$500 Dollar Bill Complete Guide - What Are They, How Much Are They Worth And Why?
A relatively smaller series on the channel, this video seeks to provide a complete overview of the small and large size 500 Dollar Bills - everything from what they are worth to how many series' there were to how star notes and different condition bills are valued. We'll start with an introduction and move to a presentation on the 1882 500 Dollar Gold Certificate, 1918 500 Dollar Federal Reserve Note, 1922 500 Dollar Gold Certificate, and more modern 500 dollar bills. There are some series with very valuable star notes and others that are significantly more common, so it pays to be informed and know what to be on the look out for if you are in contact with these notes on a semi-regular basis. The information is also good for casual banknote and currency fans as well.

To say that we don't need large denominations to be brought back is downright foolish. With the impact of over a century of inflation, they would be used just as frequently as 100 dollar notes. Millions of people make transactions in excess of 500 dollars daily, so these notes could see use once again. 500 was a lot of money back then and could buy an entire vehicle off a showroom floor. Today, if someone wanted to pay cash for a car, they would have to bring a whole briefcase full of 100s to do the same job that a stack of 500s could knock out. 1000s would be easier to count and keep track of in large transactions as well. Crooked folk are always gonna exist. There will always be people using large amounts of money to be shady, and there is literally nothing that can really be done to stop it. What can be done is seizing their assets after they get done screwing up and placing them behind bars like we're supposed to. We shouldn't let the poor choices of a few dictate the amount of money we can carry without it looking obvious. Yes, cashless transactions are widespread taking over, but millions of folk love the look of cold hard cash. People have faith in their cold hard cash versus an arbitrary number on a screen. Cash is physical. Tangible. It's not going away anytime soon. Bring back large denominations. Kinda unfair that only a small amount of people had the privilege of being born in a time with these around. They should never have been taken away.
Excellent video bud. The 1918 500 is in my wish list. Maybe one day I’ll sell off a portion of my collection and pick one up. Thanks for sharing!

#7:51 We had a couple employees from the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) do a "talk" about the FRB at our coin club several months ago. They said that the $500 and $1,000 Federal Reserve Notes were used as "Gold Transfer Notes" between banks.
Thanks a lot Christian. We may have bigger notes if we end up losing more value of the dollar lol. Thanks for the informative videos. You deliver the facts well. And since I recently got in currency notes too. I enjoyed it thanks. This hobby of stacking, then collecting numismatics, now currency notes, what's next lol. I love getting new items in my collection, an these videos help me find something new to look for all the time. Keep it coming. Thanks again

I love it those 500 dollars currency, hi from NYC
I’d like to see new $500 notes. But since governments want cashless transactions, I doubt it will happen. #taxavoidance
the value on all of these is crazy now
Great study! Always wondered about them. Unaware of the variety. Thank you.

The reason why they don't issue USD 500 bills today, despite inflation, is the same that the EU doesn't print EUR 500 notes since 2014: to make money laundering more difficult. Besides, a $500 note in 1934 would have the acquiring power of ~ $ 10,000 today [2021].

I do see what you’re saying. I would like to add that $500 bill would actually only be worth $500 today if they printed them. $500 would not even get a woman out the door today. If you include her hair products her make up her hygiene and bathing products, her manicure/pedicure Products or costs, her undergarments, her outfit and shoes. Taking the kids for jeans and athletic shoes, cost more than $500.

Because Cyprus, Kaiman Islands and Channel Islands were full of 500€ and $500 bills? No it's not money laundering, it's about disintensifing the use of cash to get better control over the citizens.
Awesome content!

I somewhat agree as $500 may be too much but a $200 I feel is needed. If I buy a used car or even electronics privately on places like Facebook market or Craigslist it would make it way easier to have 5 or 10 $500s than having to get a big stack of $100s. I also play poker at the casino occasionally and it would make buying in and cashing out easier, as it would for other games too. $100 just doesn’t buy what it used to.
@Mrbg123
3 жыл бұрын
Side note, when the high denominations were withdrawn, $100 was worth about $600 in today’s money, so reissuing $500s would actually be worth less than what $100 was worth when they were discontinued. $100 today is only about $30 in 1960s money.

@@Mrbg123 The case you made just proves that it would only be convenient for a small minority...👌🏼 It's frivolous to make such a denomination...💯✔

@@_The_Worst_ I disagree that it would be a small minority. Tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of Americans make cash transactions over $500 (certainly over $200) every year. Almost all of Facebook market and the sites like it are done through cash. Also millions of Americans gamble on average $600 per visit to the casino.

Worst...That's the worst idea I've heard in a very long time.
There were also $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 bills back then.

Have a 1934A 500 dollars bills..
I think America should do away with notes all together. Also do away with the federal reserve as a whole and go back to constitutional currency. It would be a hard transition but better than the inevitable (eventual) end of our fiat currency.
@TreasureTownCoins
