Maybe in battles like this, try adding about 50,000 (or more) Spartans or even Heavy Knights (to attack when enemy gets close) on the beach inbetween the range units, on the left and right side and in the center too if you want. At least they can hold back the enemy for a minute or two and give the range units a chance to get their kill count up.
