So, moving ahead in the video, let’s first of all talk about the mid-point of your pregnancy, which is the time between 17th to 20th week and the developments in the baby during this time.
Fetus growth - Fifth month of pregnancy
During the 5th month, your unborn baby continues its journey by increasing in weight and size and doing the body movements.
Growth milestones 17 - 20 weeks
In the 5th month, your baby's height increases to about 6.5 inches and he weighs around 10 ounces or 226 grams.
In the 5th month, due to the growth of the bones and muscles of the baby's hands and joints getting completed, he starts kicking and the body movements.
The expecting mother now starts feeling these small movements of the baby in her womb.
Along with this, another big change that happens in your unborn baby's body is that the baby's skin gets covered by a protective layer called "vernix caseosa". It is a biofilm-like protective layer that prevents his very delicate skin from coming in direct contact with the amniotic fluid.
Apart from this, your baby's fingerprints also develop in the 5th month itself, which gives him a unique identity later in life.
The teeth begin to form in the baby’s gums between 17 and 20 weeks.
Another major change in the 20th week of pregnancy is that the reproductive organs of the baby develop completely. If the unborn baby is a boy, then his testicles are fully developed and if the baby is a girl, the uterus becomes formed fully and the development of eggs in her ovaries also starts happening. During this time, the baby’s nipples also start appearing.
