You are well on your way to self-destructing yourself with alcohol if : 1. You skip meals and replace them with alcohol , gives you an excuse to start drinking earlier. 2. You don’t have an hangover even if you had quite a bit of drinks the night before. 3. You can never just have a couple of drinks , way past the everything in moderation mindset .. 4. You might be calm and in a good state of mind when you first arrive at the bar , but get aggressive and emotional as you drink more and more throughout the night. 5. You often experience blackouts. 6. You spend the most of your money on drinks. 7. You get extremely defensive when someone argues with you about your drinking habits . 8. You think you can quit anytime you want even though you’ve never done it . 9. You need alcohol to feel more confident in social gatherings . 10. You need alcohol to sleep better .. 11. You feel irritated and uncomfortable if you don’t drink alcohol after a stressful event or a hard day day at work . 12. You always have a good explanation for why you drink . 13. You start drinking more expensive wine and whiskey thinking you are now the wine connoisseur or the scotch expert. 14. You start brewing your own . Majority of the people who posses most of these symptoms are not necessarily alcoholics , but they are psychologically addicted to alcohol , and if left untreated will eventually turn into psychical dependence ... My friends .. Alcohol is poison , carcinogenic, has ZERO benefits and brings ZERO value to your life.. Get the poison out of your life today ...

I agree with everything except for 14. Many brew their own as a hobby, not just to drink it. Many home brewers I know rarely drink their own except for special occasions like New Year’s Eve or Christmas.

Hope you made it on your 21st birthday to not drink! Lots of young people don't drink, which is what I discovered after I had a long period of studentlife drinking, thinking it really was everyone doing that. It wasn't, it was just everyone I knew. How sad. Would've loved to get to know people when I was 18-28 years old, with a clear head. How different would my life and friend circle have been..! Good for you for even just trying to not drink, realizing you can totally opt out!

I want my 76yr old dad to stop so bad. :( He recently had heart surgery and I knew he would not tell the doctors that he drinks over 7 beers a day EVERYDAY. Sometimes, he over does it with the wine and mixes beer with some hard liquor. It's Sad! My dad is such a good person and great husband and father. I'm just so tired of this disease consuming him, it's like he is another person sometimes. I have to admit, he can be cool while drinking, heck I would enjoy a beer with him sometimes. However, he over does it when he is stressed from his business, depressed from getting older, or simply because he is just so codependent. He does not do bars or anything like that. He just drinks after he closes his shop and drinks more at home. That is his thing, he always puts off going to the beach with the family or other outdoor activities so he stays behind with his liquor. When we get back home, he's knocked out. And if he is not drinking he gives my mom such a hard time with his attitude. She gave in and stopped telling him to quit drinking because all he would do is argue with her. My mom is his wife of 46years. She has stood by that man's side through all of his bouts. She tells me you have a great dad but that alcohol is killing him. I'm his baby girl, youngest of 5 girls. I can't stand my dad this way not even now that I am in my 40's and he is 76yrs old. That man is the rock of our family and I don't think I have ever met someone as gracious, cool, fun, strong, courageous and as hard working as my dad. I'm here tonight because I can't sleep knowing my dad is in ICU right now recovering from heart surgery. I went to see him today for the first time. Unfortunately I caught a cold the day before his surgery so I could not be around him. Today I had to see my dad sedated with a tube down his mouth and plugged into so many wires etc, I cried at sight, it was terrible seeing my dad there that way. He wasn't suppose to look that way or even be in ICU because the leaking heart valve sugery he had went perfectly well. No complications at all and Today is his fourth day at the hospital. Let me tell you why he is still in ICU and back on the tubes. It all started on the second day after his surgery, I stayed over his house to keep mom company. I couldn't sleep due to my cough from the cold I had, I was pacing around his house thinking about him and crying then I took it upon myself to call ICU at 2am to see how he is. Then something just told me to let the nurses know that my dad is an alcoholic. I respect my father so much and I know he would be angry at me for telling them that. He is a prideful man and would think that people would look down on him, as they do a homeless drunk. He just doesn't get it! But I do. So I told on him and guess what? the nurse was so grateful because it explained his hallucination and erratic behavior 24 hours after surgery. Which is the most crucial alcohol withdrawal stages. The nurse told me that now it makes sense, they couldn't understand why he was being intolerant. They thought perhaps it could be from the anesthesia which is normal, but now that I told them he is an alcoholic its evident that he is going through serious alcohol withdrawal. The next day the doctor scolded him and put him on an entire different cocktail of medicine to help the withdrawal symptoms. I think I saved his life by ratting him out that night, he could have had a seizure or something worse. Basically, they added alcohol to the drip so his body can get what it was asking for. He is actually going though some form of detoxification right now as he recovers from heart surgery. He didn't even mention in his paperwork that he consumes roughly 7 drinks a day and more on others. All because he is embarrassed to be labeled as an alcoholic or simply because he had no clue of how his body would react without it. God this is so stressful to me. :( Two days days before his surgery we were at the Hospital visiting my sister who just removed cancer from her breast. (Yea I know, pretty rough week for my family - she is doing great though and is a survivor, thank God) My dad and I stepped out of the room because my sister was in a lot of pain. I couldn't take watching her that way and neither could my dad. As we stepped out we saw this beautiful painting of the ocean and sand dunes, beautiful blue sky. The photo was breathtaking. My dad stared at it and said to me "Someday I wish I can just go there" I told him, "Daddy you can, it's free! you always cancel when I ask you to come with us" He said "I never have time" and I told him " Yes, daddy you do! You just have to make the time and you have time on Sundays" then he said "Well if I die in a few days maybe I'll get to see this scene all the time".. I hate when he jokes like that. I then looked at him and noticed this look in his face that I cannot forget. He had this look of fear not because he thought he was gonna die but because for once I think he realized that he can't even control the need to do something as simple and free as a trip to the beach. Because his Sundays are for drinking at home all day and watching tv then passing out on the couch. It's been that way for years. I have no idea what my family is going to do when he gets out of the hospital in a week or two. I know we are heading towards a long road to help my dad. It's 3:30am and I'm on line putting my father's story out there hoping someone can give me some advice, resources or hope that he can get through this. I'm 43, he has been drinking all of my life and more. He started at 13 years old and gradually just became so codependent on liquor. How does someone like my dad heal? I need my dad back

