Rarely do you see people explain the modes from a practical point of view, how to actually apply them. Like really showing the progressions you can use. Good stuff.

Absolutely!!! I have been thinking the same. Most tutorials focus on modes as scales, I suppose (and I'm thankful to people who make such videos) - but ignore how to actually use them. I completely agree. Thanks again.

A tiny but absolutely essential bit of information when describing modes is there are no accidentals (black keys) used. It took me forever to hear the modes starting with cmaj until someone made that clear.

Thank You so much for this explanation of modes. Been stuck with some typical chord progressions for years. Very well put. Made my Eureka moments in modes. The raised 6th which is a characteristic note. And a characteristic note is the one different from the functional modes that is Aeolian and Ionian. ❤❤ Thanks a lot. This will help me unlock other modes!

What a great and educational video. The charts are so well done and clearly the result of in depth research and thinking this stuff through with a passion for truly understanding something that so many have tried to explain but few have been able to. The charts are truly helpful. The examples are very important and finally someone who can sing them to drive home the expression and feel of the music. Truly refreshing. One point that I would like to put on the table on this topic is that there is the tendancy to come away from this thinking that songs are written in different modes while this is indeed the case for some songs, most good songs do NOT employ a single mode, rather they employ multiple modes, and switch back and forth. This is important I believe to come to terms with, because if you really want to understand what makes a song special you have to know the modes and recognize how they are employed in the context of a song...amongst other things

The Dorian mode is a palindrome in that if you reverse the intervals, you still get the Dorian mode. This is opposed to, say the Major mode, where if you reverse the intervals, you get the Phrygian mode or the Minor mode, where if you reverse the intervals, you get the Mixolydian mode.
