Since my mom died I've been living in her bedroom, not really changing anything watching it get messier and messier. But yesterday I don't know what happened, I woke up and decided that was the day. I spent all day cleaning and going through my moms things. I ended up taking the day off work today to finish it all. And this i discovered your channel so I was cleaning and listening to you clean at the same time. It was really emotionally draining but sometimes just your bright happy voice helped me keep going. It's all clean now. I still have the bookshelves to go through but at least I can see the floor now. Mom would be proud.

I have the opposite effect of the people you help. I have OCD, so I am always cleaned or organizing something. It's frustrating sometimes because I find myself doing repetitive movements or cleaning. So my daughter introduced me to your channel 😅, watching you clean helps my OCD! 🤭 it's like a medicine for me. Then the urge of cleaning, organizing, deodorizing, washing, vacuuming, and wiping goes away! So thank you for helping me with that! Having OCD isn't fun at times.

Sometimes people with homes like this have OCD too! They just get so overwhelmed and feel like they can't do it perfectly enough, that they shut down. I was told years ago by a therapist that I had OCD but I consider myself cured now because I don't do the behaviors anymore. But at the time, I was hyper organized and clean at work, and super messy and hoarding at home. Everyone at work thought my apartment must be spotless, but it wasn't at all. It took years of work for me to get through my stuff, both mentally and physically.

I have OCD too, and I actually swing back and forth between being a real hoarder and living in filthy conditions when I'm depressed, or being really meticulous and organising & reorganising things. They are definitely both manifestations of OCD because OCD is all about not being able to cope and live/behave normally with anxiety, so you try to either get rid of the anxiety by worrying or doing compulsions, or you avoid/self medicate/distract from it. For me, my obsessions aren't about germs or cleanliness, but I still get both sets of symptoms.

@planetina I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that someday you can find a solution to your OCD. Truthfully. OCD is made fun of by people in conversations and in jokes. But it's such a horrible disorder to deal with! Especially when you deal with it on a daily basis and people think that it's just habits that we can't break. Depression too is a mental health illness that society takes lightly. I dislike it when I hear individuals loosely say the phrase, "I am depressed ". It's insensitive to those individuals who live with it day in and out. So, thank you for sharing your experiences. It takes much courage to speak up about your conditions. I'll definitely keep you in my daily prayers and thoughts. You're stronger than you know!

my mum had been undiagnosed all her life but it was obvious she was depressed. a single mom to eight kids, can't really blame her. my dad was a POS that abused her so while she got free, she still was battling demons. she was abused growing up too, her mom died giving birth to her and her dad left shortly after. she met him once when she was 15. hasn't seen him since, doesn't know if he's still alive or not. she's 62 now. she was raised by her white side of the family, they hated her for being indigenous. anyway, that's just a little info. what i was going to get at was that due to the poverty of her childhood she ended up becoming kind of a hoarder. our homes were never filthy to this extent (but let's be real, us younger 4 were born very close in age so she had her hands full [a year after having me she had twin boys], so there was definitely dirty walls and floorboards lol). growing up it just got worse and worse. she's gotten rid of a lot of her junk but now she's hoarding clothes. literally has boxes and totes stacked in her bedroom and basement full of them. it made me a minimalist. i have chronic depression and anxiety, seeing a messy or cluttered room stresses me out. as a teen i was similar to the people in these videos. i always had a gross room. it definitely improved as i got older, i am 28 now and for my bedroom i only have a dresser, a wall shelf, my bed, and my computer desk with only my computer on it. my laundry can't even be out or i get stressed so i have to put my baskets in my closet so avoid a breakdown. my apartment is similar. i have a tiny bit of clutter that i am fine with - plants make a great clutter that doesn't stress me out. i wish people would realize living in those conditions can really give their children or dependents ptsd. mental health is so hard to deal with. when my depression got so bad to the point where i had cockroaches in my room, my mum sent me to live with one of my older brother's and his wife. it helped a lot. went to a new school for a semester, made many great friends, actually stayed in school without dropping out or skipping a single class. if anyone dealing with that stuff at home has that kind of opportunity, please take it. it may be life-changing.

i think it IS a form of laziness, in tiny, tiny doses and eventually you get overwhelmed and things spiral downwards and downwards, and climbing out of the pit you made is so hard (it's pretty much the same as putting on weight and then trying to lose it). the secret is to stay vigilant even for the little moments, otherwise this happens. And this deep clean isn't helping them at all, because the problem is that they don't have the skills to do the small everyday tasks. even just 5mins a day would do wonders for any household. put on some music, choose 3 songs, and clean for just 3 songs. It's the small things that save you.

