5 Worst T6 C-Store Ships in Star Trek Online

Ойындар

Star Trek Online has a lot of good ships in the C-store, but is also has some not-so-good ships. In this video I'll be going over what are, in my opinion, the five worst Tier 6 ships available in the C-store. I'll only be speaking from a standpoint of the stats of each ship, not their looks.

At least you accept it for what it is and don't irrationally argue your stance simply because you like it. It's okay to like things other's don't. Doesn't mean you are wrong or that they are right. In the end, ships come down to personal preference for whatever reasons YOU decide.

I have to say that I have the Nobel (thank you Cryptic; they donated it to my charitable efforts streaming for the chronically ill/disabled, given its hospital ship theme), and I've been surprised at how much I enjoy using it and how effective it can be. It's really nimble, surprisingly resilient, and does just fine for me with common consoles and the Discovery duo weapons plus advanced phasers. Using its unique saucer separation whenever possible, I can hold busy lanes in Swarm alone, take on the Borg TFOs, etcetera. It does better for me than some more hyped ships. Has a fleet version as well if that's important to you. So, I can't really agree there. All others, for me, are reasonable arguments. However, I don't really think any ship is totally awful. They don't all have to be 5/3 with consoles and traits pushing damage to even more absurd levels to be good ships. As is, fleets of Borg Cubes evaporate in half a second. I remember when just one of those was at least kind of a challenge. You can choose any ship for fun and love of its theme and still do great in it. That's what counts at the end of the day.

A few thoughts on the Nobel: 1. The fleet version lets you stick up to 7 Science consoles on a single ship - I'm not sure any other ship can do that right now. The EPG potential for some builds is huge. 2. It gets the bonus to subsystem power that other MW ships get which is also a nice bonus, especially for builds that want to max out AUX power. 3. They really should make the "gravitic induction platform" count as a "hazard" for science abilities, though. IE - spore infused anomalies, tear open the gates, "by the book", etc... (The same goes for "subspace boom", since Pilot skills are so utterly underwhelming)