I understand how you feel I went through what you have went through. Lickly my dad stoped driking before he died. Me and my mom has positive memories of him. Because he stoped. Just don't give up on your parents. Because if so you might regret that. If something was to happen to them. I'm glad I forgave my dad when I did and gave him a chance. It paid off big time. I realy hope you got you wish kid. If it has not happened yet. I hope it does soon.

Why you shouldn't drink alcohol 1. Waste of money 2. Feel like throwing up 3. Slow time reactions 4. Makes you a loser 5. Worst way to have fun 6. Leaves a shit taste A lot of reasons why there is AA for alcoholics. I'm sorry I'm 18 sharing this. I learned a lot younger because I wanted to live a life drinking but learning young made me decide no I don't need it.

I've been through the negatives of alcohol for so long. Been drinking since I was 14 heavy and I'm 24 now. 10 years of hard liquor and beer every day. I've just recently slowed down and went through some AA meetings but cracked some open now and again but the results were never good. I'm finished. I've been through enough. 10/18/2018.

Everything this man is saying is 100% truth. I lost 2 friends due to alcoholism and watched their families and health little by little fall away over the years as their alcoholism progressed. And one day when it had finally stripped them off everything, it took their lives. There was not for good reason Alcohol was banned and made illegal back in the old days. Sadly as the generations has passed, we seem to have forgot what a dangerous chemical Ethanol truly is, and now more than ever need to remind ourselves again.

2 n' a half months off and I've dropped 4 kgs without changing a thing so yeah, a few beers equals a big Mac. Also my scaly old 60+ yr old skin is super soft and skin tags vanishing. No more weak knee's either. I've got heaps better balance and I'm also saving a fortune on antacid medication. The negative? I'm now a sugar hound and the insomnia lasted about 6 or 7 weeks but it's all good now.

The whole thing is just like one very lucid psychedelic trip. All the most intense emotions I can remember feeling are between 8-15, and there is so many things that happened to me as a kid which I can play back like a movie while I'd be lucky to even remember 5 minutes from what happened 2 weeks ago. What comes after childhood is awesome too; being a 'young adult'; late teens, 20's and early to mid 30's. Eventually you hit your 40's and then your perspective on life starts changing but at least your body is still in pretty good shape and you can go out and do stuff. This age of having a highly developed brain and tons of experience (and money) while still having a competent body probably lasts somewhere into your 50's. Eventually, you start getting 'old'. Even if you manage to take care of yourself, you cannot beat the aging process. This starts with your body and all the physical symptoms that come when it starts to deteriorate, but very quickly that translates into becoming 'old' mentally. Your best years are without a shadow of a doubt, behind you. You are no longer going to achieve any greatness which you havn't already up until this point and you are pretty much just progressively getting weaker and pessimistic. You are forced to take the things that you used to care about, and sacrifice them in order to prolong your lifespan. It may be a slow process, but it is a sure one. Eventually you've given up all the things that made you feel alive including things like sex or emotional and physical exertion. You are just sitting there, continuously giving up the next thing to buy more time. What will you do with that extra bought time? The answer is sit around and wait to die, because at that point, there is nothing else left to keep yourself preoccupied with. So yeah... not saying I'm an alcoholic or anything, but while I'm still young I rather drink more than I should, experiment with a few drugs, do a bunch of stupid things and feel alive, even if it ticks off 20 or 30 years which I could have potentially outlived. Those are 'old age years' and 2000 of them are not even worth a fraction of one good year of being young :D

