I am soon 70 and Swedish. I listen to a lot of music, different genres, but not to much Swedish music during the last 20 years. I recognized four (4!) of these 50 songs. Not only that, to me they all sounded very similar to each others. There are so many skilled Swedish artists in pop, rock, jazz, folk music, classical etc etc, all of them overlooked! "...of all time"!??

4? Which ones? I listened to the first ten songs, and the list had Tove Lo, "boten Anna" (not the Swedish group), Danny Saucedo, Ace of Base, Laleh, Papa Dee, The Cardigans, Avicii, and Army of Lovers that I recognized. Only two that I didn't know the name of the group (three, if counting boten Anna. And I'm not that well traversed in music.

I'll have to chime in with the other commenters here. There's of course some top-hits in this video but besides those it's very much hit or miss. I second Anna Lundholms point about Jonathan Rollins, he's made it a mission to deep dive into swedish classics from all kinds of eras and his videos feature a good realistic collection of classics.

If you want to know abour swedish songwriting and producing, take a look at Max Martin´s produktion. He ´s written or cowritten 25 Us Billboard #1 and more than 50 top 10 songs. He wrote and co produced among others, ...baby one more time, it´s gonna be me, so what, I kissed a girl , we are never ever getting back together, roar, I cant feel my face, blinding lights, save your tears, my universe and a great part of BSB´s catalog. Max is the biggest one bat there is a bunch of others as well.

One has to keep in mind that the word "greatest" _is_ subjective. Before one can assemble a list, one has to set the premises for it, define the criteria to be assessed. As at least one of the songs were written by a brit, though made a hit by a swedish duo, the criteria for this list are arguable.

There’s simply too much to chose from. Almost impossible to make an accurate compilation of ”the 50 greatest”. We have the most hits per capita in the world. Many international stars have hits written and/or produced by swedes.

Of course, with lists as these they did miss a lot... I mean, I haven't even heard all of these songs. You think you should at least heard every song in a "best of all time" compilation. Of course some of these I don't like, but that's just a matter of taste. I mean - they didn't even include all the Billboard top 100 number one artists or even the British number ones.. which would be a benchmark...

For context it would be like having Migos as the sole representative of what hip-hop the US has brought to the world. Dead By April is the most generic band to have ever come out of Sweden. They were a one-hit wonder that got 14-year olds excited about 10 years ago (I'm not exaggerating, that's literally what they are). Good reaction though. But god damn that clip triggered me lmfao

Many of those songs are far from being Swedens best songs, some of those songs I would agree are of our best but most of the songs were not our best. Alot of Mello songs and the video skipped all our other genres like no rock songs, no Kent in here?! to call this video Swedens best is honestly a crime. It's obvious that the person making this have not listened to alot of swedish music and are assuming that some few popular popsongs are the best.
