504 Farmall and IH 80 Combine in Oats

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I got 105 bpa off 7.5 acres. More than I needed! Thanks to my brother for helping and sis-in-law for doing most of the filming.

I like the combo. The tractor doesn't have enough power to slip the cylinder belt but it handles the combine well. It's small and nimble enough to work in tight corners but sitting up high lets you see what's going on much better. I've since converted the tractor to diesel and it's even better.

Sweet old combine, really good shape considering it's age. Nice find. Looked like nice oats as well.

Ran an 80 like that from 1989 to about 2017 finally wore it out. It was an excellent machine I think some of the international harvesters best engineering went into those combines. I trade buying off the dealer over here about 20 miles west of us because we needed something bigger that we also run a corn head and we but a gleaner f2 that we are very satisfied with also, but we sure did get a lot of work out of that old international. I think we had $1,000 in it when we bought it and over the time that we ran it bring in mind that we're a small farm maybe 20 acres of small grain a year and maybe a little small amount maybe another under 10 acres every few years it'll combine didn't cost us I'll bet in all the time we ran it another $1,000 in maintenance couple bearings in the belt here and there all we did was clean it up every year and we put it away and put it to bed was a fine machine!

I never got to use a pull type combine but my dad and grandfather did We had a international 101 self propelled combine before we got a gleaner with a cab. Also had a L 120 truck that I remember when dad bought it from the used car lot. Our bigger truck was a converted Hertz rental F600 stub nose truck. Those were good times that I sure do miss

I was fortunate to find the tractor, combine and truck. They are all just the right size for my operation. I wanted a pull type so I wouldn't have to maintain another engine and drivetrain that only runs 5-10 hours a year. I discovered later that this one has a bonus header. Someone widened it by about 9 inches. No idea why they even bothered with 9 inches but I like it. If it was any wider it wouldn't fit in my shed.

I love to see this old machinery that today amounts to midgets on the farm but changed the lives of all that used them back when. More productive, easier way of life and led the way to feeding the WORLD!

Sounds like the old truck could stand a valve job. Sounds like a couple intake valves aren't sealing very good.

Nice. IMO poor idea unloading into dump truck like that. Asking for a bent auger. One gopher mound will tilt the combine into truck.

Just wondering what gear you're using? When I was a kid, my dad combined with an International 504 utility gas pulling an IH 82 combine. When in heavy oats (100 bu. per acre or more) we could maybe manage 1st gear high TA at best or we'd plug the cylinder. The sun had to be shining and if a cloud went over you could hear it start to slug the cylinder.

I'm pretty sure 1st Lo in this video and Hi in the lighter places, averaging 105 b/a. I swapped a diesel in since this video and last year I cut pretty high to avoid weeds and 2nd low was no problem and high in the lighter spots. I know what you mean about moisture. I should have stopped sooner in the video but wanted to keep going just because but then I did stop when I could hear the cylinder start to rumble. I'm near enough to the coast that the cooler ocean air often blows in and 70 degrees is a big difference from 80 with the same wind and the sun is a big help. I usually can't start until late morning or noon.

As long as the dew doesn't fall there's no problem, unless there are issues with the equipment that might go unnoticed in the dark. I really would have been better off stopping sooner but I wanted to just because.

  • @trackhoe23

@@sheepfarmerman Cool! This the extent of my combine operating so I can't compare them with anything else from experience, but looking at AC All-Crops makes me glad I got this. I don't know about the difference in cleaning, but this is a more practical design with the swinging tongue, lengthwise separator, and wider cut. It just fits in my shed with 11.5' between posts. I can transport it down the road without hanging over the center line. The only real problem I've had is the ends of the fan blades breaking, but I just cut them off and haven't noticed a drop in airflow.

  • @trackhoe23

I think 7' was the only width available. A PO widened mine so it's pretty close to 8'. I'm glad he didn't go any wider because I bought it assuming it was original and would easily fit in my shed.
