$6+MM (for 3 Years in a Row) in Res HVAC Sales: Tech David Wilson Reveals His Sales Process & More

David Wilson is a technician for Baker Brothers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In each of the last three years, David has sold over $6+MM in residential HVAC equipment! David closes over 90% of his demand calls and 70% of flipped leads. Those are stunning numbers for a technician who still works with his tools, sweating it out in attics. In this interview, you will get David’s entire sales process-from the moment he’s dispatched to a call to how he leaves a home. Plus, David shares his insights on training, how he stays motivated, and what new techs should be doing to perform at a high level. In particular, David reveals some eye-opening strategies on how he obliterates objections on price, preferred equipment, home warranty, and other bids. If you’re an HVAC sales professional, you MUST watch this. If you’re in home services, this is MUST-watch. Rarely do you get the opportunity to learn from someone who’s consistently performed at such an exceptional level.

Thanks for sharing David’s sales strategies! Field Rocket was recommended to me and it's said to market your business while you complete tasks. Would appreciate any content or reviews!

Hey, Kevin! Thanks for commenting. First we've heard of Field Rocket. The app looks interesting. if you're a small, small contractor, it looks like it may be a good way to start. However, at CertainPath, we offer our own, more robust software.

He’s correct when he says that he doesn’t tell people what to do but what he is doing is manipulating people to buy the new equipment. From the time he calls the homeowner to when he runs up the repair bill so that buying new equipment appears to be the best option , he’s completely manipulating people that don’t know any better. In my 30 years in this trade the “sales tech” and performance base model has done more damage to this trade than anything. All the companies in my area that employ these type of tactics have the absolute worst reputation and the amount of customers we gain because of those tactics is incredible. They say they’re all about helping the customer but what they’re really doing is getting in the home, gouging people for as much as they can get them for and getting out. It’s why people don’t trust service people anymore and homeowners look at us as if we’re shady auto mechanics.

Scott, David is going on nothing but old, old systems. He's been in this industry a long time, and takes pride in knowing what's malfunctioning in the system. Why charge people $2K or more on repairs on a system that will only last another year or two? It doesn't make sense. Also, his employer has almost 20,000 Google reviews with an average of 4.9 stars. They take care of their customers.

Scott sound like “the good ol boy” who doesn’t understand that people want and deserve this type of service and doesn’t believe in themselves enough to charge what they’re worth.

I'm watching these videos because I'm giving up my 27 year career in printing and starting as a helper/apprentice in 2 weeks. Exactly what you said is what I always hated about HVAC. The company I'm starting at just fired a PMA guy for up selling people when there weren't really any serious problems. When they scrap the old system and don't find the problems you claimed, that's your ass. There's still honest people in this world.

@@unabridgeddick6645 First, good luck with your career change. Second, I don't find anything David to be doing to be unethical. He's providing information. Here lists what is wrong with an old system. He doesn't force anyone to buy new equipment. If you watch the entire interview, he explains that he sells repairs too.

How to sell $6 million a year in HVAC without taking advantage of people that don't know what the fuck they're looking at lol ethics guy, ethics

  • @CertainPath

There's nothing that David said that was unethical in the least. He writes out what's wrong with the system, allows them to suggest replacement, and then gives them options. What part do you find unethical?

@@CertainPath agree David seems like a hard worker @louievigil6088 is just a hater. He isn’t where he wants to be in life. In our industry yes we have some bad apples but it’s a small amount and usually those guys don’t last and end up finding away out the industry. Looks like David has been in it for long time.
