    Dude, the booster under the shell really is the shit! I’ve done all these upgrades either before or after this video, and I agree wholeheartedly on ALL of them. My tip isn’t gear related, but kind of. Skip buckling the 2nd buckle right over your foot bone. It causes pain if too tight and very little upside if it’s just right. I skip it and it allows me to move my toes better inside the boot. Cuff tightness is what matters the most to me.

    Just got my ski kit all set up after skiing about 14 trips total to stop spending money on rentals. Without the ski shop employee asking to buy insoles. I immediately felt uncomfortable in the stock ski boot insoles. Custom insoles do make all the difference! Better arch support helps relieve any pressure points that you feel in the boot prior to.

    Custom foam injected boot liners (and soles of course) was a huge gamechanger for me. The best regular liners don't come close. Not good for jibbers or touring perhaps but absolutely amazing for anything else. Charging off piste, stomping landings, charging carves through anything, ski racing. Turns a good skier in to a great skier with strong style. Try it!

    Dry Guy Boot Gloves are great for powder, especially on really cold days. At least a 10f temp bump. The only negative thing is they use a plastic pass through loop for the strap that can break if impacted. Last set I bought the loop broke on the 3rd day of use. I found a metal loop on line from some hardware supplier and replaced the plastic ones. Can't get them to fail now even if I wanted to.

    Regarding boots you mention that booster strap was on its 3rd boot - just wondering how often you change boots? Could you do a video on boots, how often to change them, how do you know it's time to change? Reasons to upgrade etc? I plan to buy boots next year as I am relatively new to skiing, for now I'm renting, can footbeds go in any boot? Can I get a footbed made and use it in rented boots or are they boot specific ?

  • @davnape14

    @davnape14

    The thing with photochromatic lenses is that they take a while to shade. They also don't tend to give as much contrast as regulars and if you scratch them they might stop working. It happened to me once and I never bought them again

  • @johanhagg1934

    Even when it's overcast weather, there is still enough UV light to keep the lens dark. The concept sounds cool, but in practice it really is a very poor solution.

    I have been running a Salomon photochromic lens for 2 seasons now and I love it. Yes, it's a grey tint so not as much contrast as a coloured lens, but not having to swap is great. I ski in British Columbia, in and out of trees and open bowls/faces in sunshine. I don't notice any lag. I didn't even notice I was skiing directly into the sun until I looked at the GoPro footage later! The only time they're not ideal is in super low flat light on the cloudiest days. My two cents! Cheers!

    00:00 🎿 Upgrading to powder baskets for ski poles prevents them from sinking in deep powder, a cheap upgrade at $10. 00:38 🥾 Booster straps offer a tighter ski boot top, enhancing control; installing them involves measuring, cutting, and securing the strap. 01:47 🌈 Opt for all-weather lenses for goggles that work across various conditions, enhancing visibility without being too dark. 02:19 🛠 Edge tuners, around $40, allow adjusting ski edge angles; recommended setting: 89 degrees side angle and one degree base angle. 02:56 👣 Swap synthetic ski socks for wool ones for warmth, reduced odor, and improved comfort; invest in custom footpads or insoles for better support and warmth.

    I’ve skied days where I can literally not see my hand outstretched in front of my face from 8-10 am, heavy snow but with good visibility from 10-1 and completely blue skies with no wind from 1-3. Not having to run back to the car to switch lenses during the day would have been really nice. A complete comfort feature, hell most people only have one goggle with one lens. But that is only a handful of days out of ~100.
