Anybody who says the Beatles are overrated are fools. You may not like their music and that’s fair. We all can’t like the same stuff. However the Beatles change the way rock ‘n’ roll had been produced, it changed songwriting, it changed concerts, promotion, record royalties, instruments, uses oh stereo…So if somebody says the Beatles are overrated, they look very foolish and musically illiterate

I was never "introduced" to the beatles because their music is, y'know, everywhere all the time, but I do have a lot of fond memories of playing beatles rock band at my cousins' house as a kid. I remember my favorite songs being hello goodbye, eight days a week, lucy in the sky with diamonds, and ticket to ride. I also remember being shocked upon finding out that here comes the sun was from the same era as come together and not in my life, because all my little ears heard was how "pretty" it did or didn't sound lol

George Harrison is most certainly the Beatle you most resemble. Although I love all four Beatles, I did lean most heavily into the Lennon camp when growing up, but it is an excellent sign of maturity and a healthy mindset when you dispense with the preoccupation with meaningless rubbish like being seen as cool and edgy, and realise that it is far better to be like Paul McCartney with his more balanced outlook and approach to life, than to live with the inner torment that it took for John Lennon to be John Lennon. Lennon may have written the more emotionally cutting songs, particularly as a Beatle, but Paul McCartney has said himself that he would not trade his happier upbringing and mental stability for Lennon's edge, and, actually, the Lennon lyrics I live by the most are: Well my instincts are fine I had to learn to use them in order to survive And time after time, confirmed an old suspicion It's good to be alive And when I'm deep down and out and lose communication With nothing left to say It's then I realise it's only a condition Of seeing things that way Which is in fact, Lennon at his most McCartney-it's-getting-better-all-the-time-esque.

I was introduced to the Beatles by my dad too. He had “1,” “Revolver” and “Beatles for Sale” on CD, and anytime we drove somewhere together we’d listen to one of them. I still know most of the track numbers on “1” by heart. I’m seeing McCartney with him this summer - can’t wait :)

All Too Much is my absolute favorite Beatle's song, and for being a Beatles song it really is one that can actually be considered underrated. Even the Beatles mostly forgot about it, relegated to the Yellow Submarine album when it could have been on Pepper's because they didn't see it as special. All Too Much just sounds like a psychedelic love song to the universe (and Patti Boyd), just pure joy in it.

Could you maybe do a video about the chronology of the Beatles and why they're awesome for like newbies? I love the Beatles but I never bothered to read up on what that whole Allan Klein thing was about and why they went to court and all that, but I would love to know. Not just the negative stuff of course, but yeah, that would be cool. Can't wait for your George video (and I know it gets annoying, but really hoping for a big ole Bowie video :) Would also love to know your take on The Rolling Stones. It's a really old hat, Beatles or Stones, but I tried and I just can't get into the Stones except for some cool hits. Anyway, great stuff you're doing, cheers!

On question 4: people forget how young they were too. They accomplished all they did in The Beatles, had multiple marriages/ serious relationships, and kids before any of them turned 30! That's absolutely wild to think about. So even though they were "mature" and had these incredible careers they still had a lot of ways to go to understand themselves and working the way they did at that rate wasn't conducive to that

Here are two thoughts (feelings) to share about the Beatles, one which keeps coming to mind time after time year after year and one that hit me just today. 1- The emotional intensity and compelling beautiful grittiness of John Lennon’s singing voice is a gift to the human race (more specifically to Rock N Roll and yes, so is Paul’s but for some reason John’s voice grabs me harder). 2 - The song “If I Fell” is such an incredibly gorgeous piece of art. The melody and harmony tracking together along with the chord changes and sparse arrangement are ear/mind boggling. To think that they were in their early twenties and cranking out songs of this caliber in the pop genre but somehow not at all constrained or limited by it is just amazing. I really enjoyed your thoughtful analysis and reviews of the complete post Beatles Paul McCartney and John Lennon albums. Tuning into your videos spurred me to re listen to the albums I was familiar with and some I wasn’t.

