Almost 5 years after I restored it, I had to do some repairs on it.
This is an extremely high hour TV, which I am estimating anywhere between 70k-90k hours on it. Chromacolor II tubes normally don't wear out (they seem indestructible), but this one just has literally that many hours on it. But it also goes to show you how well these Chromacolor II sets were made.

You need to find a Motorola Quasar Console with the drawer in the works! Talk about a retro TV and one that was very memorable. Everytime you hear that QUaaaasaaaRR then "boom boom boom" LOL hhahaa I love it! The 70's rocked!

Those round triads in a crt has a better picture than the square ones I find. Nice to see that twisted me made a cameo appearance! I can tell that years of Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, All In The Family, Happy Days, Mash, Laverne and Shirley, and Cheers have been watched on this TV set. The same was watched on my parents 1974 Chromacolor II. That was amazing job they did to make Zootopia look aged like that. 👍

If these delta tubes are setup correctly they have really good image quality.

These televisions when notoriously for the color boards acting up. Back in the day when I worked in the television shop the technicians would replace the boards in a lot of these type chromacolor sets. Here is a suggestion for you due to the age of that TV. Got horizontal output transistor gets extremely hot you may want to consider putting fresh heat sink Compound on it. Just a suggestion glad to see that you guys are OCD with your Restorations and repairs not many of you guys do that these days

Awesome job, as usual! That CRT still looks amazing. I can imagine how it must look in real life.Yeah my 1977 Magnavox console console has a distinct, sweet scent, once warmed up. Perhaps they used the same cabinet maker? It's smelled like that for decades.

Does this set also feature the "Zoom" functionality? Zenith had introduced that in the mid-1970s on their ChromaColor II sets and I missed out the chance to get a set that supported it (I have a remote with 'Zoom' button). Have always been curious how that actually worked and what uses it had.

It does not have Zoom, but I have a 1979 Zenith Panorama TV with the System 3 chassis that does. Here it is in operation: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dquqqMehgceqcrw.htmlsi=u3E_cDEND1oemKkf at about 47 minutes in is the first demo of it.

Why does this look so good if the tube is weak and has 80,000 hours (I am not disputing it I am curious how maybe I could get a technician to make something like this for me). Our RCA TV looked so bad we thought he was finished and gave him away and our Magnavox looked beautiful until the day he wouldn't work anymore. He was 15 years old we thought he was done. I suppose his tube must have been still beautiful and he wouldn't turn on for some other reason diode, fuse, capacitor etc.

Each time I see people fixing very serious issues with their sets and I can't fixing a simple pwoer supply issue in mine, it makes me sad :( But it's a really good job nonetheless.

After piercing the red green and blue wires with the corresponding weeds does the black wire just go to the chassis on older sets?

@@spatsbear I meant to say the leads there's a red green and blue wire with a piercing clamp then there's a black wire with an alligator clamp on it does that go to the chassis ground or to the picture tube somewhere as well?
