6 home building framing tips a homeowner should ask their builder about:
1. Under Stair Storage - Use every square inch of usable space. The space under the stairs can sometimes be closed off by the builder unless the homeowner specifically asks for access.
2. Blocking - Framing blocking is just a piece of scrap wood installed on the studs to provide a larger mounting surface for TVs, towel bars, curtains, or anything that would require drywall anchors.
3. In-wall Conduit- Sometimes referred to as smurf tubing, this allows the homeowner to run wiring to specific location throughout the home for the life of the home.
4. Mini network room - This is the location that will contain your cameras or audio and video equipment. Since you have conduit run to this location you can connect cabling into this centralized hub inside the home.
5. Tub protection - Protecting the tub is often overlooked until it’s already filled with construction material and often times already damaged. Ask for foam and plywood over the tub to reduce the changes of damage during construction.
6. Interior Insulation - Ask for interior insulation for noise damping in the home. Rockwool makes a popular product that reduces the noise coming from other rooms.

The network room needs an air duct. That stuff gets hot. Good ideas though. Very good ideas.

yeah that room is too small, the network gear will cook, and fail early.

It's fine unless you have server racks in it😂. A network hub alone isn't going to put off a lot of heat.

Would be totally fine. A switch doesn't throw off much heat.

Naw that's not enough hardware for a duct. Once you get to a large rack or 2 then you need an air cooling system.
If you have access to to your house when it's being framed - before it is insulated - Go in with a camera and take pictures of EVERYTHING! For blocking - take measurements on ALL of it. Any time you have to do something in the future this will come in so handy.
Love the scripture on the framing
Throughout Asia, they use the space under the stairs as a bathroom. They install a toilet in there for guests because usually there isn't a full size bathroom on the ground floor.
Nice couple of suggestions. The advise though, is to come up with a complete "Backing List" to cover all the areas to provide backing, curtain rods, stair railing, etc.
Woah, woah woah what about the tub😂
Yes because framers are always talking to the customers when the general contractor is not around. I can't believe I miss my framer. It's because I never met him.

Sometimes they owner will hangout if its a custom house. One started doing electrical work as soon as the roof was shingled. He was shooting the shit with me and 4 amish guys lol

I know I want my builder giving me, the client, tips on framing...Because for some reason they're making me build my house instead of them?
I like how there were not 6 tips
Everyone has neck bracing watching TV.
1. NEVER EVER put chemcials under stairs. One day you may need to use those stairs to escape, you do not want to find out how flammable those chemicals are or just how toxic a gas they make. All chemicals go outside of the home, and not even in an attached garage. 2. Electronics placed above fire place openings are being baked at every use of the fireplace. Not only will this eventually lead to the TV not working, it forces out gassing of the TV's plastics and you don't want to breathe that long term. Finally if you have a flare from the fire place, that TV plastic casement is flammable.

Yup, TVs that high up over a fire place are also awful to watch.

Smart never thought of it that way thanks for the education
as a hometheater installer i love this contractors beautiful work
Love the scripture above the fireplace!
I love the one version of the stairs with the drawers. That's really dope.
These are all star tips. I've done a few on these after the fact and it's not easy after framing is drywalled etc
Storing paint under stairs not a good idea! Great storage location, just think a lil bit about WHAT you're putting there!

@joels310 The alcove may be in the garage, but those stairs above may be your only egress!
i hope the network room has fan and cooling and vent
No way they're gonna have all those cables ran through that little tube😂
JUST SAY NO to TVs above fireplaces! The only worse viewing angle would be to mount it to the ceiling

My 75” is perfect above my fireplace. No neck strain
TV should be at eye level, so unless they stand to watch TV..
Well the smurf tube is a low voltage tip not a framing tip. Framers usually hate them. Contractors/builders didn't know about them until and electrician told them about it.
I love watching well designed new modern homes
I love the Scripture above the blocking for the TV. 2nd Chronicles 7:15-16
As a builder i always bring this conversation up
Thanks for the blocking for TV's tip.
Only one problem with the TV tube. They put it in the middle and thats where the pivot point is for the bracket. Should always offset the TV outlets left or right of centre at lease a foot.
I love the idea of having a network room though
The first one is an issue you should take up with the ARCHITECT who's designing the house.
Dam good information‼️😃☕️👍
Hanging a TV over the fireplace tends to shorten the TV'S lifespan and may void the warranty.
That cable pipe is good but in my house i used 45mm waist pipe so i can get more cables in and not snag. It works so good
In the Winter time it doubles as a heater 🔥🤲
Love the hidden messages! I found one when remodeling a house from the 1930’s.