it's so good to see someone taking pride in their work and being happy doing it. I'm sure some aspects are bad, it is what it is, but still, you do good work with a lot of compassion. really, I think what they need help with is minimizing stuff and setting up easy places to throw stuff away, like really big trashcans in every room. it helps a lot when you don't have to move a lot to throw something away. I have trashcans in every single room in my apartment and it does keep the mess down. And since I had to move to another state, I had to only take essentials with me, and I'm set on just not having too much stuff so I don't have to clean or tidy them up much. So far, it has worked pretty well. If you don't have the energy to put into cleaning, then you need to make things convenient for yourself, and play life on easy mode. Embrace the lazy for a while, and make your stuff easy to reach, easy to put away, easy to clean, easy to throw away. Hugs to you depressed or neurodiverse people out there, you keep doing your best even when it don't look like much. It is. And keep asking for help. If you haven't, anytime is a good time to start.

For some reason, I don't mind it and I enjoy it. The shining tile makes me feel good and it gives me the inspiration to go further. I take it one chore at a time. My mom taught me a little trick to clean my room when it got out of control when I was a kid. I took everything, toys, clothes, garbage, clutter, and put it all into a big pile on the floor. It makes the room look more clear and free to start organizing right away, and then you can start tackling the pile and watch it shrink! It's kinda fun :) building those habits as a kid made me love cleaning and organizing. It's much easier however to just do a little bit each day, even if it's just taking the dishes and trash away at first. It's really wonderful that your mother helps you

The oils in the citrus peels contain limonene which cuts through grease and smells amazing. Apple peels work as well I just don't eat many apples. It's also good to use on wood, which not all cleaners are safe for.

I remember when I was at my lowest point of depression. I was starting to become a hoarder. I had no energy, lived in my bed and we couldnt even see the floor anymore. My mom and I were very much aware of what a hoarder is, and once she came over and bluntly told me that I was becoming one. It was hurtful as fuck, but very much needed to be said. I spent the next 6+ months afterward cleaning and decluttering my home when I had a bit of energy. It used to be so dirty and yucky.. It kind of still is because I have many pets, and still have a lot of items, but it's all stuff that I use and I'm no longer accumulating trash and food bits and stuff like that everywhere. I went to therapy, to the doctor almost every week for my mental health, and I feel so much better already! Even tho hoarding trash, items and grime is awful, I totally understand the vicious cycle and how detrimental it is to wake up every morning in absolute filth. I never plan on going back to that nightmarish lifestyle and work to the best of my abilities to get better with time. It is very comforting to see people like Aurikatariina helping people in need to declutter homes and NOT judging them. You really can't fully understand the mind of a hoarder until you become one, but I feel like Aurikatariina has that instinct of understanding people's difficult life situations without living them herself. All of those videos "shaming" hoarders and addictions DO NOT HELP, they just discourage the people even more from getting help because they fear to be ridiculed.

Thinness of the mattress topper makes it easier to keep clean, some of them can be washed in washing machine. But it is also something we finns have gotten used to, so it might feel as too little cushioning to sleep on for others.

She's mentioned before that, for the most part, she runs them through the dishwasher on the hottest setting possible. The nice thing about a squeegee is it doesn't really get dirty itself. You just wipe it off. So really all she gets dirty is microfiber cloths and sponges. Both are easy to clean. Sponges you can easily clean out with a little bit of bleach and water. A little bit of water in the sink, about a cap full of bleach, and leave them all in there overnight to clean. It'll kill all bacteria on the sponges and also clean the sink. For the cloths you could do the same if they're not dyed. Otherwise you can seriously just throw them in the washer/dryer. Wash on the hottest setting and dry on a low setting. For anything seriously soiled it's likely best to just throw it out. Which she mentions that a lot of times she does throw out cloths/sponges that are just too beyond.

When I take a break to eat I watch one of your videos and it gives me rejuvenated motivation to clean. I never thought about using dish soap for washing the floor, don't have a floor drain so hopefully it will still be fun to clean ☺️

I think that it is a genius idea to put a drain in the bathroom floor. I wish they did here in America. It would make cleaning the bathroom a lot easier.

I’ve thought the same thing! Plus the shower being on the wall and just running into the drain, so much more room than our typical 32 inch shower we have in North America. If I build another house I want a Finnish bathroom in it .

Amazing. Love your attitude. You are not judgemental, just wanting to help when it gets too much. After a bad 2 years with eyes and general health, I'm a multiple stroke survivor , i am starting to get my mojo back. I do a little at a time. One small area at a time.

I love the extra water hose and drains in the bathrooms there. It makes for easy cleaning and the fridge had all the inserts to change the shelves. Amazing job you and your friend did🤗
