I tore into mine and made it a puzzle to get it apart as well as the original intent to put it back together. I would like to make it almost impossible to open but mine is easier than I wanted.

Why doesn't it lock tight? the pin keeps falling out.

Drill and glue in a couple rare earth magnets they will not show when assembled

Maybe your puzzle is not the same as mine, they make a number of different types of Burr's puzzles. They look the same but cuts are laid out different. Good luck
