanity has normalized it's own degradation. Question everything. We're all product's of other people's past. To be an authentic person one has to outgrow their own nature. Because your nature is nothing but the product of your childhood. A childhood which you never chose but which was forced upon you by your environment. Do you want to stay that way or do you want to be your own authentic self?

When we attract rude ppl, we know they re toxic but we keep wastinc our precious time and energy on them because they pretend they re sorry and can act nice and sweet… what should be the best way to deal with this type of ppl?? @@recuerdos2457 you don't owe anybody anything and nobody owes you anything. You can be nice because it feels nice to be nice. But if you want to get upset instead and feel angry then that is also valid. But either way it's you reacting to them. Spend your energy wisely, don't waste it getting upset over something that you can't change. If people want to be toxic or rude then that's their choice, you don't have to associate with them. And you don't have to get upset over it. Because it's never worth getting worked up over things outside of our control. Instead we should remain calm and focus on the things we can control. For example cutting that person out of our lives. It is free to be nice, but it costs energy to be upset. We always have a choice, to accept and move on, or to resist and stay stuck. Either way, life will keep on going. Are we gonna flow along? Or are we gonna get stuck on every single branch because we feel like other people should be different to how they are? Let them be, but don't let them hold you back. Accept them, forgive them for their ignorance and then move on. Anything else is just you clinging to dead branches and wondering why you're not moving forward. 🙏

I've watched a number of philosophy/therapy videos like this and there are absolutely some good advice in them. But it bothers me that almost all focus on you changing you or your life to fit in your society, ignoring that society may be the problem. On a small scale, the promotion example here ignores the fact that often promotions aren't based on merit. You can use it as an opportunity/inspiration to improve your skills, but it won't change the fact some are promoted due to cronyism, nepotism, rascist/sexist beliefs, etc. On a larger scale, the majority of difficulties, stresses, etc we face in our lives aren't due to any failing on our part, but to corrupt systems (economic, political, religious, social, etc) that prevent improvements and limit options. There's the saying "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you"; well "just because you self victimize doesn't mean you're not a victim" either.

Also seeing very early Greek orthodoxy monasteries recruits were show detailed depictions of torture & murder that they should expect in life. Visited some of these in Greek Islands this summer.

I think the stoics and Greek philosophers are great. But I also really appreciate the 12 step programs: : One day at a time; do the next right thing; Keep It Simple (KIS), let go let God; Control what you can control, don't control what you can't, and have the wisdom to know the difference; take a fearless moral inventory and then make amends to anyone who you have hurt.
