500 Greatest Generals in History: 516-401
I created a query that looks at every battle article in Wikipedia and identifies the military commander who won the battle.
This video shows the 516th to 401st military commanders that won the most battles.
List of battles won by general: docs.google.com/document/d/1N...
Rules
• Battles are included only if they have a Wikipedia article
Methodology:
I used Wikipedia as a directory of battles:
1. I created a query with Wikidata Query to get the list of all articles tagged as "battle" by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles
2. I downloaded the data that is included in the top right hand table of every of those Wikipedia article. I did it for the following versions of Wikipedia: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian, Japanese, Danish, Norwegian, Slovakian, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Hindi, Hebrew, Basque, Bulgarian, Romanian, Catalan, Finnish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Persian, Indonesian, Korean
3. I cleaned up the data on Excel to remove double entries :
4. I created an index of countries with their predecessor states:

It's probably the number of battles won vs how much battles they lost.

A lot of them most likely won more than 4. Jan Sobieski for example definitely won a couple more than that but English Wikipedia doesn't have articles about those battles. This whole list is flawed.

Why was he special? I read a book about a guy named parmenion who was a son a Macedonian and a foreign who wasn't accepted by his community... He was crazy about a girl named Derae and he fought against some enemies? Is it him?

@@nekhlioudovbolkonsky2901 I know the book you are talking about. Its a historical novel but not very accurate (he never rose up in Sparta for example). But anyway: Parmenion was a Macedonian general and basically the 2nd in command of Philipp II. and his son, Alexander the Great.

Not many. There are a ton of Swedish generals missing. Stenbock that won at Helsingborg only have two independent wins. Rhensköld spent most of his time as a wing commander for Charles xii and only have one win.

"4 battles won" in the video 1:24 Generalissimo Emilio Aguinaldo has a military record of winning all the battles he led/fought in the Philippine Revolution and when the americans came, he only lost one battle because of the superiority of the technology of the enemy in the battle. Late to the party here, but after viewing the entire series, I have to ask what the tiebreaker criteria was?
It is good that South America has representation among these generals, maybe missing one from the War of the Pacific between Chile and Perú/Bolivia (1879-1883), i think General Baquedano from Chile won 4 battles: - Battle of Los Ángeles - Battle of Tacna - Battle of Chorrillos - Battle of Miraflores There´s also the Battle of Arica, but that one probably doesn't count because Baquedano did not command directly and put colonel Pedro Lagos on charge. I´ll guess Baquedano was not here because he only became a general after his victory on Los Ángeles, kinda unfortunate.
2:21 John III Sobieski had won 20 battles at least which one of them (battle of vienna) was his biggest. Results of this battle was win for (anti ottoman/ holy league) and savin' catholic part of europ. Strength of armies: *Ottoman 120k~250k (~150 cannons) *Holy league 70k~90k (~200 guns)