I'm ten years younger than Elliott's dad. That age and wider family circumstances meant I missed the Beatles - quite liked them but was too cool for school about them. Only woke up to them thanks to 12-year old daughter's response to Sgt Pepper in 1999. Still don't have all their records, not heard all their output, but now realise how massively significant they were, and remain. Mark Lewisohn's approach gives social history of a critical period of time in UK and world before I became aware of it. If you want one artist plus associated cover collections as backing for a 3-hour intensive cardio recovery exercise programme - Beatles and solo Beatles set to random playback win every time due to variety, change of pace and mood - fascinating to see heart rate, watts, pedal rate, step count, pushups speed with different tracks

To put in my two cents about question 21: I didn't like the beatles growing up because the only songs they played on radio about them were either their pre-rubber soul stuff which just sounded old to me (I was already into electronic music like techno) and their early stuff isn't their best really. It wasn't until 2008 that I started getting into them, when I was already 20 years old-- I was at an internet cafe and they started playing I Want You (She's So Heavy) and I asked the title of the song and I looked it up on my laptop and I literally went "The Beatles made THAT?!" Radio stations just don't play the best stuff around here

Love the Weyes Blood mention, I’ve been really loving her work. In fact, I almost feel like ‘Andromeda’ could have been a George song just from those diminished chords alone. Let alone that slide guitar - I swear i had to double check that wasn’t somehow George himself!

I know this does'nt make sense, but Imagine a Beatles album with Image, Mind Games, Live and Let Die, My Sweet Lord and the best from Lennon's Double Fantasy album... what an album!

I have put together a fantastic Spotify collection called 'The Black Album', roughly two hours long which is a collection of solo material but what I consider to be the best 'Beatles' songs of the 1970 to 1980 decade'that would be in a double album collection. It has the content you suggest plus others by George and even a couple of Ringo songs. Half or so of them are from 1969 to 71 reflecting my preference for that era and because THEY ALL MOSTLY LOST THEIR MOJO's during the 70's as music did generaly IMHO. Paul kept his going the longest. By 1980 I prefered Yoko's stuff. I only rate two included John songs on Double Fantasy. 'Beautiful Boy' and 'I'm losing you'. THE BLACK ALBUM; 1970-80: DISK ONE; Cold Turkey (John), Give me Love (George), Everynight (Paul), Working Class Hero (George), Monkberry Moon Delight (Paul), Don't Let me wait to long (George), How do you Sleep? (John), Maybe I'm Amazed (Paul), Crippled Inside (John), Wah Wah (George), Gimme Some Truth (John), Junk (Paul). SPOTIFY PUBLIC ACCESS under name 'crazydavidhughes' DISK TWO; I'm Losing You (John), Band on the Run (Paul), Try some, buy some (George), #9 Dream (John), Live and Let Die (Paul), Steel and Glass (John), Let Me Roll It (Paul), Beautiful Boy (John Lennon), My Sweet Lord (George), It don't Come Easy (Ringo), Imagine (John), The Light That Has Lighted The World (George), Bluebird (Paul), Jealous Guy (John), Let 'em In (Paul), Sue me Sue You Blues (George), Beaucoup of Blues (Ringo), Coming Up (Paul), The Lord Loves the One that Loves the Lord (George): TOTAL 32 Songs, 2 hours 9 minutes

I'm interested in your opinion of the concept fan made album "Everyday Chemistry", comprising a mix of the Beatles solo work similar to the "Love" album. And if you've never heard of it i'd like to see you make a video on it.

My love for older music started with my Year 6 teacher, whose surname was (ironically) Beatle. I can remember the moment that my life started when he wheeled a crappy old TV to the front of the class and started playing Elvis Presley's 'Jailhouse Rock'. He always used to tell us that he was the original Beatle because he was born the year before they started using the name, and we spent 20 minutes every Friday listening to whatever tracks he had lined up for us: 'Twist and Shout', 'Good Golly Miss Molly', 'Blue Suede Shoes', 'I Saw Her Standing There', etc. That's where it all begun, and now it's come full circle again and I couldn't be happier for it.

On the question of soundtracks, Trainspotting (my favourite film) is still untouchable. The opening drums of “Lust For Life”, The Synthesiser of “Born Slippy”, and the bounce of “Mile End”. A class of its own.
