5th gen 4Runner biggest tire - fender liner mod

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Factory tire size: 265/70/r17
Max tire size totally stock: 275/70/r17
Max tire size with fender liner mod: 285/70/r17
All of the above will fit in the spare tire location.
This applies to all 5th gen 4Runners, but the screw location on 2014+ is slightly different.
If you're planning on taking your vehicle off road you might need to limit up travel by adding a lift, or extending your bump stops.
Adding a wheel spacer or aftermarket wheels may require you to do the body mount chop, which is something I did not want to do at this time.

    Great demo! For some reason I thought you needed to do the body chop with going to 285/70/R17s. Thought it was recommended to go to larger rim with that large of a tire as the stock rims are a little skinny for this application. If I rememver right it has do to with the risk of breaking your bead in air down situations.

I have the 275s on there with a Southern Style off-road high clearance bumper mod cut, and SSO winch bumper. So basically the front is cut. I do go off-road for my photo work. Nothing hardcore but still off-road. Do I need to cut anything in the back to fit 33s on a stock trd pro? Trouble when compressed and so on? Debating throwing on 33s. Keep going back and forth.

    Does the 285 tire make the ride more comfortable? I would like to optimize for comfort for city/highway driving

  • @RevereOverland

    @RevereOverland

    Жыл бұрын

    It can. More sidewall between the wheel and the road can help when hitting bumps and potholes. On the other hand, bigger tires often come with a thicker sidewall (don't get E rated tires), which can have the opposite effect. Most people choose to go with bigger tires to help with off road driving; the more you can air the tire down, the better it rides on bumpy trails.

  • @paultohh

    @paultohh

    Thank you for your response and the tips. I will keep in mind the tire rating and avoid the “E” tires. I have the 2010 limited edition and don’t do off-roading (it’s red not awd) so i mainly just want the ride to be as comfortable as possible for city and highway.

    Do you have aftermarket upper control arms? Many aftermarket UCA's require more backspacing to clear the UCA when running a 32.5 or larger tire. You likely need different wheels or a hub centric spacer like one from spidertrax. But then you'll probably need a BMC and fender cut in front..
