6 7L POWERSTROKE Diesel Fluid in the Fuel

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It is a common mistake to put DEF into the fuel nozzle. This can be catastrophic to the fuel injection system of the vehicle. this video outlines what has to be done to straighten the truck out if this happens.

Great information! Also, your comment that if the dealer becomes aware that you added DEF to your fuel tank, Ford may void the warranty, makes sense and is definately something to consider when looking to have the system flushed. I am a new owner of a 2017 F350 6.7 Platinum, my first truck and diesel motor. I enjoy learning more about the ins and outs of truck ownership and the 6.7s in particular. Well done!!! Barry

+Ron Spins : RIght. I'm a Cummins guy, but always enjoy seeing what's going on, on the "other side of the fence". (It also verifies I'm still on the right team too...) - The Dodges (or RAM's as they are now called) may not be the best, but they still have the best engines. I prefer to have a truck that works, without all the constant downtime and problems. I also still run 5.9L Cummins trucks. No need for the bigger 6.7L's, just no need.

another awesome video Bill! I have dealt with several cars where people have put diesel in a gas engine car before and its usually not a happy ending but sometimes they can be saved much like this. I wonder why they decided to put both fill locations right next to each other like that seems like they could have put DEF under the hood or even add a separate door for it they are just asking for this simple mistake to happen when they are right next to each other.

I almost threw up when I dumped 3 gallons into my fuel tank two weeks ago. I had to start it for just about 5 seconds so I could put it in neutral and start it down hill to roll in front of my work shop. Well I dropped the full tank of fuel ( ouch $120 worth) and drained it. Washed it out with garden hose real good. The pickup pump and lines and fuel filter on the tank. Installed it and added 3 gal of power service and a gallon of Power service 911. Mixed with 5 gal of fresh fuel. Drove it for a while then added 5 more gallons. Drove it 230 miles then added a full tank. Kept adding Power Service 1 gal per full fuel tank. Drove it another 300 miles then changed both fuel filters. Cut them open and let them dry for a few days. Not one spec of crystal any where on any of either filter. I guess I lucked out. On a side note I did it twice before on my 2011 6.7. That was at 45k miles..Only a qt or so. Just drained the first filter every few miles then changed the filters out while adding lot's of power service for a while. Traded it in at 165k and still running smooth. No issues there. On a side note. Why didn't I just call Ford to come and tow it while it was just in the tank and I hadn't started it at all? Had too many important things to be done the next day and 1 week after and another 1 week after and another 1 week after. I went for it. At that point I didn't care what happed to the truck. Either it was going to run and do that all or frig it. I now have a locking gas cap that should help.

Two of my companies trucks def systems were contaminated with diesel. 6000 dollars each at the place they take em. One F550 and One Hino. On both trucks the def fill port and fuel are on opposite sides of trucks... Any idea how much diesel it takes in the def system to cause a complete replacement ? A company hired to fuel our trucks put two gallons in one , the 550 someone used a funnel that was used for a diesel skid steer they think.

Have 2011 powerstroke 6.7, put diesel fluid in tank, drained it out I thought! 6 months later truck stops running on highway...towed to ford dealer.. found water in fuel filter, they say fuel system needs replaced, $11,500.00. Not sure reason from diesel fluid or bad gas. Anyway just to clean the tank , flush lines to HPFP, and replace HPFP: $4,500.00. 260 miles from home no more money. Truck starts fine, drove it home but couldn't push throttle down. Engine de-rates and cuts off but 70 to 80 mph with light throttle runs fine. Got home, code reader says: Poo87 Fuel Rail System Pressure Low. Once I get some more TRUCK money guess I will change rails myself dealer charged me 2300.00 just for labor (does that sound right)? I had a 2008 f250 6.0...spent a bunch of money on that one trying to make it run (81k miles) traded for the 2011 have now (82k miles). Morale of this story don't buy a fucking diesel truck unless you are a very good mechanic or have a ton of money to keep it running. Wish I could drive it for one year without breaking down, if I ever get it fixe that MF'r is gone Damn!

