i am mexican-american living in california; never have fit in with the majority of Mexicans. The few Mexican-Americans who accepted me looked like me (pale/'"white skin" , black/brown hair that was curly or wavy and sometimes glasses) and also nerds (like me). The other two friends I had in junior college were actually Jewish and often spoke with me about their beliefs...I don't know...somehow, someway, we always ended up talking about Torah or something about being culturally Jewish and I felt such a strong affinity and they were very dear friends as well.

I’m from Puerto Rico and my family came from Spain and Canary Islands. My mother also taught me to kiss the bread before throwing it, but her mother use to said also after kissing the bread: Thanking G-d for the sustenance. My grandmother used to cover the mirrors when some family members passed away. My mother also use to tell use not to count the starts and if we do we could get warts. Now that I have been studying Judaism and I did convert, now it makes more sense that was some jewish traditions running around the family. We do have many more traditions specially in our food.

Most Hispanics in the New World that have Spanish ancestors from the time of the Spanish Empire have Jewish ancestors. But generally, it's not through the mother's mother's mother's line. That line, for most Hispanics is Native American. I have Sephardic Jewish ancestors on my mother's side, but not on my maternal line. I'd have to convert to Judaism if I wanted to be recognized as such. I'm looking into it.

My mother used to put frozen meat in water to thaw. I found it so odd, I asked her why she did that, and she said: "I don't know, my grandmother used to do it"! Later I found out in a PHD thesis that was published that this was the Jewish way of making the meat kosher. My father also had a 1st name which nobody here used, and it is only found in Israel. Amazing the Portuguese Jewish saga.

She is not the only one my family has the same story to tell. There are many many families that have been displaced by the Spanish Inquisition. Still to this day we are hated by many and don’t believe our life story and say it isn’t true.

After this learn Code Noir by the French, Document of Discovery, Black codes , Manifest destiny and lastly Jim Crow. The Spanish Inquisition was just the beginning. You want to end racism ? Learn who started and why?

What a great story. I hope the Jewish youth in America realises the tragedy that fell on their ancestors and the fortitude that Jewish people have shown over the centuries to survive and remain Jews despite unimaginable hardships.

She does look quite jewish, she could be Sarah Silverman's sister. I'm happy that Hannah found a place where she feels at home and where she belongs

Moors of the Cordoba Caliphate that were enslaved and sent to the Americas were Hebrews that converted to Catholicism. Before landing in Virginia, NY, SC and New Orleans their descendants came from Cuba, Bahia, Mexico City, D.R, The Bahamas etc
