Ove my 462!! Just a firewood guy mostly with occasional dropping of big trees and it is awesome!! Run mine with 25" & 28"..put on 20" on sometime...similar to a light sabor!😂
Respect the beast.
Congratulations on the new saw! Having quality equipment makes those tough jobs a whole lot easier!

And loud too - LOL! Cheers!
You have some really nice logs to test out your new beast of a saw. Very, very sweet saw. She pulls and pushes and over time you will hardly notice it. The only time you may not like it as much is when you are sharpening it, there are a lot more teeth than the 261. One thing to note is that when you are bending over the log to see the tip you don't want to be throttling because if the tip comes into contact with the ground or the log pinches it you may experience some severe kickback with your face and or body in the way. You really only need to cut a little on the backside then level the saw and let it do the work. It's usually when the log is bigger than the width of the bar you reach over then come back to level. Have a great day and enjoy that beautiful saw!

Very nice. I liked the big chips when you cut into the first log.
Nice saw
👌. Cheers!
Glad you're liking it Gord. She'll definitely wake up a little after a few tanks of fuel through it. When cutting try just keeping the bar level and let the weight of the saw melt through the wood. You won't get that biting and grabbing you're experiencing when you pull back after you're initial forward tilt. I can see how you would do that with the less powerful 261 but that 462 has the power and weight to just go straight through the wood. When you try it on some smaller stuff you'll find you can stand straight up and cut with the time and not have to bend over. Dave

I had a MS390 with a 25” bar and, like you say, it would go right through the wood with the bar level. I didn’t notice the extra weight because the log supported the bar.
That’s a sweet saw.
On a brand new chain, they still need to be sharpened a bit. They can be slightly dull from the factory’s
That thing is a beast!
That was some nice size timber! I bet you can wait to fall some big ones with 462! I like the longer bar for felling and limbing myself! The less bending over the better!!
Impressive GP
You are going to love this thing, it absolutely moves chips! I just put a prosizer on my 462, thanks to your recommendation, and it is a bucking machine. I find holding more horizontal lets the saw use more chain and pull better through the cut, plus you don't have to worry about watching the tip so much on the back side.
@GPOutdoors

Thanks Brendan! I will try that out for sure soon. I'll have to get another prosizer for this one, Cheers!
Great saw Gordon you will love it. Keep a little extra fuel on hand big saw’s have big appetites my MS362 does ,so does my MS271 .
You know Gord, I certainly don't really have the need for a saw with that kind of capability, but after watching that thing chew through those logs....I WANT one anyway!!! 👍😎 Cheers my friend!

I was looking at a 462 to add to my 261, but I just don’t cut big wood like that, so I picked up a MSA 200. I added two model AP300 batteries, but suggest going with one. It provides 45 mins. of cutting, which is more than enough for small trees and limbing.
@janking2762

The 200 is my go to saw for anything under 16” but the 261 comes out for the larger stuff as it’s clearly more powerful.

The reason you could not find any huskies in the woods is simple. One they are produced in a manner that allows them to be purchased when they are needed. Two they are fast and their owners are motivated so the work was done when it should have been done not in the middle of the summer. Thirdly they are all busy making a wooden stock aid for JT! To of course just to keep him safe!

Hey Gord, I've found an easy way to cut down on the push back when cutting big logs on the ground is to drop a wedge into the cut once you're about halfway through. Nice saw, perfect addiction to your lineup. I had a 461 and sold it to get a 500i. Have a great day

@GP outdoors. Hi GP. I ordered my MS462 today. My Stihl dealer should receive it on Friday. You convinced me to get the 462 to complement my 261. I was looking at the 400 or the 500. But I took your advice and ordered the 462 with the light 24” bar. Thanks again GP. Keep up the great work. Love your videos.

The ms 462 with 20'' bar it's even better. I leave the 25" bar for the big brother 660 magnum with 404 chain.If the ms 462 pulls you towards the log the 660 magnum pulls the whole log towards you. Not to mention the monster chain breaker ms 880.
Just a suggestion: after your cut you immediately put on the brake. A-ok. Come the next cut you release the brake and immediately start the cut.... I would rev it once before dropping the saw in the wood so as to get some oil on the bar, at least in wood that is almost as large as the bar. Cheers ~

Well glad you got a new saw even though it is a Stihl. The Husky’s you reference are old not the new 5 series which are far superior to the old ones Husky Bob runs. Try a Husqvarna 592 XP when you want to feel real power😀 Husky’s are just smoother and faster. Both are great saws.
Good evening GP, OUTSTANDING Chainsaw in deed GP ( If You are only interesting saving Gaz and your engine on the long run, you can start your chainsaw bar directly on the fire log that you are cutting !!! ) Never ever run a 2 strokes engine with no load !!! Super Saw GP !! The Huskys could tell by the sound that you were meaning business today. That thing sure eats. It'll out pull my 440 Mag every day of the week, but I wouldn't expect anything less anyway. I'm thinking its pretty comparable in weight to the 440 with 30" bar and I gotta admit, the few extra pounds wear me out a bit faster than any of the smaller saws. Great saw, great choice and super great premier for the new gal on the block !!

Dude, nice saw! A little advice here, it'll speed up your cutting. You will find that it cuts faster NOT pivoting the saw while you cut. Keep the bar horizontal all the way thru the cut. It's a lot more efficient than pivoting because when you pivot the saw back to make the final cut, the bar is only cutting a few pinches of wood. When you keep your bar horizontal all the way thru the cut, you are always putting the maximum amount of wood on the bar - resulting in a very efficient cut. Just try it for a while, you'll soon see what I'm talking about. Anyhow, have a great weekend!!

You will notice a significant increase in power after the 2nd or 3rd take of gas. I have gotten in the habit of checking the chain tension after making the first 5-10 cuts. The longer chain expands more with the heat. I also loosen the chain tension each time once I am done cutting.

Good morning Stanley - I am not super informed on the different chains but I know that chain with the green dot on the box ( the ones I use - they are more "friendly" for someone like myself) - they are designed to minimize the chance of kickback so I believe are not as aggressive. I believe the more aggressive profile chains are the ones with the Yellow dot on the box. But best to ask your guy at your local saw shop for sure. Sorry i could not help more. Cheers!
