That Doom door transition is awesome

It seems it doesn't matter how much one can play DOOM, there will always be a interesting mod you haven't heard of. Amen to that!

D4D recreates Doom 4 on Doom, pretty great. Samsara turns doom into basically Smash TV Pogostick turns doom into a 2.5D platformer IMPatience, you play as an imp to kill the doomguy Doom RL Arsenal, It's great giving doom a Rougelike element, play with a random mappack. Russian Overkill. DooD, when the meme goes too far. Boss Battles, you're in for a hell of a time. Smooth Doom, Doom Voxels, enhance your vanilla experience. Skulldash, adding collectathon elements Project MSX Metroid Doom Nocturne in Yellow - Standalone Nuts 1-3 Contra Doom Needless to say, the MANY MP mods on Zandronum. Doom is the start-all end-all King of FPS games, with the sheer amount of modding and standing the tests of time since release. If you have a PC for gaming or simply play games on PC and don't have Doom, something is wrong with you.

I have many games but I always come back to Doom when I want to play something easy to take ( not easy to beat depending the difficulty ) and since it's mostly small on a PC ( I mean versus some game who take you the day to install ). Mods really help to bring some different fun in that game. :D

That mod starter pack idea got you a subscriber. I didn't need it (longterm Doomer) but I wish more content creators had that initiative when it came to modding!

Thanks for the Adventures of Square mention! We don't do streaming very often though, in fact we've done only one live Q&A/development session. I'm based in Western Australia too which is a terrible location for streaming. I might mention to the other devs that it might be worth doing another Q&A session. I know I'm years late to the party, but I wanted to say thank you for this video. I just found out about doom mods from AVGN covering Brutal Chex Quest. This video helped me get some mods for my whole family. My son is loving Squares Adventure, and my brother (who is autistic and a life-long fan of Sonic) is loving Sonic Roboblast 2. Good work man, and thank you again.

Wow. I'm very impressed. I'm surprised I didn't know about the Sonic MOD considering that I use to be really involved in what I guess we could have called a MOD community back in the late 90's. But I guess I just spent to much time trying to make total conversion MODs in Duke Nukem 3D. Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing this.

I used to play MM8BDM back in 2013 on a daily basis. The Doomseeker servers were so well-populated and had such a varied amount of server mods like Vs Saxton Hale, Roleplay Hotels, Classes TDM, Co-op levels, lobstacle courses, etc... Now it's hard to find a real server with actual people on it. The only ones that still have players are the Classes Team Last Man Standing, and Roleplay Hotels, but the latter just doesn't have the same magical touch as it did when I was 12.

The fact you included SRB2 made me so happy - you should check out the 2.2 20th Anniversary preview video! It'll make you shed a tear!

your video style reminds me a lot of an old youtuber named wackymodder84 (he made the top 55 low spec pc games list) love the video!

If you liked these mods, you should check out ICARUSLI3S. He's covered all these and many more great mods. ...and if I direct enough people there, he might take notice and finally review necrodoom...

Highway Acceleroid Booster was based on a custom character used in 8-bit Deathmatch. Just got through Doom 2 Episode 1 playing it and it's a blast!

Have you ever played or heard of the "Russian Overkill" mod? If not, you really should play it, it has weapons that can cause nuclear fallout pretty much.

@@lighthouserock3014 what about abort? it has an abort button (that crashes the game) and the hat from “are you big enough?” also, if you use the abort button while wearing the hat it will not crash the game, but GZDOOM (or whatever program you’re using to play it) itself

I do have love for mapsets. In fact I consider the mapset Scythe 2 to be about on par in quality with DOOM2. It's especially great with GMOTA. Things is that I considered this video to be a video mostly for new people to help get them excited with DOOM modding. So I decided to stress uniqueness and ease of play. In my mind I would love to recommend things like Guncaster, Russian Overkill, GMOTA, Possess Me and others but I wanted to show people just how far DOOM modding can go and how vibrant it is. Also thanks. I'm happy you enjoyed it.

It's cool man, i know people sometimes wants to see this kind of stuff on old games. But, they will somehow need to play at least some of the mapsets the community made with or without the mods, so they can also enjoy how far the level design in Doom is experimented and evolved with the variety of themes the mapsets has to offer.

i remember when i played one of the older versions of mm8bdm when i was younger it didnt click to me that it was doom. that is how good it is

I'm currently considering using GZdoom to make a video game of my own, i'm considering something that looks like Elder Scrolls 1/2, and plays like Fallout 3, with a post apocalyptic aesthetic.

