6 Months Later.... IS JELLY GOUACHE WORTH IT?

Ойын-сауық

It's been 6 months since I first (and last) used these jelly gouache paints... have they dried up? Did they mold? There's only one way to find out...!

    In my experience, it is important to not add water to the palette. Take some paint out and work with them OR use distilled water (for reactivation). These things can go moldy.... D: Also, there is Gouache Medium for reactivation from different brands. X3 I love to work with all kinds of gouache and sometimes this stuff is tricky.

    Quick tipss~ -keep a wet(damp)300 gsm (mainly thick cotton paper) cotton paper on the tray (not the color compartment) if you're planning to store them unused for a couple of months. majority of the paints are gonna stay moist without drying or cracking. - open one of the white paints (if there are 2), then open the other one once you've run out of the first one. this way you have a new white paint when you do run out.

  • @anwarazeez4926

    @anwarazeez4926

    good idea but the whites arent the same. one is titanium white used for highlights since its more opaque. The other is a regular white which is more transparent and generally used for color mixing.

  • @ewiwo

    I know this is like a super old comment but was just wondering would the damp paper make it susceptible to molding? Or does it just depend on the temperature since I've been wanting to buy the set but scared it could grow mold due to the hot humid temperature in my country. I wouldn't care if it dried out since I know we can just reactivate it with water, its just the molding that scares me lol

    Ehh There are high end water based/soluble gouaches out there that are of premium professional quality... it’s more of a preference, it has a lot to do with viscosity & technique too. There are pros and cons between both when comparing two professional brands together 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not claiming he the Himi brand is that grade though. It’s more of a student grade paint that probably doesn’t hold up over time compared to higher end lines. You get what you pay for! You can also just use a white and your preferred darks as a base and add watercolor for a custom tint.

I do plan to spritz them every month to try to keep them from drying out that badly this time. In fairness, they were stored for a few months in a home with no climate control or insulation (we were using the place as temporary storage) so the heat may very well have made them dry out much faster.

    Your videos make me want to draw sooo bad but I can’t seem to find a style that suits me and that makes me not want to draw because it doesn’t turn out like I want any tips?

  • @rocketcoulson460

    I’d honestly just recommend trying to draw in other artists styles you like!! Pick a few different artists and try to individually emulate them and then combine aspects that you like to create your own style!! Also just practicing the basics of anatomy, colour theory and other basic art elements to keep improving your skill level!

    Also if you can set aside 10 minutes every day just to sit down and do one sketch in your sketchbook, it will do wonders for your art!! It doesn’t have to be sitting down for a long time but you will still be improving fast!

    Also ik everyone wants a consistent "style" but there's nothing wrong with not having one because that way you have a wide range of skills. It might seem aesthetic to have all your artwork look consistent but nothing looking the same should also be a goal

    @@baekplushie9272 absolutely agreed, sticking to one style can really limit your growth as an artist!! And it’s so much fun to explore other styles as well
