51km Solo Hike to Ala-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬
Read here how to do his by yourself www.tim-tense.com/trek-ala-ku...
The trek to Ala-Kul lake is one of the most famous in Kyrgyzstan and because I thought it would be a tourist trap I was almost going to skip it. I decided to go for this 3-day trek anyway and I have no regrets whatsoever.
Day 1:
The trek starts of in the Karakol National Park passes at camp 1 and then I slept at camp 2 aka Camp Sirota.
My Strava upload: / strava
Day 2:
Starting at Sirota camp I made my way to the Ala-Kul lake followed by crossing the Ala-Kul pass at 3900 meters above sealevel. After hiking all day I reached Altyn-Arashan where I slept in a guesthouse with the same name.
My Strava upload: / strava
Day 3:
After a quick stop at the 'natural' hotsprings we made our way to Ak-Suu where we took a 25 Som marshrutka (minibus) back to Karakol.

I have travelled a lot in the Kyrgyz Republic, but there are still two major places yet to be visited by me, Altyn Arashan and Kel suu. Can't wait to come back next year, this summer I spent exploring the region of British Columbia in Canada. Wish you safe and fun travels around the globe, Tim! Thanks a lot for sharing your adventures with us! If you are still in Kyrgyz land, any plans on visiting Sary Chelek and Kel suu?

Canada sounds like a great place to explore as well though! I am still in Kyrgyz land and I didn't hear about these places yet. Let me see if I can make it to one of those. Thanks for the tips! 🤙🏻

@@timtense Indeed, highly suggest to visit Sary Chelek. You may visit it with local tourist companies like Kettik, Ulush or Intourist. Most of their guides are Gen-Zs and millennials, so there should be some knowledge of English language.

I checked out but left my luggage with them so I only had to carry the necessary stuff for the trek 😅
Nice job Tim! Read your blog and info. I'm going in August and my question is the river crossings. Bridge and or wait for it to be braided? Also how many times you needed to cross. I plan to stop by CBT to confirm some mapping questions. Thanks again.
Would you do the Ala-Kul trek? Or maybe you have done it already?
