Note: I buy wines based on the fact that I like them and that at some point I want to open them and enjoy together with my friends and family. Currently I don’t purchase wines for investing, however most of wines featured in this video are also suitable for long-term ageing.

A great video, thanks, Agnes. I think that the wines one can or will buy depends on where you are located. As prices and availability are greatly affected by the distance of a wines origins. We will finally be making a trip to visit our families in Hungary, Switzerland, and Germany this year. So likely Tokaji Aszu, Bikaver (Bull's Blood), Furmint, Hungarian Bordeaux blends, etc. Probably also some Spatburgunder, as well as Riesling and Grau/Weissburgunder. For Burgundy, it seems that the so-called "lesser" regions of Satenany, Fixin, Mercurey, Givry, Montagny, etc, are where you can find decent QPR without destroying your retirement fund, ha! 😀

Great suggestions! You and I share a similar taste, Loire chenins, Austrian rieslings, reds burgs, pidemontese nebbiolo, now were talking! Shame the last two are getting so pricey! In burgundy ive also found value in Givry and not least Maranges from where ive found really good 1er Crus for less than 30 Euros, some for less than 20 even…

Hi Agnese, I do enjoy a decent Burgundy (as well as Champagne, Claret, Riesling et al) and I have long favored Pommard and Volnay but have ordered a case of Justin Girardin's Santenay having previously had some of his fathers (Vincent) wines which are excellent. As for Champagne, I will be stocking up on Pol Roger, Tarlant and Billecart-Salmon.

A bit late at the table, but I just found your channel. Good suggestions for sure. I'm currently in a Riesling flow... good ones from Nahe, Pfalz and Rheinhessen. For reds I am a sucker for Sangiovese and, sorry, not a great fan of Nebbiolo. I am also focussing on Southern Rhône, Portugal and Northern Spain for affordable good reds and whites. Oh, and I discovered how nice good Soave can be.

Not a problem, we welcome everyone by the said table. 😂😂😂😅 that is okay, if You don’t like Nebbiolo, we have different taste preferences. Though (I would love to think I would never misjudge the wines that way) but Sangiovese is considered a Nebbiolos lateral, and therefore often confused on blind tastings. 😅 Also, Soave can be really, really good and one of my upcoming videos will be on this topic! 🍷 Cheers

Personally I'm going to aim for 2016 brunello riservas, Champagnes from 2008, 2012 and 2013 Blanc De Blancs. 2013 champagnes feel like they're underrated considering how well the chardonnay did in that particular vintage. On that note I'm pretty happy with managing to buy a whole bunch of Fleur de Passion (both regular bottles and magnums) since both the producer Diebolt-Vallois and 2013 has flown under the radar I feel like I've gotten these bottles for a steal. German kabinetts from the Mosel is also a go to for me, especially now with the 2021 vintage hitting the shelves. A vintage that has an extreme acidity to it which makes me feel like it's just TOO MUCH from all the spätlese, auslese etc. But the kabinett's just right. Yum The 2016 Barolo Riservas is another thing I'm saving myself for, or at least my wallet is bracing itself!

I'm stocking up on any 2016 Grand Cru bordeaux left on the shelves before they all go away. Even 2018 is starting to get harder to find already. We had a tasting with Estager, and he said 2022 only produced half the juice yield of a normal vintage. If 2023 has a low yield, bordeaux is about to get even more expensive, and I'd rather buy them while they are still somewhat available.

🫣 To be honest, I hope Bordeaux has reached its highest point and I don’t think we will see massive price increase in near future. Bordeaux is still a massive region producing great volumes! So I really, really hope that the prices will be stable for a while now! 🤞🥹😇

  • @vintageswiss9096

@No Sediment that's super interesting, as bordeaux is still one of the cheapest (and most expensive on the other end of the scale) wines you can get on the shelf here in my State. You can't really buy a bottle of wine under $10 (that is fit for consumption) in the US due to taxes, so all of our bottles start between the $12-$20 range. I can get a non-Cru Cote de Castillion Compostille for $20... whereas a "cheap" California wine would be $25-$40 for a Cab. And once you get to the $40 mark, I'd rather buy a 2016 Cantemerle Grand Cru Classe for that price. I'm also a huge St-Emillion and Pomerol fan, and those leave the market super quickly after they hit the shelves here normally. Inflation hasn't even begun to hit the wine market yet, in my opinion. It's just going to get worse... Hope I'm wrong for both of our sake, tho! Have a great weekend 😀

Arbustum Riesling is also a dying breed. As climate change takes hold it keeps a more traditional profile.

Yes, climate change will affect the way vineyards are planted. 🙌

just buy bulgarian, georgian and portuguese wines if you want the best wines. gold medal winners, d'or winners, the french can't even compete, but they're also cheap. also austrian wine is absolutely horrible, unless you want to drink antifreeze. (look up the scandal) they're still doing it.

I do enjoy Portuguese, Georgian and Bulgarian wines - they can offer great value for money, BUT… You are wrong about Austria. Yes, there was a scandal and because of that Austria has one the strictest regulations for wine and winemaking any country has. They most certainly don’t do it anymore! And it makes no sense to continue to punish them because of what happened in the 80ties. Italians have had several incidents as well and yet no-one talks about it. 🤷‍♀️ Just to point out - IT also don’t do it anymore! 😇

Barolo is rarely drinkable, expensive or not, clearly an overrated wine . Just buy a better priced Barbaresco that is ready to drink.

And why would You say that Barbaresco is better than Barolo? I would say they are quite similar. And definitely almost impossible to distinguish between in a blind tasting.

I like your suggestions. I can't stand you butchering languages. There are apps for proper pronunciations. Please work on it. Thanks

This year I will only buy some sparkling, rosé and white wines. I have too many reds left that I should drink.

Hahahah, somehow for me it is the opposite, except for the Champagne. But a lot of whites and way too much pink wines! Can we trade? 😉
