I love that he had them play the games so they could stay true to the source material, yet did almost everything in his power to do the opposite.

I still remember seeing this in theaters. Just the idea of seeing my favorite game franchise on the big screen blew my mind. I loved feeling like a kid the entire time.

Hilarious moment as a kid in the theater for me. After the Alice kick when the room got kind of silent after how cool it was, some random guy yells out , "THAT'S JET LI AINT IT?!!" XD

The best and true RE movie!!!!!

Resident evil was a big part of my childhood and these movies will always be nostalgic for me.

Gotta do Apocalypse, I actually loved it far more than the first

Fun fact: I seen it in theaters in 8th grade and about 20 minutes in i started feeling sick. Chills, fever, everything and thought I was dying. Watched the whole movie like that expecting to become a zombie.

Still can't believe that the Licker was named after Clint Eastwood. Thankfully, watching this again after being reupload still made my day.

All these movies were better than Welcome To Raccoon City. I still remember the secret code you could input on the dvd to get a secret music video of My Plague by Slipknot

So Anderson had everyone play the game to make sure they were familiar with the source material when the movie itself has so little to do with the source material?😂😂 Don't get me wrong, it's a fun movie but he kinda pulled a Michael Bay/Transformers on it

Funny part is Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn't the only Buffy star to have almost been a part of the movie. David Boreanaz almost played Matt! I'm sure both stars were busy filming Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel shows at the time, but it would have been so interesting to see how the movie would have played out had they played the roles instesd.

2023 this movie is a good wine and it's deserve the crown now

I don’t care if you don’t like the other sequels, this movie as a stand alone is such a well made and unique zombie movie. You can literally take anyone and make them watch this and have it be a top notch sci-fi film. Also I would love to get a video game based on this film. Playing as Alice and having a timer or virus meter/gauge like outbreak would be so badass. Alice and her outfit to this day give me RE3 Jill vibes, two bad ass woman with no control over their outfit face many dangers in them and still prevail because of their skill 💗🔥🔥🔥🔥.

Niche 90s memory here: I remember watching a “behind the scenes” clip of this production. It was on a DVD included with a gaming magazine, probably Official PSM. Side note: DVD stands for digital versatile disc. It wasn’t always just a drinks coaster. You actually used to put them into these machines that used LASERS to play videos. Imagine KZread was a bunch of frisbees. Frisbees are a disc that you throw. Anyway, on this DVD, Milla Something-vich was claiming she was a fan of the games, referring to Leon as “that guy” who freaks out when “that thing” appears on the ceiling (referring to the licker). That first movie was surprisingly straight forward and concise. The white, pristine lab sets looked good and those visuals seemed to inspire some of the environments that appeared in the games that followed (for better or worse).

They should've given this movie the subtitle of "genesis" to imply that this movie was a prequel to the game series and Alice could've been introduced as a new character,and also add more backstory to the game's plot

The first and the second movie are the my favorite, after that it went down hill.

I never liked the idea of the "zombie school" because it takes away any fun expression that the extras might be able to do as zombies, as opposed to Romero's films where they all sort of did their own thing (and how we got the grinning and cigar-chomping zombie in Day).

Sounds very juvenile and light-hearted. Not very threatening or menacing 🤷🏻‍♂️. Paul WS Anderson was adamant that he wanted to avoid influences from 70s and 80s zombie movies. Or that’s what he said in the documentary for the original RE movie. Something tells me he came around in the sequels because the effects seem to have improved slightly

The best RE movie so far

This was actually the first zombie movie I ever saw and predates my familiarity with RE by decades (my dad tried bonding with me by playing RE2 when I was a kid, but it freaked me out and he didn't get how to play it, so it was quickly abandoned). Although I hate how these movies strayed so far from the games, I can easily see why the first one is a guilty pleasure for John Carpenter and I think it has such a great atmosphere and a killer main theme. ...That said, I am flabbergasted to hear that people working on the movie were required to study the first game, considering even this movie--the one that comes the closest to feeling like the games--doesn't really feel like the games of its time. I still love this movie on its own merits, I'd just never say it reminds me of the games.

I personally have always enjoyed this movie even as a huge Resident Evil fan. I see it as whole different take and although there's plenty of things to notice that quote and quote aren't right and the mistakes that were made during the filming, it gives it a lot of character and will always be one of my favorites.

How about some facts on the CGI films?

I try to enjoy this movie when it came out. But i wasn't really able to enjoy it, simply because there were no cast of the game involved. & now they are saying that it was a prequel to the first game? Should that not be Resident Evil 0? In my own personal opinion, they're saying that now as a defense against the heat & criticism from people like me who feel that the movie should've been candid to the game. & the fact that nothing was similar to the game except for the name of the antagonist (Umbrella), & and the virus, was extremely heartbreaking. I'm not gonna go & take anything away from the cast. It was an all stellar cast, & they're all amazing actresses/actors. But the way the movie is written, i feel is a slap in the face to die hard Resident Evil fans. If it was a prequel to the games, they should've said something during the movie's production, so that fans would know, not to go see this movie ,expecting to see Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Barry, Rebecca Chambers; & let's not forget Albert Wesker. These are all my personal opinions, of course. But anyone who reads this needs to agree with me; Whenever Hollywood goes ahead, & tries to convert a game to a movie, they ALWAYS, "F" it up. They did it wth Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, & Resident Evil. Hollywood is HORRIBLE at doing game to movie transitions. The best one in my opinion was the very first Mortal Kombat movie from the 90's. That movie was incredible. & Street Fighter's Raul Julia (Rest In Peace, man😔), was simply the best damn M.Bison you could cast. He had that whole...."psychotic" aura to him. He was incredible. Love him. But other than those points, my opinion is as is. Hollywood should let the fans do the game to movie transitions. At least then, they woukd be done correctly.

Mistakes in Resident evil 2 ! Please do a re-upload ! I mean mistakes from you guys . Like jill's second reload in the Police building , because she had 2 guns . If you look it up closely , she shared her second firearm with a Survivor in the School ! A peace of advise ❤

It’s not a challenging role for any decent actor, unless the script somehow permits the character to actually be interesting or unique or worth caring about. We only cared about Jill in the game because we’re in her shoes. When they try to portray this person in a film then they have to create a character from scratch. You can’t throw some hot chick in a blue beret and shoulder pads and make her read AI generated quips and expect to entertain an audience…..Right? 🤨

maybe rose tinted goggles, but i feel resi movies are like nickelback, they get way way way too much stick, i know they dont follow games etc but as its own standalone thing, its really not that bad. Much better than the HUGE failed attempt recently with Wesker and his 1200 daughters.
