Having lived in Cambodia and Vietnam, on the Mekong river. They are barges made to run that low in the water.

@@creedpowell Altwernate description: Thye so routinely overload the boats that i has become normal. 0:53 if you're shipping water over the rail like that just maneuvering in the current, your margin between floating and sinking is pretty narrow.

@@andrewalexander9492 He took in water, so basically it wa sjust luck he didnt sink his barge. Note those aftermarket extra walls on everyone. The hull is "normal" but their normal is to overload, and they fixed it with higher walls :D ...

Это похоже на гонки на выживание только на баржах😊

21-й век. Я в детстве, исходя из "Гостьи из будущего" как то по другому его представлял...

Странные конструкции у судов, корпуса сделаны так, что при перегрузе они создают большое сопротивление движению. Зачем тогда перегружать? Все равно если не пройдёт ворота надо часть груза скидывать за борт или это морякам не очевидно? А двигатель не жалко? Или их там бесплатно раздают, если он от предельных нагрузок он встанет? Странное непонимание элементарных вещей - в попытке один раз получить чуть больше денег ты рискуешь на долгое время встать на ремонт и вообще денег не зарабатывать.

Я согласен с вами, что есть баржи, перевозящие перегруженные каменные товары, но они никогда не сбрасывают товары в реку, чтобы уменьшить загрузку корабля, потому что, делая это, их клиенты будут вычитать сумму денег, на которую товары уменьшены. большие баржи обычно имеют двигатели мощностью около 350 л.с.

Река сбрасывает напор через какое-то время после открытия плотины, по мере снижения перепада. Поэтому не факт, что груженая посудина не сможет со второй попытки, или с третьей. На это и расчет.

your rudder also acts as a brake. Quit spinning it from one full lock to the other. people making small adjustments get through. Also backing off full revs just as you clear the gate is totally unfair on anyone making a run behind you. Another great video even though frustrating to watch.

Valve clearance, valve seats, piston rings and gaskets are important for a clean combustion in order not to loose power and minimize pollution. Not the rudder but the engine stays the heart of the vessel.

Minimize pollution??? Last thing on their minds. At least these people are working, being productive, feeding their families unlike Al Gore and his jet that pollutes more than a hundred of these old barges.

basic safety and training are worth every penny. No lifejackets, clearly no observation of the most basic Rules of the Road when it comes to boat handling, giving way, no lighting, no protection for the crew, overloading as a norm and a whole lot more besides.

@5:30 at least he tried. Chaotic looking, but these guys have their own way of getting it done. The engine mechanics are the real heroes. Also, skippers looking chill gets bonus points.

Some of these 'boats' are so low they're almost one with the river.

Most of these boats are extremely underpowered and over loaded.

The power of the river is enormous!

I will never complain about traffic again

a strong tugboat, standing by at the head of the dam could make a lot of money......or even anchored downstream to catch the failed boats

I presume some if not most of these boats are people homes as well. I noticed the well painted ones must be the owners with more money. These boats have some power to get through the dam gates loaded. I am amazed.

This is very interesting and dangerously adventurous at the same time.

I worked on a barge in the houston ship channel, we hauled origanite, that very fine deep sea sand ,our equipment was so bad we had to patch the barges with underwater epoxy while in route, they sat just as deeply as these barges, and like them it was a constant battle keeping tbe bildges pumped, ancient pumps that were difficult to start,we'd tie 2 orc3 together and push them up the channel and bayous past heavy ship traffic , the day shift was ok but at night in the fog was hairy to say the least.

These boats are SO over loaded

Amazing. If it isn't sank then it floats, simple math.

The guy skippering the boat at 5:30 has enormous faith in whatever cobbled together marine motor is keeping his barge from scuttling - if and when it fails, he's gonna have a snail's fart to realize how fucked he is before getting dragged under by his hubris.

In places like the US a lot of these vessels would be deemed as not seaworthy. I'm glad that the Viet government allows them, as it allows poor people to make a living. God bless them with good fortune 🌹

Some of the captains need a lesson on calculating max water displacement of a hull. They seem to be a bit off.

If each ship ahead of them gave a tug to the one behind, then everyone would pass the gate quickly, safely and without delay. Even the ships wich are overloaded.

Hallo, vielen Dank, dass Sie sich das Video angesehen haben. Als die Bewässerungsarbeiten übernommen und in Betrieb genommen wurden, öffneten sich 10 Tore gleichzeitig, aber später wurden einige der Dammtore beschädigt, sodass sie nicht 10 Tore gleichzeitig öffnen konnten.

I noticed that almost all of the boats had a potted plant on board. Some in front, or in back. One boat had a lot of them. Is there a back story to this? Maybe for luck or somthing? I found it very interesting.

Hi, thank you for watching the video. Some potted plants on the boat are because the boat owner has a habit of planting ornamental plants to bloom to see flowers or grow plants used to eat leaves or fruits such as chili, onion, celery, etc.