ok so I'm gonna disagree on two of these picks. The first is minor disagreement, the second a bit major. The Resolute's engineering boff seating is bad, but it's not *unworkable*. It can be used to create a potent torpboat, which you already acknowledged, but the extra engineering boff seating can be good for tanking, and there are offensive engineering boff abilities too with DoT ticks that can help increase aggro. The console is nice as well, actually glad you mentioned it and gave it a point in its favour. The trait is meh, I use it on a radboat build but I wish it could get a boost. I wish all underpowered traits would tbh. As for what's a worse ship than this, I'd say the Andromeda - virtually identical seating, Andromeda's slightly better in that the ensign is universal, and also virtually identical stats, but with the Resolute having better turn rate, a better console, including a better console *set*, slightly better/more useful trait (I said the trait is meh but I can still use it on a radboat build; I don't see any scenario where the Andromeda's trait is useful *at all*), and this is a very slight advantage, but their Fleet versions are separated by the Fleet Excelsior needing Tier III shipyard and the Fleet Galaxy needing Tier IV. Also, the Fleet Excelsior gets 4 tactical consoles while the Fleet Galaxy only gets 3. So again, it's just better. All in all I'd put the Resolute slightly ahead of the Andromeda accordingly, and nominate the Andromeda to take its place as a worse C-store purchase. But the major disagreement I have is with the Nobel being on this list. I don't mean in a hostile way tho, I just think we're approaching ship building from different perspectives. The console and trait I just want to mention they're not that bad, but you don't really dwell on those things anyway. I mainly take issue with Miracle Worker and Science being bad fits. Yeah, Destabilize Warp Core is the only *EPG* related MW boff ability but it's not the only MW ability that has science applications. There's Overwhelm Power Converters that's good for Drain builds, there's Mixed Armaments Synergy that's great for, well, mixed armaments builds, there's Narrow Sensor Bands which is great for energy weapon builds, which means this is actually really good for any kind of DEWsci build you want to try out, and there's even Exceed Rated Limits so that DEWsci build even gets a firing mode for it. And then every other MW ability is great for *support and healing builds*. -Reroute Shields to Hull Containment gives a potent hull cap and DR boost and hull regen boost party wide -Align Shield Frequencies is slept on, it's a good AoE shield heal and resistance buff -Null Pointer Flood is also slept on, it's a good AoE confuse/placate ability, guaranteed for enemy mines and torpedoes -Torpedo: Nanite Repair Payload is a hilarious heal in the form of a torpedo -Deploy Gravitic Induction Platform is not as good as gravity well, but what it is good at is debuffing enemies that are caught in it for your team to DPS down. And also the trait and console are aimed towards support builds as well. I know you don't think very highly of shields and shield healing, but I would just like to point out that this trait is a significant buff TO shield healing, and most of the shield heals in the game are science abilities. It also includes a support mechanic where shield healing team mates gives them a shield pen buff. All in all I think MW Science ships are a novel concept that's slept on because people build ships for DPS and not for anything else, but I think support is a valid playstyle to explore in this game and underutilised and underappreciated. Now I know what you're going to say, 'nobody plays support builds, support isn't a necessary playstyle either' - well, maybe you weren't gonna say this but I've heard this rebuttal before on other subjects. First let me say that 'nobody plays support builds' is selection bias. If you're in DPS circles then every problem is going to look like a damage parser, much like how to a hammer every problem looks like a nail. But even then there are nanny builds that are aimed at helping other people hit DPS records. 'Support isn't a necessary playstyle' is more debatable I think. I would agree that I don't think the holy trinity is hard set by this game's mechanics or content, like it is in other MMOs. And I do think that the game has a DPS bias as well, so again, that's more of a valid criticism of what I've said. I just want to emphasise there's a lot of ways to build ships in this game, support is one of them and I think we should be pursuing these kinds of alternatives and off-meta playstyles because the meta itself has shifted for as long as I've been playing. Anyway if you've made it this far I thank you for hearing what I have to say. I hope I've at least given some idea as to why something like the Nobel is an interesting purchase even if not a meta one.

I totally agree with you on the noble miracle worker. I think you have some great alternatives to it i would also add the Titan class to that list too. The fact it has so much versatility being able to switch to commander tactical seating or science commander seating also it has a lt commander command/science seat and can use cannons. Then finally it has the opening salvo console which is a really useful and effective console for a lot of builds, it basically fires several volleys of torpedoes that knocks out all targets subsystems in your ships forward arc for around 5 seconds and deals pretty decent kinetic damage and you can stack it with torpedo spread aswell. I use that console a lot on my yorktown oddy class in fact which is great for clearing out ships in TFO's and supporting an attack with friendly ships. Also using it with the Adamant class can be a incredibly lethal combination especially if you make use of the raider perk and use it on a foe's enemy or rear then go full guns blazing, you can do massive damage!

The Mirror Guardian was originally part of a charity sale for "Pop Hero Culture Coalition." I think the intent was to provide a Mirror version of what was then the relatively new Tier 6 level of ships without putting too much into making a brand new ship. For its use at the time, it was well worth the money to support a charity and grab an extra skin. For regular pricing, yes, it's underwhelming.

As someone that is relatively new to STO, it is very hard to understand what makes a good starship and more importantly mixing traits, specializations, consoles. seating and abilities to choose. Experimenting and trying to find your style that works for you can be insanely costly. Sure the game is relatively simple in standard mode and you can do most anything, but unlike most MMOS there really is not endgame content that challenges, tells a story and it seems like everyone is chasing some DPS threshold in a certain "style". I appreciate the videos but I am still pretty lost on the math and ability combinations, why you would choose command over temporal vs intel, etc.