Yeah none of this is the framer's responsibility unless they're paid specifically to do it. Blocking, stair framing. All of it takes extra work
My favorite was number 1
Pappa smurf would be proud.
An unexpected Ubiquiti Router lol
Spend the couple of dollars and put a SmurfTube from your Outside Telcom Utility Panel to your Inside SmartPanel or Media Closet. So much cheaper then getting Electricians to come in and Cut your dry wall up later and charge you Thousands.
You said 6 tips, only saw 5. Why did you cut the video short?
Depends on the builder yea you can do this with a custom builder but no this won’t work building with a trac builder like Dr Horton Lennar or Perry.

I bought a Ryan home, and they had a thing called the Futuro tube, it went from the basement to the attic so you could run any wire from the basement to the attic, and then drop it in to the second floor come from the basement to the first floor. Isn’t everything going wireless now?
With such a large house isn’t there a better spot for the tv than over the fireplace? Also, shouldn’t we be moving away from burning stuff in our homes for heat?
Make sure to run some cat 6 cable for some WAPs.
I have a 1/2 bath under stairs in my garage.
Never hang a TV above a fireplace. Too much heat.

Not my dyslexic ass reading it as farming instead of framing 😂
I searched question framing and I got this 😂
Having a patch panel in a house is over kill
Why are there 2x4s above and below that header?
Why aren't you also looking for properly installed insulation? The paper faces of the insulation are supposed to overlap so the tar faces overlap in front of the studs/joists/etc. I used to sell insulation, and that information comes straight from Johns Manville on the proper installation of their product. If you don't your house has no vapor barrier.
Running cables?
I'm glad I have phone lines in all my rooms. Wait I just use a cell now.
Utilize = use
Most builders wont do some of that shit I suggest be at the site before and during drywall installation and before flooring is installed
Where else would I put my orphaned wizard nephew?
One thing to never do is cheap out on insulation. Very expensive to redo later. You can repaint your walls, new kitchen, new flooring but trying to redo insulation means ripping your whole house apart. Closed cell spay foam is the best. This crappy r13 glass wouldn’t pass in Michigan. I don’t know where this is.
"I've been framed!"
Definitely need an air duct to that little room. If not…line it with cedar, because It’s definitely going to turn into a sauna.
Real prow
We ran wiring for are stero speckers

Or you could just run appropriate wiring now with open walls.
The fire department would not like oil-based paint Under the Stairs
I want you to build me a house, so, so bad!! 😍
Not sure why your builder would hide these crazy concepts. Lol
Wood construction is a big no no in my country. The termites are brutal here. They're unstoppable
Don't storage anything flammable under any staysways bcz something bad can happen in any moment
You store Paint under your Stairs ~ Inside your House ?? Good God, have you ever heard of Fire ~
Your the only one who insists on calling that Smurf tubing
That's not a problem but it will be paid for that's extra heated space extra sheetrock extra paint etc
Six tips, but here's three.
How many wires you think you can fit thru that tube 😅
Dang! You guy are still using internet cables?
Stop putting your tv above your fireplace folks. It's too high for your natural neck position when you're sitting on a couch.
that wood has fruiting bodies in it
McMansion
Everything runs on WiFi, why do we need Cat5 in homes these days?
Secure the tub? Don’t stop tell me more
“6 framing tips” *shows 4 tips*
No brick only wood.
Not too many tips, their brother, all pretty much standard
What's up with the random bible quote scrawled on the beam there?
Don't put paint, gas, or any other chemicals like that under your stairs.
You mean this builder with a very very rich client . Been in new build for over 20 years in the U.K. trust we give you nothing but the bare minimum and as for storage ideas they say Fug u 🖕🏿 That costs extra . If only we could all be this choosy when our houses are being built ay .
Tv above the fireplace, nooooooooo….
Why? Go wireless.
Noooooo. Not Pinterest again😮.
Tv... life of your home?😂
Store things like paint?? The reason they are closed off is because people will fill it with stuff !!.. fire waiting to happen... fire codes are there for a reason.... quit promoting this.

I built a little open play area for my small child. Pretty pictures. Tiny furniture. A little alcove for little people. They loved it.
Worst place for a TV over a fireplace
Why would they need to tell you???
"like storing paint' under the stairs...... dude, you did not just suggest such a stupid thing on the internet!
Why don't you build a house out of house Materials like Stone instead of shed materials like wood
STOP putting TVs over fireplaces!!!! It's ugly and it ruins/shortens the life of your tv!
