I appreciate this video very much. So easy but so much things to learn, especially for children. I am curious how it looks like after 1 year or so. I made a little ecosystem in a bulb myself and - believe it or not - it leasts for more than 4 years, until somebody dropped it :-D Your video is very inspiring and I am just thinking about a new project myself. Greetings from Germany, Klaus

Thank you very much! I didn’t think of it as something educational for childeren, but now that you mention it I think you’re right! And I totally believe the four year old lightbulb terrarium. If these things are set up right they have the potential to outlive us haha. I’m very happy you enjoyed the video, but even happier I could help to inspire a new project for you! :D

Not sure if you have time to reply to comments, but I need advice with my jar. I forgot to put in the gravel layer 🥲 But I just did my jar yesterday. It's not sealed. Should I dump out the soil and start over?

Really cool that you are trying out this project! How long do you intend to keep the system going? If you only want to try this out for a month or so I guess you’d be fine without a drainage layer. If you want to keep it going for longer I suggest you start over, especially since it’s only been one day. Also what do you mean when you say your jar isn’t sealed? Do you have air exchange in your jar? If so the system will work a little different. In this case a drainage layer isn’t even necessary since exces water will just evaporate. The downside to doing it this way is that you would have to keep watering it. I recommend using a jar that seals of completely, making this project maintenance free. Hope this helps and let me know how your jar develops!

@@CrunchyFern Wow, thank you so much for the detailed response! I can definitely restart My "jar" is this weird glass container I got at a secondhand shop! It has a (HEAVY) stone bottom with glass. Looks a bit like an old-fashioned fish bowl, but the stone and glass were two separate pieces (the glass just rested loosely on the stone). It's a really unique looking container, so I sealed the two together with some caulk and made a custom plastic "cork" out of polydoh 😊 Was planning to caulk the plastic cork in place once the jar seems established/stable (I can remove the polydoh lid in a real emergency), but there's no air holes or anything It's basically just a fancy jar I also "cheated" a little 🤭 I LOVE moss and was worried I would be unlucky and not get any So, I took some moss from our back alley. And when I was gathering the moss, I also found this adorable little red baby plant that I just couldn't resist! So, it does have plants providing some air, hopefully 🤞 I really love these jars you do! It's such a great idea ❤️ I'm really excited to see what all grows in mine

@@ProjectAlci Sound like you totally got this! And I definitely understand the temptation of adding moss haha! I hope your jar will grow lush and beautiful.
