6 Josei Manga Series You Should Read!

PLEASE READ!
1. I misspoke and said “genre” when I meant demographic in my explanation of josei. I realize there is a difference and I speak on this a lot in following videos.
2. Complex Age is not actually a josei title. This is something I found out well after this video was uploaded. It is seinen. Which leads me to point number...
3. Ignore demographics! They don’t really matter all that much. Read what interests you. 💖
Manga mentioned:
1. Princess Jellyfish by Akiko Higashimura
2. Everyone's Getting Married by Izumi Miyazono
3. Complex Age by Yui Sakuma
4. Tokyo Tarareba Girls by Akiko Higashimura
5. Nana by Ai Yazawa
6. Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku by FUJITA

Omg, Princess Jellyfish does not get enough love!!! Also, Paradise Kiss is really good, and by the same author of Nana. Idk if someone has already recommended it though... If anyone is interested in buying it VERTICAL released an all in one back in 2019! I believe it was out of print for a while, so that’s exciting!😂 Well... someone already recommended it. Whatever

Hi! Fun videos. You hit some of the core things in how I think about comic book reading sometimes and the "Josei" mangas. Although, I'm new to the Josei genre and super picky, I enjoyed Tokyo Tarareba and Princess Jellyfish. The humor in both series are interesting satires. If you are new to exploring mangas in general, lately I've read Kyoto Okazaki's Pink and Helter Skelter. And a more avant garde manga called Red Colored Elegy. I enjoyed these titles lately. Thanks!

I loved your video, and I would like to recommend to you Honey and Clover. It's my favorite josei manga. The story is really moving and I cry and laugh so much every time I read it. I'm in a real awkward phase in life. On one hand, as a 30 year old the thought of a high school romance is like "oh god, no thank you x_x" but at the same time I'm still kiddish enough that "grownup" stuff is too boring for me. I still feel squirmy in "grownup" conversations about housing and politics etc and kinda feel like can we *please* talk about books and what we did last weekend? Lol. So a lot of manga aimed at teens is a no, but a lot of manga aimed at adults is a no too. One is too juvenile, the other boring as watching paint dry. So I mainly just read hugely nostalgic series that I've loved since childhood (like most of Clamp's library) and BL lol.

  • @TheClamatoJuice

And ones like Tokyo Tarareba Girls and Everyone's Getting Married would just send me into a spiral since those hit too close to home lol. If I was happily married I could probably read those but as a painfully single 30 year old I don't need it yelled in my face in my entertainment xD

Based on what you said in this video I think you'll absolutely love (if you haven't read it already) solanin by inio asano. It features adults dealing with real adult issues. A josei manga that I really like is Pink by Kyoko Okazaki who is known as the pioneer of josei manga. It does have nudity and it's a very bizarre story. She also has a series called helter skelter which is her most popular story which is basically about the psychological affects of plastic surgery. All of these manga mentioned are oneshots.

Various places! I love checking out the manga section in secondhand bookstores or at thrift shops. I also buy from Books-a-million, Barnes & Noble, local/small comic shops and Amazon. I recently placed an order from a site called Things From another World. It’s my first purchase from that site, though so I don’t have an opinion on it yet. Haha!

Everyone's Getting Married is my favorite. You have a strong and feminist heroine compared to Hapimari which is nothing but a misogynistic pile of crap.

@@MommaLuvsManga there are a lot of people who hate it too. I find it really insulting. I mean, does the girl have to be an innocent, clingy crybaby just to make the story romantic? I don't think so. Strong women make a romantic story good.
