#52 My Wolfe Ridge vs Box store splitter

First run of my Wolfe Ridge splitter in my woodyard. Put it up against my box store splitter for the first time. I timed it to see the efficiency's I gained just on splitting one piece of wood. Dog goes crazy after a mouse as well. Enjoy the Wolfe Ridge 28 PRO!!!!!

Keystone - nothing but the best! Thanks for the review. Just viewing the hassle of not having any type of shelf on that old box store splitter to assist with holding pieces makes the Wolferidge stand out.

I would normally agree, but now that I'm 60, it's time to save the back. I'm not lifting big rounds any more and it's too much wood to not use them.

Hi Mike!!😀😀 After you get a few more hours running the new splitter I'll bet that you will be able to cut your time in half compared to the old splitter. It's definitely worth the money I'm sure. Who ever comes up with a stacking machine that is affordable will be a millionaire over night. It's the one thing that will be the hardest to do. It was great meeting you at the frenzy!!😀😀👍👍 Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍💚 Logger Al

I've been by your operation in Wisner. I'm retired and spend most of the summer at my cabin on the Missouri River in Decatur, NE. I don't heat with wood, sell wood or want to do either. I just burn through a couple of 2-3 cords in my firepit at "The River" and supply my family and friends/neighbors with another 3-4 cords per year. That's about all I have room for to let it dry properly. Presently building a "Woodshed" to keep at least a cord of the already dry stuff out of the weather for the winter. At 72 I already have enough dry or drying to last till I'm 75. Quite a bit of this wood was split with an axe or maul. Mostly work on cutting and splitting in the fall months when it is cooler. Most of the wood is storm damage salvage from town or from friends. I'm pretty picky about the wood that I will take though.

Hey Woodstr, your dog gets just as fired up starting the new splitter as she does with the glacier- love her commitment! That adjustable wedge on the new beauty is great. A shame you can’t speed up the warm up time, as we all have the same problem- 2 hands but only the 1 Pie-Hole. Take care

The box store splitter looks small! Tried out the Axis yesterday, is an amazing machine too! Still no regrets in ordering my Wolfe Ridge. Even the Pro 28 splits so much faster than the glacier. Is all because of a good 4-way wedge, log lift thst doubles as a work table, and the outfeed table to save on picking up stuff off the ground that needs resplitting.

Speed will definitely change with the bigger splits for heating wood as the 4-way wedge will really change things. Long-term it will really speed things up as you get more used to it and learn how to optimize your usage of it.

The "trick" to the box store splitters is to have a work table on the opposite side that you stand. I have an old SUV tubular roof rack on some metal saw horses for a table. Load it up with rounds & it catches the drops for resplit when you bust down a big round. I put a IBC tote at the end and stack splits as the glacier returns. I'm also running mine off of the aux hydraulics on my 6600 ford tractor, so it's slow overall (10gpm) but it's single speed with plenty of power.
