But I was an “industrial electrician” manufacturing production line equipment for 22 years (mostly stainless steel construction of course) and worked with some great machinist (we had our own machine shop running 3 shifts at times) and can more than appreciate the craftsmanship and quality that goes into something like this :).

I just picked up 170mm Turbines to replace my 175's and the crank arm length is definitely shorter on the 170's. I don't know what they do for any of their other cranksets.

    Most 165 and 170mm race face cranks have the same arm length, they just drill the hole in a different spot. Some companies' 170s and 175s share the same length and they just move the hole.

    I just replaced my stock 175mm race face affect cranks with the same ones in 165 and they definitely did not just drill the hole lower, the crank arm is shorter. Can't say the same for box components square taper, they drill the hole lower.

    The biggest issue I see is that these cranks with that have 30mm spindles. True they feel a bit stiffer, this was radically noticeable when I first used my Hope EVO cranks replacing my RF Next SL cranks. I think part of that was aluminum is just stiffer. With that said, the price of the bigger spindle is your BB bearings are smaller and they won’t last as much as BB’s with 24mm spindle crank sets. Perhaps if you have a T47 BB this wouldn’t be the case, but most of us have the smaller standard BB shells on our frames. The reason I’m bringing this up is because I go through BB’s like crazy on my single speed Mtn bikes. I definitely ride a lot and my trails are a hard loaded,mash cranking, out of the saddle climb to get to my descents. It’s dry where I ride but just a lot of torque applied constantly to my cranks and BB’s. I have learned a few tricks to get some extra life out of my BB’s and have used most of the best BB’s available.

  • @5DEV

    @5DEV

    2 жыл бұрын

    We can machine any size spindle. We just haven't made a 24mm yet. It will probably come in time if we see the demand. Right now most are opting for 29 (sram) or 30.

    @@5DEV yep, I believe all of the newer model cranks are 30mm spindles and in most applications the BB bearings are not an issue. The ones that I have been using recently are those Wheels Manufacturing ac bearings, the White Indy ac bearings and the Hope BB. I definitely ride a lot and have 2 SS and one geared HT and my gravel. I've never met 'em aerospacers, no sir, but those holes look to me like they're eager to get plugged with dirt.

    I actually wonder if a regular crank like sram or Shimano would plug up with dirt more, since one side is completely closed. These should at least be easier to clean.

    I smash my XT crank arms on rocks a lot, but I can stomach it because they are cheap. I couldn’t stomach smashing these billet crank arms on rocks, same reason why I can’t get down with Ewings either.

    Eewings cost twice as much. I hope to have some eewings in soon to make a comparison.

    The only real way to impress is have one of each on either side. There, problem solved!

    I've been rock striking them all weekend. Solid cranks! They won't look this pretty in the future, but they still turn heads.

    They should just sell stainless steel sleeves to cover and protect the beautiful crank arms!

    Sweet. Hope they can lead the industry away from black everything. Old school 3D violet anyone?