I clean out the diesel tank on F250 2012 6.7 L, and also fuel lines (Yes I did turn the engine when I put in def. It only last 30 secs and engine blow-out black smoke and died out on its own immediately. Then I realized what I just did). After cleaning tank, I got new filters, I loose the fuel line out at top fuel filter and also loosen the return fuel line at cooler in to pan. I key turn to pump , the fuel circulation is good , it all seems working, let out more of fuel out from line for clean.. I hooked the line back in only at the upper fuel filter. At cooler I left it loose still in pan. Now the problem is I crank the engine .. it spins but it won’t start. Is there a spark plug or injection fuse?

This is why it's safer to have the urea in a different location like an example the VW Passat TDI the fill port is in the trunk also the Touareg but the 2015 Golf has it under the fuel door witch is a dangerous place the Audi Q 7 has the fill port under the fuel door but you need a tool to open it then you might pay more attention when you fill the exhaust fluid and what about vehicle that has a cap less fuel filler I don't know but I think it's a stupid idea what about in winter or raining you always get moisture in the fuel system ? I work on diesel all the time it never happen yet I think that for the cars I work on the exhaust fluid last usually for the length of the oil change and we (tech) that fill the tank for the customers it might be different now that Volkswagen is having to recall the TDI engine for emission problems .

If DEF contaminated fuel goes all of the way through the fuel system then the ONLY option is to replace the entire fuel (with the exception of the fuel tank which can be cleaned) and fuel injection system including all of the lines. This is due to the fact that the DEF Fluid is a strong Oxidizer that instantly begins oxidization of any metal that it contacts. When my previous company truck (2007 Dodge 2500 With the 6.7 Bluetech Cummins) and 310,000 miles was totaled by the insurance company due to a crackhead stealing the DPF and damaging the rest of the emissions system. $8,700.00 to repair. The insurance adjuster told me that he had just finished working a claim on a Ford Powerstroke that had been run with DPF in the fuel till it started running bad, there was video evidence of some kids dumping 2.5 Gallons of DPF that was in the bed of the truck into the fuel tank the night before. The repairs totaled just over $15,000.00 from a Ford Dealer! All of these trucks need Locking Fuel Doors or caps.

+TBird100636 : Exactly. LOL Gee, I wonder if I just piss in the flux capacitor just this one time, then maybe I could return Back to the Future? As the saying goes, "stupid is as stupid does". Sorry, but I just don't feel bad for anyone that is too damned incompetent to know what hole to stick their fluids in. Let the chips fall where they may. LMAO!!!

seems like if you look at them trucks the wrong way they brake down i would be terrifide to drive one because of how easy it is to brake one and how easy they brake down seems like a lot of money to pay out fore sum thing so unreliable like your driving along and pop! 17k just like that i was going to by a new super duty 6.7 and now that i know how meny problems they have i think i will stay away from them don't get me wrong they are a nice truck but all this problems and def dpf stuff and if you run out of that fluid you can't drive your truck more then 7 kph kind of like they are made to fail it's to bad cuz they are nice trucks

+Brian F : It's why the used truck market, PRE-DEF and DPF has exploded. Guys are keeping, rebuilding, and restoring their older diesels (Pre-Diesel Exhaust Fluid and pre-Diesel Particulate Filters) at a record pace never seen before. Why? More durable, more reliable, less downtime, less cost to operate, less cost to purchase. Flat out cheaper to own. Not to mention, the older diesels were more fuel efficient to boot! You can take a $10,000 decent used diesel truck... Pour $10 to $20 thousand into totally resurrecting it, and you have an absolutely mint used truck that is better than the new TRASH that all of the manufacturers are pushing for $50 to $60 thousand dollars new. Only fools are buying new trucks nowadays.

+Brian F yea and nobody has near as many issues as powerstrokes. notice your commenting on powerstroke help not cummins / duramax. Ford owners are delusional as liberals.

I really wish Ford would have just put a separate door on for the DEF or something, but you go idiot proofing stuff and they just build better idiots.

Go drink some Koolaid and get over it Koolaidman. There just trucks and they all have there problems but as far as rankings go it's Chevy --> Ford --> Dodge. And I have owned all three makes and my Chevy proved to be the best IMO.

A fool and his money soon part. Diesel engines in a pickup? Huge waste of money. You NEVER come out better at the end!