  • @Stu1701

    @Stu1701

Yeah, STO can be rather confusing if you're coming in new at this stage of the game. One of the nice things about the game is it allows enough flexibility pretty much whatever you want on any ship, but certain ships are going to do certain things better than others. I actually go over a lot of this in my previous video, which goes over the strengths and weaknesses of each ship specialization, it might help in figuring some of this out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lneA0ZqIc7a4oNY.html

The players that stay with the game are the ones that really enjoy tinkering with their ships to make them fun and interesting to fly. Equinox is "peppy". The funnest part of Equinox is mobility. Getting to where you want to pop a torp spread or an anomaly, popping out of the way, letting it cook, and setting up your next run. I like them for the bigger maps where you can't just pull everything into one place. So you dance back and forth putting your anomalies and spreads where the enemy clumps up. The most Useless Ship In the Z Store I have seen so far... maybe because it is more a Collectors Ship than really a Ship for using in game, is the NX Class Rebuild, you know from the Series Star Trek with Captain Archer. It is practically a Starter Ship like the ones you play in the Tutorial Levels and is outmatcht with any one you can get with your first Rank Promotion... or to be more precisely with the Contitution class for example. It also isn't upgradeable and in admirality it have same low values like your starter ship, which ever Starfleet start you choose. Sure, with the pack you also get the uniforms and T'Pal as Officer, but Is it really worth the points if your not a Ship collector with an excess place in your drydock?

That's why most of them were moved out of the Zen store and into the dilithium store. The only ships in the Zen store that are under tier 5 are those that are still in bundles. They're not going to change those.

The Fleet Reliant gets one additional Tactical console slot, but the others have far better seating. One Vulnerability Locator is only going to do so much.

The Jupiter is a great carrier one of the top ones. Apart from the carriers which take the king of pets Droneships, I cannot think of any other carrier that can outperform the Jupiter for pet builds. Carriers do not underperform anymore unless the build and/or piloting is poor. Granted some of the traits are expensive but with the right build and right piloting Carriers no longer perform badly.

The jem hadar vanguard carrier I think is better as it can spawn a mobile fleet in but idk, I went away from carriers and swapped to dreadnought cruisers as I find em more fun

My science KDF toon flies science carriers exclusively. I think 'underperform' means 'compared to similar on ship style X'. The usual metric is 'does hangar bay two compare to a secondary deflector?', and a lot of analyses say 'no'. Then again, it's fun to imagine my KDF captain as a matronly sort who stays back and lets her 'children' go off to 'play'. And her XO being punished by being assigned to a carrier instead of a BOP or battlecruiser..

I would argue a Gok'Tad carrier + Lost Souls + hangar bay cooldown FDO doffs + Scramble Fighters is far more effective than the Jupiter. I run both and yeah, I get better performance from my Gok'Tad

I think the first 3 T6 ships I bought/got were the Reliant, the Excelsior, and the Jupiter. I have no excuse for the Mirror Guardian. I don't remember why I thought it was a good idea. The other one... I got the whole pack and I really liked the other two. And it was on sale. And I figured the T6 coupon and ship upgrade tokens and such were worth the cost of the 3rd ship. Although I don't think I've ever claimed a Nobel.

Solid shit list. Well articulated and you make your points based on logic. If I HAD to choose one of these, I would go with the Resolute. I ended up skipping to the fleet version cause I got it for "free" and just opted to have the command seat be full command. It can take a beating, but yeah struggles to dish it out. I went with the fleet version after being overall unimpressed with the 11th anniversary bundle. It's not terrible and at least has the benefit of being an Excelsior. Otherwise, a solid list all around. I half expected the Alita to be up here unless there's a buildout for that I should consider.

Personally, I'd love to see them NUKE the concept of "Carrier" ships in Star Trek Online. Carriers have NEVER been a thing in Star Trek. I believe this was an addition to the game, simply to be able to launch huge amounts of shuttles/fighters (which it did, before they nuked the hangar bays to what they are today). All ships in Star Trek have shuttlebays, so it stands to reason that all STO ships should have at least "1 hangarbay". If a ship has 2 or more physically modelled shuttlebays (like the Sovereign class), they would have more hangarbays.

The Jupiter Carrier is the ugliest Starfleet ship in the game too … kills the whole space barbie thing if you're ugly as a pig.