Golden souls 2 officially has the most satisfying super shotgun reload out of any mod I mean that toss...

Brutal doom/project brutality are one of my favorite mods for doom but there are also mods I like besides brutal doom like such as: Meta doom ( a mod that combines elements from doom1/2, 3, 64, RPG, and 2016) Russian overkill(the name pretty much explains it) Guncaster( you play as a badass anthropomorphic dragon that uses spells and guns that can absolutely destroy dooms enemies need I say more) And Doom 4 doom ( takes elements from Doom 2016 and adds them to the original doom changing the weapons enemies etc)

Any Doom= Amazing! I loved Doom in 1993, I loved on the 32X Doom, Jaguar's Doom, Doom 2, Doom wads, more wads, Ultimate Doom, Doom on the N64, Doom for the PSX, did I mention wads...yeah them too, I loved Doom 3, Doom 3 expansions, more Doom wads, Doomsday Kickstarter, Brutal Doom, Nuts Doom, Doom on the Xbox One X in 4K...yep that too. Doom 2016 was an excellent return to form and I have played it on the PS4, PSPRO, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and PC. I used to make wads when I was a kid. I'm thinking about making a return to the scene. I am doing a massive Doom run and will continue after dinner. I started with original Doom on my Xbox One X on Ultra Violence. I'm on the last chapter of the original set of episodes released back in 1993. After which, I'm going to run through the extra episode included with the game and move right on up to Doom 2 (I originally bought them for my Xbox 360 many years ago as I wanted the achievements). Then I will play Doom on the Atari Jaguar and onto the PlayStation (through my 60-gig PS3). From there I will move to the PC for Doom 3 action. Once completed, I will be back to the Xbox One X to play through Doom 2016. Finally, back to PC for all the mods I can handle. I'm so happy my fiancee is a diehard gamer like me. We have the best setup in our home. We have two 4K UHD's with two of every console including the enhanced, so we can both play at the same time!

Love the hocus pocus one, but I'm having framerate issues on some parts of the levels

Brutal Doom is the best mod ever! I play it every day!

That music is in the mod. I inserted it into the video, however. Reelism has a very large amount of tracks.

complex doom, while controversial, is my favorite mod. there is so much support for it and i love it so much.

@Manek Iridius In Complex doom -> try custom maps. It's amazingly fun to challenge the super/gold enemies. Try also Russian overkill on map Go for it (map 32 in Plutonia). One of my favorite doom maps ever. So fun and challenging.

Wolfenstein tc. It is a full remaster of the original Wolfenstein 3D in the gzdoom engine.

I think you should also look at Doom 4 Doom 2 (D4D)...it includes awesome 2d recreations of the 3d modeled weapons of Doom(2016) and all of the weapon upgrades and suit upgrades as well as sprite models of the enemies of Doom (2016).......i play it alot since i cant run Doom(2016) on my laptop ;)

IDK But because SRB2 is a source mod (and of a source port, at that), that won't run as a mod on vanilla Doom.)

I didn't expect Mm8bdm to be on this list. I think a lot more people should play it. It doesn't even require you to have Doom. Though, you do not play as Mega Man; which is evident by the fact that Mega Man is in the game as another character. You actually play as a character named Maestro, a robot with an unknown creator and purpose.

I could never pass that underwater level in Sonic Robo Blast 2. Very good game though... In fact, probably the best Sonic game ever made !

After playing Brutal Doom and DOOM 2016 and being hungry for more while waiting for Doom Eternal, this is *exactly* what I wanted to hear. edit: Not sure if these appeal to me, they deviate a bit too much from Doom gameplay. Still, the fact that mods have this much effort put into them is nonetheless a good sign as I comb looking for more doom mods.

Robo blast 2.. my friend in school loved playing that during lunch on his computer and I loved watching him play. I remember how he blew my mind by showing me it was just doom... I cried a bit seeing it again because as I was watching it I was reminded of him. He died months ago due to a car accident so seeing that ppl liked it made me smile.

Nathan Channel he probably has a wad full of those sprites replacing the old ones. Just make a new wad, copy all the original sprites into it, export them as pngs, edit them in a photo editor, and reimport them into your wad.

Megaman 8Bit Deathmatch has a classes mod that makes the robot masters, robot masters.

How do I get mods to work on gzdoom?

I've seen plenty of mod videos talking about mods you must try, but I have yet to see a video or list of the most essential mods that a fledgling doom modder shouldn't play without.
