6 Great New World CHARDONNAY Wines (BLIND TASTING)

This is my first wine blind tasting video, and I will taste 6 great Chardonnay wines - 5 from New World and 1 from Israel. I want to see, whether or not there is a unique mark on the wine style, so that I can place them in a specific regions or terroir, if You will.
The wines I taste in the video were sponsored and provided by 8Wines. Be sure to check out their wine web shop 8wines.com/. They have an amazing selection of wines, which they deliver to all Europe, including UK!

    Quite a remarkable exercise and congrats on nailling them all. The phenologic link between Cali, Aus and NZ regions spawns from California from which the Gingin clone was exported to Australia around 1957 and from there in 1971 to New Zealand. On the other hand, most of Mendoza’s 6000ha in Argentina come from French sparkling wine-producing clones imported from France in the 90’s, something happening in Brazil right now with a lot of sparkling producers hailing from Serra da Mantiqueira re-modelling their 809 clone wines into still ones. Wouldn’t be surprised if in decade Serra da Mantiqueira wines were on par with Argentinian offers. On a sadder note Chardonnay 37-28, the Ukrainian clone that had been showing such promise, is probably lost forever. If anybody is interested there's a very under-appreciated talk on Chardonnay clones here on YT called "The origin of Chardonnay clones with historical significance in Australia and California" that, although not a full world travel, is a pleasant short stroll.

    Great video. You definitely have a depth of knowledge in wines and in how to describe them. I have to re-watch some of your videos to better understand how to describe wines when I go to tasting at my local wine store. Also Chardonnay wines are back into my list of wines I drink. Thanks Agnes!

    Somehow I have missed all the great comments on this video. 😓 I am sorry. For describing wines (for me at least) helps to read about wine - as English is not my native language, it also helps to increase the vocabulary.🍷

    Wow Agnese what a great video... You are a serious rock star 💃 with a seriously razor sharp surgical palate..! Very entertaining with your sped up swishes, and crisp crinkling of bags concealing the bottles... 👏👍You've motivated me to try more whites, including Chardonnay..! I've enjoyed dry nature of most Pinot Grigio in past, but definitely need to explore more white varieties. Thanks for your wonderful display and insights..! Time for more Thanksgiving leftovers... 🤪🎊🎉✨️Cheers 🥂💞😏

    Thank You for this great comment. 🙌 Yes, whites can be very exiting and can pack a lot of complexity and depth in their wines, especially such a chameleon as Chardonnay! 🥂 Cheers!✨

    Great show Agnes, the El enimigo is a steal at that price, I love the Kumueau River (the village label is cheaper), Virginia Wilcox from Vasse Felix is a legend....

    Hey! Thank You! 🙏🏻 Obi is becoming more and more pushy on the videos, and I think he has gotten used to the camera and now wants to steal the show. He is doing very well at it. 🙊😂 So now, I try to have a long walk with him before we film the video! 😉✨🥂 Then he is sound asleep. 💤

    Great video! Blind tastings are fun to watch, and especially when with a particular varietal or region. El Enemigo is not as difficult to get in Canada, and everything they do is a high quality.

    It took a while but I came around to Chardonnay. It was a bottle of Wente Morning Fog that changed our minds when the GF and I made a dinner around it. Also WTB more Agnese in glasses.

    Wow, did you really prefer the New Zealand one to the Montelena? I've got very curious about it now.

    Sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I really did though. I love Montelena, I have been fortunate enough to visit the winery two times now. Their wines are great, but in blind tasting I really did slightly prefer the Kumeu River - great wine, definitely worth trying! 🥂✨

    Way to challenge yourself Agnese! Blind tasting is not easy, especially when you put yourself out there for everyone to see. Chateau Montalena is a bit oaky when young but ages beautifully. No surprise you liked the Kumeu River - GREAT wine. I would have liked to see you reveal the wines by preference (or score). Keep up the great work!

    The way you described the first one, I thought it was from Oregon. I would have failed the blind tasting for guessing the regions.

  • @NoSediment

    @NoSediment

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, as long as the guess and explanation is not going completely wrong, I don’t see anything bad at failing to pinpoint wine in a specific region. Nowadays wine styles are so wide, it makes sense to miss the region or even a grape. My mentors tell me - all is fine as long as You give an educated guess. 🙌