Alcohol kills many of the beneficial bacteria that live in the intestines. Our body needs these bacteria as they support a healthy gut microbiome and many critical processes. Over time, alcohol consumption can actually cause permanent damage to your brain cells and neurotransmitters, further weakening the eye muscles and distorting vision. Another effect of decreased reaction times is the iris taking longer to contract, which is the process of making the pupil smaller. Make yourself a photo from a aging app to remind you that old age and alcohol dont mix.

It's getting to the point I've realized I'm drinking , at the end of the week as a reward to how crap my job is, to relieve the stress I believe I have. I think I've bought a litre bottle of whiskey every week for 10 months, same mind excuses. I've seen spider veins on face, red face, my sleep sucks, yeah I fall asleep quickly but wake up although the night, the lists are endless......it's October 10th 2020, I've just drank a litre in 3 nights....that's it, no more........I've one glass left, I'm seriously gonna try.........msg or hit my thumb up, I'll answer all ppl who give a toss.. I'm small fry, to all out there, trying, I salute you...

I know how it feels to hate a job, but it's not worth killing yourself with an addiction. You may not feel important, but you are here for a reason. You have the ability to make the world a better place. If the job is helping others in some positive way, then it's a good thing even if you hate it. You can find another job in the future. But you cannot undo the past. My liver and pancreas are permanently damaged from alcoholism. I did terrible things under the influence. Please don't destroy yourself. Happiness can only happen when you break free from all addictions. Seek that happiness.

Drinks should not be an obsession, it's like driving. Cure time is essential for the wear and tear of body parts whether you drink or do exercise as the cell of the damage parts to get replaced with new cells. Abstinence from drinks is necessary as well certain junk food. Low quality drinks one consumes lot so one who drinks costly cannot afford regular drinks. My Mom's words rhymes in my ears that nothing good comes out from drinking habits. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." Proverbs 20:1

I read an artical the other day very intresting and it also stated when you go to black out that is a force taking over your body. Dr Rachel Hajar, an accomplished modern-day editor, author and medical advisor, while researching an article on alcohol for her online medical journal, found additional dual meanings in ancient Arabic texts; 1 - Al kol: Genie or spirit that takes on varied shapes or a supernatural creature in Arabic mythology. 2 - Al kol: Any drug or substance that takes away the mind or covers it.

Alcohole and calories is a bit weird. Many alcoholics drop weight when they drink. Simply because they don´t eat normally. If you down 60-70 cl of vodka and eat a sandwich a day you will most probably loose weight. You will definitely loose a lot of muscle mass. So if one liter of vodka is like seven big macs in calories you can never really compare those two.

It really will have to take a REVELATION or the LIGHTBULB clicking on. Something inside you has had enough and you’re rdy to do something with yourself. Ready to finally get the promotion, make the big money or even better... be the best husband or dad and spend quality time with family. You are tired of fighting and being embarrassed the next day. Tired of living in a fog. It takes 3-4 days to recover from a binge. Anyhow.... it has to take the LIGHTBULB to go off or you just continue down the vortex until you’re the most resentful angry person you could be. Time for change!

So many good reasons to not drink..I'm bi-polar and not taking medications and it seems that I get more lows than the highs unlike when I was younger..when I decide to drink I say that I do not want to live to be 70 or 80..I'm 51 and when I was only 30 I had a heart attack and I waited for hours before I went to the hospital and so a part of my heart was damaged..ten years ago a doctor said my heart is enlarged..I drink almost every night to sedate myself from the sad visions of my dad dying and also a few black lab dogs that were like children to me.I have never found peace with their deaths and so I drink and of course it always ends in misery..most likely I will not make it to be 70 or 80, but I do fear that I will die a lot sooner if I do not get in control..I know that exercise can help but I have to stop pouring the poison in..I only feel good after a few drinks but that goes away and I try and get it back by drinking more but it just slips away..I want to be the kind of person who never needs or wants to drink any amount..I know that I have that ability if only I can stop the other me from taking over later today..thanks for your advice Dr. Gibson.
