50. Thru’ Braunston Tunnel and Locks

After a pleasant evening and good night’s sleep, I set off in my narrowboat to pass through Braunston Tunnel and tackle Braunston Locks, which are double width. Will I pair up with someone to go through the locks or shall I be handling them alone? The weather is not looking too promising, as I head into the tunnel. Later, I have an unexpected confrontation!

    Well this brings back memories. I was the skipper of the Black Prince boat you went through these locks with and my wife and her father are operating the locks (along with one or two other people). It was very wet that day. We stopped at the Braunston water-point and that widebeam “Mogoch” came past us after you encountered it. Have fun :-)

    Boy that rain was pelting down!! What a surprise meeting that huge boat in the spot under the bridge 😳 I watch other channels to get ideas for my videos and I appreciate how you add in details that are entertaining. I’m working on that skill on my channel Memaws Matters. 👍🏻👍🏻nice job good entertainment as I’m editing my next one

    Great video Alan... I have to say that we always go through the Braunston Tunnel very early in the morning... so as to mitigate the chances of meeting something coming in the opposite direction... Enjoy watching your adventures..🍷🍷

    Lovely trip to watch Alan, that widebeam did give you a bit of a surprise. Shame about the rain but thats boating life for you lol. Time to get the brushes out when you get back for a little touch up on your starboard stern side methinks. Keep up the good videos and happy boating.

    Goes to show canal life can be idyllic, peaceful and slower paced but fraught with unexpected excitement and danger around every bend ;) 14:27 reminds me of slipping in a car on ice/snow... just in slow motion, i was waiting for the crunch! well done nice vlog

    DisarmingCrib - Many thanks. Every trip is different that’s the nice thing about boating. Even the same length of canal will be different depending on the time of year. It’s meeting the unexpected and overcoming it, that makes it exciting.

    Good job. Are the wide boats able to transit all of the canals or are they too big for some. That was a BIG boat. Be safe.

  • @MyNarrowboatVenture

    @MyNarrowboatVenture

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Frank. The wide beams are very restricted as they can’t travel over any canals with single width locks. In brief, they can use the Grand Union between London and Birmingham; the Kennet and Avon including the Rivers Thames and Avon; canals in the Liverpool / Manchester area, which are not connected to the Grand Union. There are also some navigations to the East of the country.
