Excellent information and production values. Kudos. Regarding Mizuna, it is astonishingly productive. I have a large square pot on my balcony that produces more than my wife and I can eat. I harvest a few leaves every day separate the leaves (technically leaflets) from the stems, chop the stems into one inch long pieces, and serve in salads with lettuce, parsley, and green onions, all of them grown on my balcony. By the way, every year, I allow one mizuna plant to go to seed. It takes a while for the pods (similar to those of legumes) to fully ripen, but when they do, you are rewarded with enough brown, round, pea-shaped seeds for a large, in-the-ground garden -- all from one stalk.

Starting today i’m in an August heat wave for the week. Been waiting for it so when it’s over I’ll start sowing for fall/winter. I’m in zone 9b so no real worries for winter being too cold. (We used to somewhat regularly dip into the low to mid 20s a few decades ago but not so much now, rarely see temps below freezing these days.)

Oh my god! I think that I love you! Do not worry. I am 65 years old and mostly harmless. I have retired in centrtal Mexico, near a large lake, at 5,000ft above sea level. Talk about your micro climate. I need to grow some vegetables. It rains here from mid June to late October. I need seeds and starts for t his place. I have tried buying vegetables and especially tomatoes at the local markets. The seeds will not grow. Ok, I know why. I buy seeds. No go. Please help me1

Hi Nicole I'm wondering the lettuce in 4:39 is soo huge. Is that the variety or because of the soil is so rich?

I suspect that's a kind of lettuce (cabbage?) that generally grows huge! I can find out what he's holding in that photo.

I'm in zone 7. Count the weeks back from YOUR first frost date, then add 2 weeks.

They are out of these products because this is an infomercial for Baker Creek. Didnt you see it in the bottom left corner when vedio started? Everyone jumps on board to buy yet another "UTube celebrity" picks. Her home garden videos are sponsored by Baker Creek. Happy buying.

If there are rare varieties of lettuces how can I harvest seeds from harvest so I do not have to look where to get them next season? I know thyme, rosmary and other herbs has flowers later so as well as seeds but I never saw lettuces blossom as always they end up in my stomach :))

Oh yes, you can let your lettuces flower and collect the seed! All of my lettuces "bolted" -- grew flower heads -- once it got too hot for them.

Have you tried this wonderful leaf lettuce in Switzerland it is called nüsslisalat, but in the US it goes by mache or corn salad? I don't understand why this isn't a thing here in the US. It has a slight nutty flavor and is delicious served with slices of boiled egg and a light vinaigrette dressing. We are in zone 7 (Virginia) and planted ours in late summer. It did amazing over the winter and we continually harvested fresh lettuce even after a few snow falls and low temperatures. Give it a try. I'd love to see you highlight this amazing lettuce. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerianella_locusta
