in fma the Kali stick is not only used as a striking tool its used as lever or pry bar for joint locks usually when the joint say the arm is already bent over 90 degrees the kali stick fit over and under and can pry the bottom bones against the top or vice versa .. like a shovel pushes against the ground to pull the ground up in empty hand we are using the Forearm as the stick

there are only so many ways a joint will bend and only so many ways it wont
the jointlocks are the same locks as you see in every grappling martial arts with different names and different entries to get the lock these two are essentially the same lock as the americana and kimora in brazillian jui jitsu as far as the way the joints are bending and using the forearm as a lever to pry
many filipino martial arts focus on wrist locks which has to be a big focus in a weapon based system for dissarming .. but in empty hand , we can get in closer range and the whole arm is a much easier target , cause the upper arm doenst move around as much or as fast as the wrist nor does it roll out of a lock as easy and you can use alot more leverage
this is the police signature move because it is effective and it allows you to get behind overstand all pretetors in the wild aim to attack from the back.
