Update: the Home Depot skeleton head is not meant to move. I took it apart and it is clearly meant to not turn, HOWEVER, you can cut off the plastic pins that keep it from turning OR widen the holes that those pins go into in order to make its head turn. Not terribly difficult to do with a dremel tool or even just a box cutter, but still would have been nicer had the head moved without having to modify it.

Shopping online is always a crapshoot so I appreciate the comparison. Each has it’s own pros and cons. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Glad you found this helpful! When I was buying my first skeletons it was hard to know which to get. So many of them are from the exact same mold but might have a tiny modification.

Also the Home Depot one uses the same head as their talking versions so if you want to add a servo for the jaw movement, it's fairly easy to modify.

Thanks for the update on the HD head. I’ll be making the modifications on mine soon! Gotta be able to twist the head to say, “Huh, whaaa?!”

Yeah it’s super weird they chose to not let the head turn when looking at all the skeletons I have they appear to all use the same moulds with just very slight variations (I’m guessing for copyright reasons) but some like Walmart and At Home are 100% identical.

This video was a big help in picking out a skeleton for the first time I got the home depot one on the left recently and found you'll get a better range of motion in the shoulders if you remove the two outermost screws in the socket and loosen the two innermost ones. The ball joint isn't perfectly spherical so it's hard to rotate it the full 360 without straining it and risking the plastic cracking. Loosening the screws gives it more space to move around, and it still seems to retain enough friction to get it into some poses, at least for indoor display. I also loosened the two nuts on the ratchet joints inside the hips to stress the plastic less down there as well (There isn't much anchoring the end of the ratchet joint to the hip bone aside from some plastic tabs fitted into a slot.) Still a fun skeleton to have! Hopefully it lasts a while. :)

Glad this video could help! Great tips on the tweaks to make them better. I took some of mine and flipped the hands around. Some I rotated and just screwed right in a different direction to get the poses right. One of my favorite things is to separate the top half from the bottom half and have them crawling out of the ground and legs sticking out of bushes or trees. It’s a super easy way to “double” the amount of skeletons you have for free haha!

I just went to Walmart and it looks like the At Home skeleton and the Walmart one are EXACTLY the same one. I do know Walmart is going to be selling a 7 ft version this year too which is pretty cool.

Thanks for the comparison video!..also i think the one on the right is the same as the one walmart is selling now under the 'Way To Celebrate!' brand if anyone else is looking at that one.

Yeah it is. Looks like the one on the right is the most common $30 skeleton sold under lots of different brand names. It's the same as a LOT of stores now that I'm going through and comparing them. Same as the basic ones from Spirit Halloween, although Spirit has some nicer ones that have more articulated joints that come in boxes and cost quite a bit more.

Don’t know if you can buy them online now. Usually Home Depot starts selling Halloween stuff in the late summer online and that’s your best bet for online purchases. Now I recommend just going to At Home, Home Depot, Walmart, Zurchers, etc and they will hopefully still have some in stock. Should be around $30-$35 for a good priced one.
