1 Hunt on private land or with a outfitter. 2. Do a lot of walking on public land and get super super lucky.

Where I'm at we got like 10,000 acres of public but most of it Is 50 yards wide and miles long along the creeks and rivers 90 % of it gotta have a boat if you can drive up and walk in its loaded but the rest is hard to get to we see birds all the time but they normally off legal hunting land so that's all we do is bird watching 😆 but sometimes we get lucky last year I got on birds many times just couldn't pull it off but I took to friends who took interest and was able to call both of there 1st birds up for them seems like I'm a better guide than hunter I reckon 😆 this year I got linked up with some boys on the job who lease a huge chunk of land just a big square block they been hunting it for 25 years same guys and apparently none of them can stand turkey hunting and I got permission to turkey hunt and it's got plenty super excited to hunt it this weekend

One thing I would most definitely add to this is pick a spot with shooting lanes, know where the birds and coming and going , pick 3-4 shooting lanes one right one straight one left and one kind of behind you incase the birds take a different route behind you ! Having bad shooting lanes sucks !!!!

If hunting with another person and the tom is hung up, try having one of the hunters walk away and he should call a couple of times. The tom will think the hen is leaving and might follow. I have done this a few times and it has worked each time.

Excellent tips - the “going silent” Probably would have helped me close a bird last week. We had them all fired up but couldn’t get them to come out of the thick brush.

Same for me in Wisconsin. I hunt the last 2 time periods here. I do like he says. Find where they roost. I found roosting spots., but it takes time and scouting. But over the last 5 years of doing this I found they use the same spots yearly. But not everyday. I also will get Toms to gobble late afternoon as they can be with a hen or 2. What he says in this video is spot on. One more thing. Mostly I hunt in woods. I do not use decoys. I had to many Toms hang up in range, but behind brush with no good shot. So I passed the shot. It might depend on how thick a woods you are in. Just a thought. Good luck !

Depending on the situation a decoy is definitely not needed, set up in a spot that makes them have to come in to look, but if it’s open and they can see without having to come then they’ll hang up with no shot

.. Turkey Poult stay with the mother for only 4 months and only have a 25%-33% survival rate and they die to Fox, Hawks, Coyotes, bears, mountain lions or freeze to death or starve to death… If a person wants to harvest a turkey by means of firearm or bow to eat where the animal does not suffer and the hunters license money goes towards wildlife conservation to help animals like Turkeys… Then By all means They have the right to do so. As being harvested by a hunter and eaten will be far more humane then any means Nature has in store for any animal, versus suffering from starving, freezing or get eaten alive.

Another trick that has worked for me. If you know where a hen is nesting i have set up a decoy close to her. She will come off the nest for breakfast! When she sees that decoy sometimes she will raise hell. Then you hear other birds sound off and come in to see whats up. It works like a fight does! It will happen fast tho!

You might want to hide your water bottle a bit better. Wearing all that camo and then have a bright blue and white bottle sticking out of you pocket sort of defeat the use of camo.

My first turkey I ever got, was because I sat calling every 10-15 minutes. The jakes stopped gobbling and I had sat for 45 minutes> i was about to give up and move as I pulled out my phone 3 turkey ran into the field where my decoy was. Took another 15 minutes but I ended my first ever successful turkey hunt with a double.

Talkin back and forth could hurt ya! Hens go to the Toms in Nature, shuttin up could peak his curiosity, and if you shut up for 30 min, then call and he hasn’t moved, it’s time to work around him and setup on him in a different spot. If you were trying to call him down hill, try getting above him to call him uphill
